2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER Complaints and Recall Information

The 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER has 8 complaints and 8 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the suspension, including cross member corrosion leading to tie rod failures and control arm detachment. Other complaints include front windshield wiper motor failure and brake light malfunctions.

Common Issues

  • Suspension failure. Rusted front cross members cause tie rods and control arms to fail, resulting in loss of vehicle control and undrivable conditions.
  • Brake light malfunction. Rear brake lights sometimes fail to illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed, reducing visibility to other drivers.
  • Wiper motor failure. Front windshield wiper motors stop working, rendering wipers inoperative and reducing visibility.

There are 8 recalls impacting various systems including powertrain, suspension, lighting, and visibility components. Recall remedies generally involve part replacement or repairs to prevent fluid leaks, component detachment, or corrosion-related failures.

Recalls

  • Transfer case assembly. (NHTSA Recall 14V365000) Applies to 5 vehicles. Defective oil seals in replacement transfer case assemblies may dislodge allowing automatic transmission fluid to enter the transfer case. This reduces transmission fluid pressure and can cause poor shifting or loss of drive, increasing crash risk. Dealers replace the transfer case assembly as needed free of charge.
  • Power steering pressure tube. (NHTSA Recall 14V366000) Affects 203 vehicles. Insufficient clearance causes the power steering pressure tube to develop holes and leak fluid. This leak can cause loss of steering assistance and increase crash risk. Dealers replace the pressure tube and return tube free of charge.
  • Brake light switch. (NHTSA Recall 14V564000) Impacts 37,145 vehicles. The brake light switch may malfunction causing brake lights not to illuminate during braking. This raises the risk of rear-end collisions. Dealers replace the brake light switch free of charge.
  • Front lower control arm. (NHTSA Recall 16V458000) Covers 194,674 vehicles. Corrosion from road salt can cause front cross members to corrode, leading to control arm detachment. This can result in loss of vehicle control and increased crash risk. Dealers inspect, apply anti-corrosion treatments, or replace the cross member free of charge.
  • Sunroof glass assembly. (NHTSA Recall 18V071000) Applies to 56,641 vehicles. Sunroof glass may detach while driving creating a road hazard. Dealers replace the sunroof glass assembly at no cost.
  • Wiper link ball joint. (NHTSA Recall 16V791000) Affects 100,082 vehicles. Water intrusion causes corrosion and possible separation of the wiper link ball joint, leading to inoperative wipers. Dealers replace the rubber boot to prevent water intrusion and inspect or replace the wiper motor crank arm as needed.
  • Windshield wiper motor. (NHTSA Recall 17V461000) Covers 100,082 vehicles. Water entering the wiper motor causes corrosion and possible failure, risking loss of visibility. Dealers replace the wiper motor free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated suspension failures, brake light malfunctions, or windshield wiper issues, especially when related to open recalls, may want to review their rights under their state’s lemon law. Persistent safety defects or unresolved recall repairs might qualify for protection or remedies available to consumers.
