2005 NISSAN SENTRA Complaints and Recall Information

The 2005 NISSAN SENTRA has 0 complaints and 26 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to air bag inflator defects, specifically the risk of inflators rupturing or exploding upon deployment. These defects pose a serious safety hazard to vehicle occupants.

There are 26 recalls affecting multiple systems, primarily focusing on air bag inflators and their associated safety risks. The recalls address inflator ruptures caused by propellant degradation leading to potential metal fragment injuries during air bag deployment.

Recalls
  • Passenger Air Bag Inflator. Recall 15V287000 affects 1,090,569 vehicles including certain 2002-2006 Sentra models. The passenger side frontal air bag inflator may rupture due to excessive internal pressure during deployment. This can send metal fragments into the vehicle cabin causing serious injury or death. Nissan will replace the inflator free of charge beginning June 15, 2015.
  • Air Bag Service Parts Inflator. Recall 22E066000 covers 375 vehicles and involves replacement inflators installed during theft or collision repairs. These inflators may explode after exposure to high humidity and temperature cycling, risking serious injury or death from metal fragments. Dealers will inspect and replace defective inflators free of charge with owner notifications starting September 14, 2022.
  • Passenger Air Bag Inflator Re-inspection. Recall 20V747000 affects 3,930 vehicles where previously inspected Takata inflators may not have been replaced. Continued use risks inflator explosion with sharp metal fragments hitting occupants during crashes. Owners are warned not to drive their vehicles until repairs are complete. Dealers will re-inspect and replace the inflator as needed for free. The recall started January 22, 2021.
  • Non-Desiccated Interim Inflators. Recall 20V008000 involves 307,962 vehicles with interim air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant that degrade over time. The inflators can rupture, sending metal fragments into the cabin and causing injuries or death. Nissan will replace these inflators with safer desiccated alternatives at no cost beginning February 12, 2020.

Owners with the 2005 Nissan Sentra facing repeated air bag inflator repairs or unresolved recall issues may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws. Multiple recalls addressing critical safety components underscore the importance of timely corrective action through manufacturer and dealer programs.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain air bag inflator replacement service parts that may have been installed as part of a theft or collision repair. The parts include certain passenger-side air bag inflators designed to fit Infiniti 2002-2003 QX4, 2006-2010 M35 and M45; Nissan 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, and both driver and passenger-side inflators designed to fit 2007-2012 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback vehicles. Please see Nissan's recall report for the specific part numbers. These replacement inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

AIR BAGS

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2002-2006 Sentra vehicles whose passenger air bags were previously inspected and may have been released without replacing the Takata air bag inflator. In the event of a crash, Takata frontal passenger air bag inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback, 2001-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2002-2003 Inifiniti QX4, 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 and 2006-2010 M35 and M45 vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
