2023 MOTIV EPIC4 E450 BEV SCHOOL BUS Complaints and Recall Information

The 2023 MOTIV EPIC4 E450 BEV SCHOOL BUS has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to power loss and electrical system malfunctions based on recall data.

There are five recalls impacting various electrical and propulsion systems on these vehicles. The recalls concern throttle position sensors, wiring, traction motor controllers, cable connections, and software controlling high voltage battery systems.

Recalls
  • Throttle Position Sensor. NHTSA recall 25V138000 affects 40 vehicles. A loose connector pin on the throttle position sensor power wire may cause a loss of signal to the powertrain control module, resulting in loss of drive power. This defect increases crash risk. Motiv will inspect and repair or replace the PCM connector at no charge. Owner notifications were mailed April 23, 2025.
  • Wiring Defect. Also part of recall 25V138000, the same 40 vehicles may have loose wiring causing loss of drive power. The risk and remedy are identical to the throttle position sensor issue with free inspection and repair from Motiv technicians.
  • Traction Motor Controller Wiring. Recall 24V603000 involves 6 buses from 2021-2023 equipped with the Gen 5 EPIC powertrain. CAN signal wires could contact the frame and become damaged, causing drive power loss. Motiv will inspect, repair loose wires, and replace damaged wiring for free. Owner notification letters were sent September 5, 2024.
  • 12-Volt Control Cable. Recall 24V781000 affects 25 buses from 2021-2024 with the Gen 4 EPIC powertrain. A wire connection point may loosen, causing loss of 12-volt control to high voltage batteries and loss of drive power. Motiv technicians will inspect and replace cables as needed at no cost. Notifications mailed December 23, 2024.
  • Charging Module Software. Recall 24V602000 applies to 28 vehicles including 2021-2023 F-450 and 2020 F-59 models with Gen 5 EPIC powertrain. Software may incorrectly detect a loss of isolation and shut down high voltage batteries, causing loss of steering, brake assist, and drive power. Motiv will provide a free over-the-air software update. Owner letters mailed September 5, 2024.

Owners facing repeated loss of drive power or related electrical issues along with unresolved recall repairs may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney could help clarify legal options.
