2016 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER SPORT Complaints and Recall Information
The 2016 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER SPORT has 7 complaints and 13 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the transmission warning light coming on and the vehicle stalling or responding sluggishly. Some also mention hesitation during acceleration and problems with steering vibrations and water intrusion inside the vehicle.
- Transmission warnings. The transmission light frequently illuminates and the vehicle stalls or hesitates in response. Problems occur while driving or when the car is at rest and persist despite multiple transmission services and towing.
- Acceleration hesitation. Drivers report hesitation upon accelerating followed by jerking forward, especially when shifting into fourth gear at various speeds.
- Steering concerns. The steering column vibrates and produces loud noises, and some owners note swaying while driving.
- Water intrusion. Water leaks into the vehicle cabin causing the floorboards to become soaked.
- Repeated headlight replacements. One owner replaced the headlights multiple times to address ongoing failure.
- Transmission slipping. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) slips and transmission warnings trigger mainly in stop-and-go traffic.
Thirteen recalls affect multiple systems on this vehicle. Recall campaigns address electrical components, body structure, door latches, suspension parts, braking systems, and windshield wipers among others.
- Starter assembly relay. NHTSA recall 17V609000 affects 132,552 vehicles. Defective relays may cause engine stalls, reduced power, or overheating, increasing crash risk. Dealers replace relays free of charge.
- Liftgate supports. Recall 16V867000 covers 50,228 vehicles. Corrosion due to insufficient anti-corrosion treatment can cause the liftgate to fall suddenly, raising injury risk. Liftgate supports are replaced at no cost.
- Door latches. Recall 17V233000 involves 35,674 vehicles with inside door latches that may not fully secure in high heat, risking doors opening while driving. Dealer replacements are free.
- Front lower control arms. Recall 20V279000 for 141,200 vehicles addresses corrosion of front cross members causing possible detachment of control arms and loss of vehicle control. Repairs include inspection, sealing, or replacement at no charge.
- Parking brake components. Recalls 20V741000 and 18V070000 totaling nearly 190,000 vehicles fix corrosion of rear brake shafts and calipers that can cause parking brake binding and unintended vehicle movement. Caliper assemblies and related parts are replaced free.
- Windshield wiper linkages. Recall 18V103000 for 158,651 vehicles fixes corrosion of wiper link ball joints that may cause wiper failure and reduced visibility. Link rods and crank arms are replaced at no cost.
- CVT control module. Recall 16V563000 for 82,436 vehicles addresses delay in acceleration caused by the transmission control software. Dealers reprogram the CVT control units free of charge.
Owners facing repeated transmission and safety-related repairs or unresolved recall issues may want to review their state’s lemon law protections for potential rights.
