I purchased by 2019 Nissan leaf brand new from a Nissan dealership. My electric vehicle is our only vehicle and has been effectively disabled for out of town driving by a safety recall for the traction battery for nearly a year. Nissan continues to be unable to repair or resolve this safety recall and has offered no alternatives other than telling me not to fast charge the vehicle for fear of it catching fire. I have spent countless hours talking to a regional specialist and then being escalated to an executive specialist both of which offer no resolution. I want my vehicle repaired and returned to the originally purchased function or repurchased by Nissan. With the multiple delays in repairing this safety recall up to a year now I have no faith in Nissan to reach any satisfactory repair. I no longer want to own or drive this vehicle and the fault lays entirely with Nissan for their handling of this concern. I fear for my families safety when driving or using this vehicle because of the stated risk of electric battery fire. Nissan continues to have failed to offer any repair or inspection of the battery to determine our risk of a vehicle battery fire.

I am currently using a 2019 NISSAN LEAF electric vehicle and the vehicle is still under NISSAN's 7-year warranty. In September 2024, Nissan sent me a notice advising me to temporarily stop fast charging the vehicle to avoid overheating the battery and possibly exploding and wait for them to fix the vehicle charger. Two months later, Nissan continued to send me a new notice and continued to schedule me until spring 2025. I still trusted and waited for them, in June 25 Nissan sent me a third notice to wait until the third quarter of this 25. Up to now, more than 9 months have passed but they still do not have spare parts to replace my vehicle and I still do not know if Nissan will have spare parts for my vehicle by the end of the third quarter of this 25? in the past 9 months, i have had to spend a lot of time every time i need to charge my car. just because i don't have my own house so i have to take my car to the charging station and every time i charge i have to wait for about 5 hours. i don't understand what nissan wants now? ‚ó¶

I took my car in for a few recalls and was informed that the Manufacturer Recall Number R24B2/NHTSA Recall Number 24V-700 fix was not available. The recall has been in effect for 1 year now and there is still no remedy. This is affecting the ability to use the car to its fullest due to the safety risk associated with Level 3 quick charging. If I was to quick charge the car it could result in damage to the battery and even fire. I cannot sell the car either due to the recall. Please have Nissan make this right. They need to fix the issue or initiate a buyback.

This is a follow-up to my last complaint because I never received a response. A year ago, Nissan issued a safety recall for some 2019 and 2020 Nissan Leafs that they still don't have a remedy for (Manufacturer Recall # R24B2; NHTSA Recall # 24V-700). This recall instructs affected owners not to DC-fast charge our vehicles, which means we can't DRIVE our vehicles in many applications. Nissan is supposedly always "finalizing" this remedy, and the remedy is supposedly always "coming soon." Then, when the promised release date comes and goes, Nissan just announces a new future release-date for their still non-existent remedy. This has been happening for a year. Owners are supposed to just not use our vehicles the way they were advertised. We're supposed to just not drive our vehicles on trips requiring a DC-fast charge, even though the ability to DC-fast charge is one of the reasons we bought this car. How is this legal? Is the NHTSA planning to do anything to make Nissan issue a remedy for this safety recall?

