The 2013 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER has 1 complaint and 8 recalls filed with NHTSA. The single complaint describes the vehicle shutting off unexpectedly on a state highway due to a faulty ECU, which posed a safety risk. The owner mentioned that a technical service bulletin was issued about this part but no recall was initiated.

Common Issues

  • Engine shutdown. Vehicle turns off unexpectedly on the highway related to ECU malfunction, risking driver safety.

Eight recalls affect various systems including steering, suspension, structural components, and visibility features. The recalls address safety defects that could impair handling, control, or driver visibility.

Recalls

  • Power steering pressure tube. Recall 14V366000 affects 203 vehicles. The pressure tube may develop a hole from contact with the transmission, causing fluid leaks and loss of steering assistance. The repair involves replacing both the pressure and return tubes free of charge.
  • Front lower control arm corrosion. Recall 16V458000 covers 194,674 vehicles. Saltwater exposure can corrode the front cross member causing the control arms to detach and risk loss of control. Dealers will apply anti-corrosion treatment or replace the cross member at no cost.
  • Front lower control arm corrosion. Recall 20V279000 involves 141,200 vehicles with similar corrosion risks leading to control arm detachment. Repairs include inspection, corrosion sealing, or cross member replacement free of charge.
  • Wiper link corrosion. Recall 16V791000 for 100,082 vehicles addresses water intrusion causing ball joint corrosion and possible wiper separation, risking loss of function. Dealers replace rubber boots and inspect wiper components free of charge.
  • Wiper motor failure. Recall 17V461000 affects 100,082 vehicles. Water leaks cause internal motor corrosion leading to failure and reduced visibility. Wiper motors will be replaced free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs from these defects or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting an attorney can help determine the best course of action.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

My vehicle shut off on a state route when I had the vehicle towed to the dealership I was informed it was the ecu. I found out a year after my vehicle was purchased, there was a technical service bulletin out in this part. I am not sure why there was not a recall sent when they knew this part could be defective and my life was put at risk by it shutting off on the highway. How is a vehicle safe when it just shuts off. This should have been a recall and not a bulletin. Please reconsider making this a recall. I would hate to see people lose their lives because of this.
