STRUCTURE:BODY

Hinge failure on bay door. It is a common problem and has failed 3 times so far. The "C" clamp on the hing fails which causes the bolt to fall out and door to fall off. Newmar employees have stated that this is a poor design. Door falls off and the motorhome cannot be driven until fixed. It opens while driving going down the road, which could cause a serious accident. We are paying for yet another mobile rv repair to come out today and fix if possible.

2018 NEWMAR NEW AIRE

VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR

During recent operation of the vehicle, the passenger-side front vent window failed to remain secure due to an apparent adhesive failure. The latch mechanism detached from the glass or frame, causing the window to become loose and unable to latch properly. This defect created a risk of the window fully detaching while driving, which could have led to a hazardous situation for vehicle occupants or other road users. No injuries or accidents occurred, but the issue significantly compromises vehicle safety. I am aware of NHTSA Recall 21V-571, issued in 2021, which addresses adhesive failure in Hehr 6400 series vent windows on 2019-2021 Newmar New Aire models, produced between October 1, 2018, and October 21, 2021. The symptoms observed in my 2018 model closely match those described in the recall, indicating that the same defect may affect earlier model years not currently included. To assist NHTSA’s investigation, I am prepared to provide additional documentation, such as photographs of the defective window, or facilitate an inspection of the vehicle if required. I respectfully request that NHTSA evaluate this complaint, collect reports from other 2018 Newmar New Aire owners who may have encountered similar issues, and expand Recall 21V-571 to cover the 2018 model year to mitigate potential safety risks. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please contact me at the provided contact information for any further details or clarification.

2020 NEWMAR NEW AIRE

ID: 2107817

VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR

On June15, 2025, the passenger’s side vent window glass partially delaminated from the actuator assembly while driving, damaging the actuator and window glass. The front passenger window has never sealed properly since we purchased the RV new. Newmar was notified of this in August 2021, when the coach was returned to Nappanee, IN for warranty repairs. After the window failure, I discovered that Lippert/Newmar issued an NHTSA Recall for these windows on September 8, 2021. The recall notes the issue as being: “the adhesive that bonds the vented portion of the window may fail. Adhesive failure may cause the vent portion of the window to detach…”. We did not receive this recall notice from Newmar. This window, part number 757205, is covered under Lippert HEHR6400 Series Window Vent Recall, NHTSA recall number: 21E047. I contacted Lippert immediately following the window failure on June 16, 2025. After being provided photographic documentation of the window failure, as well as confirmation of the defective part number, Lippert issued case number: 5952303. On June 18, 2025, Lippert instructed me to contact the OEM (Newmar) to arrange inspection and repair of the recalled window with an authorized dealer. On June 18, 2025, I contacted Newmar, who denied responsibility for the recall defect claiming the window had been inspected in August of 2021. When I informed Newmar that I would be filing a complaint with the NHTSA, I was issued a Newmar case number: 00989760. Since June 18, 2025, I have contacted every authorized Newmar Dealer within a 250 mile radius, providing them with: the recall information, Lippert and Newmar case numbers, and the part number for the recalled defective window. To date, no dealership has responded or even contacted Newmar for authorization. On July 9, 2025 I again attempted to contact Newmar to progress the matter and have yet to receive any form of reply. My experience with Newmar is that this recalcitrance is the norm.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

This system has no driver controls. While we ideally would like to maintain a huge space between the vehicle in front of us, in real world driving heavy traffic precludes us from being able to do so. When traffic is heavy and cars and trucks are pulling in around and in front of you this system starts beeping loudly and at a increasing rate. You are in a stressful situation with vehicles all around you which is made worse by a never ending loud beeping that becomes a major distraction. The system also changes your display but does not return it to your original setting which is another distraction as you reprogram your display while driving.