My 2019 Nissan Leaf SV is under recall R24B2 for battery overheating risk during DC fast charging. Nissan has instructed owners not to use Level 3 fast charging until a remedy is available, but no fix has been provided for almost one year with continued delay in repair promise dates. Yesterday, I was unable to use a fast charger as needed, which forced me to wait several hours at a slower Level 2 charging station. This delay made it impossible to drive my Leaf for a planned Labor Day weekend trip to Amelia Island. Instead, we had to use my daughter’s car, since the Leaf could not meet our travel needs without fast charging. This ongoing situation shows significant loss of use and hardship. Fast charging is an essential function of an electric vehicle, and without it the car cannot perform as originally marketed. The prolonged lack of remedy (nearly a year since the recall was issued) is unacceptable and has left my vehicle restricted and unreliable. I request NHTSA take action to ensure Nissan provides a timely remedy or interim solution for affected Leaf owners. Attached is letter also sent to Nissan.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I purchased a 2019 Nissan LEAF in January 2024 and registered it with the DMV. Nissan never notified me of Recall R24B2, despite federal requirements that current registered owners be contacted. Because I was not notified, I used Level 3 quick charging more than 50 times before learning of the recall. The recall states that using fast charging can pose a fire hazard and risk of injury or death. Nissan’s failure to notify me placed me, my children, my passengers, and vehicles parked near me at charging stations in danger. Nissan has admitted that they never notified me, and I have written confirmation from them and from NHTSA that manufacturers are required to notify all registered owners. Nissan has still not provided a concrete remedy or addressed compensation for the danger and hardship caused. This is not just a defect — it is negligence and a serious consumer safety failure. I request that NHTSA investigate Nissan’s failure to notify owners and require Nissan to provide both a timely remedy and financial compensation.

Inability to use an advertised feature. They advertised 50Kwh CHAdeMO charging to me when I bought the car and now, they're asking me to not use it, I wouldn't accept this with anything else. Smaller dealers won't buy a car under active recall because many times they cannot sell a car under an active recall, which means I'm forced to go to a larger (probably Nissan) dealer only? Additionally, if I were to try to sell as a private party I wouldn't feel right selling a car under active recall and/or not disclosing there's an active recall which may affect my ability to sell or get the best price for it, especially when the recall is as serious as a FIRE RISK when using an advertised and integral feature. I am unable to recharge at home because I do not have an outlet that meets the l2 requirements. Additionally, I live in an apartment so I am unable to charge. This has caused me a mass inconvenience when trying to go to family events and other events that require long distance driving because the L2charger isn't sufficient enough for me to make to it on time to these events

I own a 2019 Nissan Leaf that is subject to safety recall # RS4B2. Outrageously, while this safety recall was issued almost a year ago, Nissan has to date still not offered an actual remedy. Instead, for the last year, Nissan's "remedy" has been to simply instruct Leaf owners to indefinitely refrain from DC fast-charging our vehicles. This instruction is not only logistically absurd - akin to telling the owners of gas vehicles that they can't visit gas stations for an entire year - but also financially damaging: it has rendered our vehicles totally unusable for many driving applications for almost a year. As such, Nissan's instruction to its customers to indefinitely refrain from using their vehicles the way they were marketed and sold is not merely an inconvenience but rises to the level of consumer fraud. I have asked Nissan to provide just one of the following, all of which they have refused: 1. a loaner Nissan Leaf capable of safely DC fast charging 2. an offer to repurchase my Nissan Leaf 3. a statement in writing from Nissan USA that while waiting for Nissan's still non-existent remedy to its safety recall, I may continue to DC fast-charge my Nissan Leaf without voiding the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. I would be willing to accept any one of these three solutions at Nissan USA's choosing. What I am not willing to accept is being told that, until Nissan gets around to releasing a remedy to a safety recall that it issued almost a year ago, I may not use the car that I purchased according to its specifications. What can NHTSA do to force Nissan to resolve this issue?

For details please see: Manufacturer Recall Number R24B2 NHTSA Recall Number 24V-700 This battery issue has been known by the company but not yet addressed, despite them saying there would be a solution by March 2025. Quick charging remains not recommended which is a significant issue when using the vehicle on longer drives or for when more battery-intensive alternate routes are necessary. The ability to quick-charge a battery electric vehicle without worry of overheating or fire is a very low baseline for standard usage, and the company should fix the issue or offer replacement batteries as soon as possible.

My 2019 Nissan Leaf has been under recall since September 2024 (Recall #24V700000) due to being a fire hazard when using Level 3 chargers, also known as fast charging. I understand that issues can take time and specialized parts to resolve a recall. However, it is now 10 months later and Nissan still has no remedy to offer for this issue, leaving me unable to safely utilize this key feature. As a result of this delay, I have not been able to drive my vehicle on longer trips and instead make alternate arrangements like renting a vehicle at my own expense. This is also limiting my ability to sell or trade in the vehicle, which ultimately has diminished its value. While I have not suffered direct physical harm from Nissan's delay in resolving this recall, it has negatively impacted the quality and long-term value of the product.

