2012 NISSAN MURANO Complaints and Recall Information

The 2012 NISSAN MURANO has 5 complaints and 1 recall filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the rear subframe rusting through due to road salt which impacts vehicle safety. Other complaints involve the loss of power related to the installation of the Intoxalock safety device and problems with acceleration from a stop, sometimes accompanied by battery drain.

Common Issues
  • Rear subframe rust. The rear subframe rusts through from road salt exposure, making the vehicle unsafe to drive.
  • Power loss with Intoxalock. The Intoxalock safety device causes complete power loss while driving and drains the battery, leading to safety risks without warning signs.
  • Acceleration failure. The vehicle does not move when accelerating from a stop, requiring the gas pedal to be fully depressed to slowly advance or it stalls.
  • Battery drainage. There are reports of battery drain associated with the power loss and stalling issues.

There is one recall related to a tire pressure monitoring system defect. The recall addresses a safety defect affecting vehicles in dealer inventory with an inactive TPMS.

Recalls
  • Tire pressure monitoring system. (NHTSA Recall 12V068000) Affected 2983 vehicles manufactured from November 23, 2011 through January 11, 2012, including 2012 Muranos. The TPMS was not activated during assembly, violating federal safety standards. Without an active TPMS, drivers receive no warning of underinflated tires, increasing the risk of blowouts and crashes. Dealers must activate the TPMS before sale. There is no "Do Not Drive" or "Park Outside" advisory.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, safety-related power failures, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney about ongoing problems could be advisable.

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 MURANO AND ROGUE VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM NOVEMBER 23, 2011 THROUGH JANUARY 11, 2012. DURING ASSEMBLY, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) WAS NOT ACTIVATED. THUS, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 138,”TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM.”
