2004 NISSAN SENTRA Complaints and Recall Information

The 2004 NISSAN SENTRA has 1 complaint and 26 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to airbag replacement and recall repair delays. One complaint details prolonged delays and poor communication from Nissan regarding mobile airbag repair services, which remain unresolved.

Common Issues

  • Airbag replacement delays. Owner reports multiple recall notices over two years about passenger airbag replacement with ongoing delays and refusal of promised mobile repair service.
  • Customer service concerns. Interaction with Nissan agents included hostile and abusive behavior when repair arrangements failed to materialize as expected.

The 2004 Sentra is subject to 26 recalls that primarily address airbag inflator defects. The recalls concern various passenger and driver side airbag inflator issues due to propellant degradation or assembly problems, posing risks of inflator rupture and metal fragments during deployment. These recalls affect safety systems and often involve free replacement of defective components by dealers.

Recalls

  • Passenger airbag inflator rupture risk (15V287000). Affects over 1 million vehicles including 2004 Sentra. Passenger airbag inflators may rupture upon deployment causing metal fragments to strike occupants, risking serious injury or death. Dealers replace inflators free starting June 15, 2015.
  • Passenger and driver airbag inflator explosion risk (22E066000). Recalls 375 vehicles for defective replacement inflators installed during theft or collision repairs. Propellant degradation from environmental exposure can cause inflators to explode, causing injury or death. Dealers will inspect and replace inflators free. Owner letters mailed starting September 14, 2022.
  • Passenger airbag inflator failure advisory (20V747000). Covers 3,930 2002-2006 Sentras that may have received insufficient repairs. Due to propellant degradation, inflators may explode. Owners are advised not to drive vehicles until repair. Dealers will re-inspect and replace inflators free. Recall began January 22, 2021.
  • Interim remedy airbag inflator defects (20V008000). Applies to 307,962 vehicles including the 2004 Sentra. Non-desiccated passenger airbag inflators with unstable propellants may explode, sending metal fragments into occupants. Nissan notifies owners and replaces inflators with desiccated versions free. Repairs started February 12, 2020.

Owners with repeated repairs or unresolved airbag recall issues should review their rights under applicable state lemon laws. Legal advice may help determine eligibility for relief when defects persist despite recalls and manufacturer attempts at repair.

AIR BAGS

I have been getting recall notices for over 2 years on my 2004 Sentra concerning airbag replacement. I called the number on the recall mailing and was told on multiple occasions that the car was dangerous to operate. I am a [XXX] and was assured that the Nissan recall team offered a mobile repair service and that my repair was in the range of mobile repair service technicians and that a repair tech could be sent to my location. I agreed to the time line that they suggested. I just requested the exact time and date of the repair work. Nissan agree to the repair service arrangements and I thought that I would have the service work done at my location. As time passed the Nissan agent called multiple times assuring me that when a repair unit was available that it would be dispatched to my location to preform the required service. After 2 full years of delays and failed attempts, I am suddenly told that no mobile service repairs are possible in my location. When I asked why I was told the mobile service could be preformed at my location I was subjected to the agent speaking abusive and hostile attitude. The issue has not been resolved as of this date. So I do want to file a compliant and also make the company aware of this situation. Thank for the opportunity to present my concerns.