The open recall 24V-700 still has no remedy from the manufacturer; they keep pushing it back. It's been over 9 months since it was originally issued, and longer since they told me to stop using level 3 charging. A lack of level 3 charging means I cannot feasibly use this vehicle for longer trips. You state "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-888-275-9171 or file an online complaint with NHTSA." 2019 Nissan Leaf Battery Recall: 1 year out from recall announcement, still no repair is available, and it is unsafe to use fast charging for risk of fire. Nissan advertised repairs for recall coming in late 2024, then March 2025. It is now July 2025, and still no repair, and Nissan Corporate will not provide a financial remedy. Have spoken with Consumer Affairs, and they claim no obligation. Unable to use the car to travel longer distances (>45min away from home) because fast charging is unsafe. Consumer Affairs gave me run around. Called back 24 hours after initially promised, at 4 minutes before end of work day on a Friday. Once I finally spoke with the Consumer Affairs rep the next Tuesday, they claimed no obligation under my state's laws to remedy the issue. They refused to email the denial letter that contained this response to the issue and stated that I would have to wait for a physical copy to be sent in the mail 4-8 weeks later. I have gone to 2 Nissan dealerships in the last 2 weeks to attempt to get this recall repaired, and they all report the same issue. It is not possible to repair the battery because Nissan has not provided a solution. 1 year later, this "solution" is still in development. I do not have more time to wait. Moreover, I should be covered by the battery warranty up to 100k miles (I have 51k miles on car) and it does not expire until March 2027.

I am writing to make a formal complaint on how long this recall is taking for my vehicle. It’s been almost a year and no updates. I tried to get an appraisal for my vehicle but was turned away because the dealerships are unable to purchase my vehicle until the recall is resolved. I think its dangerous and very careless to know about this fire hazard while using the ChaDeMao fast charger but assume people will not need to use it over the course of the year. I have used the fast charger against the recall issue only in emergency situations, with caution, however, I don’t want to feel afraid to use it. Plus I am noticing a lot of fast chargers are taking this type of plug out of many chargers in my area. Is there an update with what Nissan will do for this recall? Will they switch over to the new standard fast charger adapter? I hope to find some answers when submitting this complaint.

Nissan has stated since September 2024, that they’re working on a repair for my 2019 Nissan Leaf. The issue is that using a fast charge system could cause the battery to catch fire. Nissan states to not use these types of chargers. I just received my third or fourth recall notice from them stating that they are working on it and they keep pushing the date back. Estimated date now is third quarter of 2025. This issue severely limits how I can use my vehicle, which is used primarily to commute to work. My commute is 70 miles and I cannot make it back and forth on a full charge so I frequently need to fast charge the vehicle.

Recall R24B2 / NHTSA 24V-700 affects my 2019 Nissan LEAF. I received the initial notice in Oct 2024, warning me not to use DC fast charging due to fire risk. Because of the unresolved battery problem for which a fix was promised by March 2025 the range of my vehicle is limited to the round trip distance from my house. While driving, the car will fluctuate its battery percentage, similar to the report in NHTSA Recall 24V-700. While driving down the highway with 67%, it suddenly swung down to 10% displaying a "Battery charge is low Charge now" warning on the dash. My concern is that if I'd have had less charge after the swing in battery percentage, the car could have turned on it's "turtle mode" at highway speed on open freeway. My local dealer has confirmed that this is a similar concern to the one outlined in Nissan's recall r24b2 (NHTSA 24V-700), and should be resolved with that fix. I feel that this warrants updating the recall to include fluctuations occurring at speed as well. There are no warnings during the percentage swings while driving, only when it swung below the normal threshold for the "Battery charge is low. Charge now." warning did anything come up.
