2019 NISSAN TITAN Complaints and Recall Information
The 2019 NISSAN TITAN has 11 complaints and 13 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report engine failures requiring replacements, issues with the tailgate opening unexpectedly, and problems with acceleration or power loss. Several complaints describe electrical system malfunctions affecting components such as the alternator harness and causing stalling or loss of power.
- Engine failure. Multiple owners report engine failure around 20,000 to 80,000 miles, with at least one needing two engine replacements. Failures include knocking noises, loss of power, and diagnosis of broken internal components.
- Tailgate malfunction. Tailgate fails to open in cold weather but later opens unexpectedly during driving, causing cargo to spill on the road. Repairs under warranty did not resolve the issue for one owner.
- Acceleration and power loss. Vehicle fails to accelerate as intended at various speeds and experiences lagging or fluttering during acceleration; some report entering limp mode without warning lights.
- Fuel system errors. "DEF System Error" displayed with power reduction warnings linked to fuel pump system malfunctions; some cases include loss of motive power and metal debris in the fuel system.
- Transmission problems. Delays or failures in shifting into reverse reported alongside slipping or loss of power symptoms.
- Oil leaks and engine smoke. Sudden oil leaks under the vehicle and smoke from the exhaust reported, accompanied by vibration and power loss during highway driving.
- Electrical issues. Defective alternator harness causes engine stalls, air conditioner failures, battery drainage, and intermittent operation of radio and backup camera, often with a burnt smell from the engine area.
- Excessive repair costs. Repair quotes for engine or transmission replacements approach or exceed the original purchase price of the vehicle.
- Service frustration. Some owners were denied warranty coverage despite referencing technical service bulletins related to the defects.
The 2019 Nissan Titan has 13 recalls covering various systems including electrical wiring, tires, exterior lighting, and back-up camera functionality. These recalls address safety risks such as electrical shorts, tire failures, and rear visibility deficiencies.
- Back-up camera system. NHTSA Recall 19V654000 affected over 1.2 million vehicles including the 2019 Titan. The camera display can be adjusted to hide the rear view image, violating federal safety standards and increasing crash risk. Dealers update camera software free of charge.
- Tires sidewall defects. NHTSA Recall 21V169000 involved about 36,000 vehicles. Over cured Continental tires may develop sidewall breaks causing sudden air loss or belt separation, potentially causing loss of control. Dealers inspect and replace tires as needed at no cost.
- Headlight aiming marks. NHTSA Recall 20V556000 covered 82 Titans with LED headlights marked incorrectly. Improper aiming can reduce road illumination and increase crash risk. Dealers inspect and replace headlight assemblies for free.
- Alternator harness wiring. NHTSA Recall 19V495000 affected over 91,000 vehicles. Improperly routed or damaged alternator harnesses may cause electrical shorts, engine stalls, or fires. Dealers inspect and repair or replace the harness without charge.
Owners facing repeated engine failures, persistent powertrain or electrical problems, or unresolved recall issues with the 2019 Nissan Titan may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney can help evaluate possible claims and available remedies.

TIRES
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Altima and 2018-2021 Titan vehicles equipped with Continental tires. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that one or more tires were cured for too long during tire production.
Risk: Over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Alternator harness is defective in my 2019 Nissan Titan. My truck has stalled on me twice while running and my air conditioner compressor has stopped working and radio is not working properly, and it is draining my battery, there is a delay when starting my vehicle as if it does not have enough power. I replaced the air conditioner compressor and vehicle battery. After replacing the air conditioner compressor it stopped working after two weeks. I can hear the air conditioner struggling when it is turn on, my radio and back up camera stop working all of sudden as if it is not getting enough power, then it will start working again. Radio turns on and off by itself. My vehicle omits a burnt smell from the engine. A research of the issues with my vehicle I located a recall with similar issues (19V495000) that affected 2017-2019 Nissan Titans.

Vehicle has a fluttering or lagging feel/sound when accelerating, often taking longer to accelerate than it should. When merging on to a highway, this has become a danger to myself and others. This problem has been confirmed by Nissan in tens of thousands of Nissan Titans. More recently, my truck (only 47,000 miles) shifts into reverse but will not actually go into reverse, which is pointing to a transmission problem.

2019 Nissan Titan XD Diesel 153,700 miles. Driving 70-75mph on Texas highway and felt a vibration when I pressed on the gas pedal. Started moving over to exit due to power loss when a slight puff of smoke came out. I pulled over in a safe area and shut the truck off. There were NO Warning lights on the cluster. When I stepped out a small puddle of oil had already started to form under the truck. Open the hood and the passenger side engine compartment was covered in oil. I noticed oil formed on the license plate and was dripping out of the exhaust pipe. Oil had dripped off the under carriage from front to back, large amount formed under the vehicle after sitting for 1hr. We towed the vehicle to the local Nissan dealer and the result was a broken crank and possible transmission failure. I have reach out to Nissan corp to file a complaint as well. This vehicle has never experienced any significant issues, Nissan had no history prior to my reporting today. I have owned the vehicle since 2019 when I purchased it with 6k miles on it. Nissan has quoted me $32,660.63 for repairs (engine/Trans replacement), this is almost what I purchased the vehicle for in 2019.

In cold weather, generally below freezing, the tailgate of the 2019 Titan will not open. When attempting to open the tailgate, the latch is lifted up, but the tailgate will not open. However, once the temperature rises to high 20's, low 30'sF, the tailgate will open on its own. I believe lifting the tailgate latch puts this sequence into motion. In the first incident, I tried to open the tailgate in cold weather, it would not open. Then, while traveling down a highway, the tailgate opened by itself resulting in several large toolboxes spilling out of the bed and onto the highway. I was not aware of this until I got to my office. The truck was taken to a Nissan dealer who replaced the electrical and mechanical tailgate locking mechanisms (under warranty) in January 2024. Now, in January 2025, with the recent cold spell in the northeast, the tailgate again would not open. And as before, later the tailgate fell open on its own (thankfully there was noting in the bed of the truck). I took the truck to the same Nissan dealership and explained that tailgate problem was not fixed. The technician looked on her computer and, I am quoting, said to me "this is a common problem". I asked if there is a safety recall on this issue and the tech told me "no". Nissan stated I would have to pay for the fix this time as it was over a year since the last time they [failed] to fixed the tailgate . This is a serious safety concern in that the tailgate can open unexpectedly while the vehicle is moving allowing the cargo to spill out into moving traffic. Please issue a safety recall immediately. Nissan knows this is a problem and will not act on it! I stopped at the local police department and explained what happen. I went to the police to see if anyone picked up any of my tools I lost and gave them to the police. Not a single tool was turned in. I lost several hundred $$ of tools due to the tailgate opening. Thankfully, I don't believe it caused any one to damage their vehicle.
