2012 NISSAN ROGUE Complaints and Recall Information

The 2012 NISSAN ROGUE has 3 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners report power loss while driving at various speeds, abnormal engine noises, and check engine warning lights. There are also reports of the engine seizing and the vehicle shaking with rattling noises.

Common Issues

  • Transmission problems. Vehicle loses power when slowing from high speeds. Dealership adjusted transmission fluid but power issues resumed with uncertain repair options.
  • Engine shaking and rattling. Vehicle shakes accompanied by unusual engine noises and illumination of the check engine light.
  • Error codes related to engine sensors. Diagnostic trouble codes P0420, P0113, P0101, and P0102 were retrieved. Attempts to replace intake air temperature sensor and mass air flow sensors failed to resolve the issue.
  • Engine seizure. Engine seized while driving without any warning lights before engine failure, followed by black smoke from under the hood.
  • Fuel consumption increase. Owners report excessive gasoline consumption alongside worsening engine condition and illuminated TPMS and check engine lights.

Two recalls exist for the 2012 Nissan Rogue involving tire pressure monitoring systems and electrical system issues. These recalls affect safety-critical components.

Recalls

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System. NHTSA recall 12V068000 affects 2,983 vehicles manufactured between November 23, 2011 and January 11, 2012. The TPMS was not activated during assembly, preventing warning of underinflated tires. Underinflated tires risk blowouts and crashes. Dealers were instructed to activate the TPMS. No Do Not Drive advisory applied.
  • Electrical System Short Circuit. NHTSA recall 15V032000 covers 468,815 vehicles from model years 2008-2013. Snow, water, and salt seepage may cause electrical shorts in the driver side wire harness connector, increasing fire risk. Dealers must inspect and replace connectors with waterproof seals free of charge. No Do Not Drive advisory applied.

Owners facing repeated power losses or engine failures, ongoing safety defects, or unresolved recall repairs might have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consultation with a consumer protection attorney could clarify options.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured March 7, 2007, to November 26, 2013, and 2014 Nissan Rogue Select vehicles manufactured September 23, 2013, to July 2, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience an electrical short in the harness connector due to a mixture of snow/water and salt seeping through the carpet on the driver side floor near the harness connector.

TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 MURANO AND ROGUE VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM NOVEMBER 23, 2011 THROUGH JANUARY 11, 2012. DURING ASSEMBLY, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) WAS NOT ACTIVATED. THUS, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 138,”TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM.”

Risk: A NON-ACTIVE TPMS CANNOT WARN A DRIVER THAT A TIRE IS UNDERINFLATED. UNDERINFLATED TIRES CAN RESULT IN TIRE OVERLOADING AND OVERHEATING, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A BLOWOUT AND POSSIBLE CRASH.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

1/2024 car loses power going from 70mph to about 40mph - dealership adjusted transmission fluid, 12/2024 started having power issues again dropping from 40mph to 20mph. Dealership said they couldn't do anything until it starts happening more frequently. So I'm suppose to just drive it with a potential crash that could hurt or kill someone. Not acceptable, Nissan needs to recall 2012 Rogues due to transmission issues before someone gets killed.
