2015 NISSAN MURANO Complaints and Recall Information
The 2015 NISSAN MURANO has 15 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the vehicle losing power, stalling, shuddering during acceleration, and transmission problems. Complaints also include sudden loss of brakes and steering, electrical warning lights activating, and premature wear of suspension components.
Common Issues- Power loss and stalling. Vehicles stall or lose motive power suddenly while driving, sometimes without warning lights, requiring towing and resulting in unsafe conditions.
- Transmission shudder and slipping. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) shudders, slips, and causes hesitation especially during low-speed acceleration or hill climbs, impairing drivability and safety in wet or snowy conditions.
- Transmission fluid contamination. Complaints include burnt transmission fluid with foul odor and metal shavings found in the transmission pan, indicating internal damage and transmission failure.
- Alternator failure and electrical issues. Multiple reports of alternator failure leading to vehicle stalling and dashboard warning lights including ABS, air bag, and seat belt warnings remaining on.
- ABS warning lights and limp mode activation. ABS warning lights illuminate on startup followed by the vehicle entering limp mode and shutting down, reducing vehicle performance.
- Sudden loss of brakes and steering. A report details a snap sound followed by loss of brakes and steering control, resulting in a crash into a guard rail.
- Unresolved diagnostics and repairs. Vehicles towed multiple times with no definitive cause found during dealer or independent inspections leading to repeated failures and frustration.
- Front suspension wear. Premature wear of front subframe bushings and front lower control arm bushings causing potential safety concerns despite relatively low mileage.
- Lurching and hesitation. Sudden jerking or lurching motions occur during low-speed driving or from a stop, affecting smooth acceleration.
- Battery cable replacement confusion. Service attempts include replacing battery cables without resolving power loss and repeated charges despite persistent alternator issues.
The model has five recalls mainly addressing the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and air bag occupant classification systems. These recalls affect brake control and air bag deployment systems which are critical to vehicle safety.
Recalls- ABS actuator contamination. (NHTSA 15V364000) Affects 9,614 vehicles manufactured December 2014 to March 2015. Contaminated ABS solenoid valves may impair valve operation, risking stability loss during ABS activation. Dealers will inspect and replace the ABS actuator if needed free of charge.
- ABS actuator pump fluid leak. (NHTSA 19V807000) Involves 391,479 vehicles from 2015 to 2019. Brake fluid leaking onto the ABS actuator circuit board may cause electrical shorts and fire risk. Owners advised to park outdoors if ABS light stays on over 10 seconds. Dealers will replace the ABS actuator free of charge when parts are available.
- ABS actuator fluid leak with Intelligent Cruise Control. (NHTSA 16V636000) Covers 120,329 vehicles including 2015-2017 Murano models. Fluid leaks on the ABS circuit board increase fire risk. Dealers will inspect and replace the actuator as needed at no charge. Parking outdoors is advised when the ABS warning light remains illuminated.
- ABS actuator pump fluid leak expansion. (NHTSA 18V601000) Affects 215,124 vehicles from 2015-2017. Similar defect with brake fluid potentially causing electrical shorts and fire. Dealers inspect serial numbers and replace faulty ABS actuators free of charge. Parking outdoors is recommended if the ABS warning light remains on for more than 10 seconds after startup.
- Occupant classification system malfunction. (NHTSA 16V244000) Impacts over 3.2 million vehicles including 2015-2016 Muranos. The front passenger classification system may incorrectly disable the air bag, increasing injury risk in a crash. Dealers will reprogram or replace relevant control units free of charge. Interim notices sent with second notices pending.
Owners of 2015 NISSAN MURANO vehicles dealing with repeated power loss, transmission failures, or unresolved recalls involving critical safety systems should consider consulting resources related to their state’s lemon law for possible rights and remedies.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima, and 2017-2019 Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and unrepaired, or inspected and determined to not need a repair, under recall number 18V-601. In addition, this recall expands the previous population. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) actuator pumps may allow brake fluid to leak onto an internal circuit board.
Risk: A brake fluid leak on the circuit board may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
Risk: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2015 Murano vehicles manufactured December 4, 2014, to March 17, 2015. These vehicles are equipped with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) actuators which may have contamination in the solenoid valves, potentially affecting the valves' ability to completely close and allow a build up of hydraulic brake pressure, or fully open and allow the hydraulic brake pressure to completely drop.
Risk: Under some driving conditions, when the ABS is activated, the malfunctioning ABS actuator could cause a loss of vehicle stability, increasing the risk of a crash.

My vehicle stop on the highway. Jut cut off out of nowhere. And has been cutting off and losing power. I replaced the battery which I thought was the problem. Then I thought it was the alternator so I took it to nissan to have a diagnostic and they said it was not and that no codes came up that a positive battery cable had to be replaced. I was charged 342 for a diagnostic and to change a cable. They told me to pick up my vehicle and got home it was still cutting off. I took it to O'Reilly they said it was the alternator. Nissan just took my money. Also they printed out a list of other problems that were not addressed or need be repair on this vehicle that i purchased at 118,000 miles. I dont even drive this vehicle to have all these part to have yo be replaced. The powers steering is leaking and the air bag and seat belt light appears to stay on.
