The 2011 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER SPORT has 1 complaint and 14 recalls filed with NHTSA. The single complaint involves the windshield wiper motor failing to operate while driving in rain, obstructing driver visibility and creating a hazard. The wipers later resumed normal function and the vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed for the issue.

Common Issues

  • Windshield wiper motor failure. The wiper motor stops operating during rain despite full engagement, reducing visibility and increasing crash risk. Function resumes without repair.

The recalls address a variety of systems including visibility components, structural corrosion, braking system, engine belts, and labeling errors. Affected components range from panoramic roofs and windshield wipers to suspension parts and brake boosters.

Recalls

  • Panoramic glass roof adhesion. (NHTSA 13V255000) 3,181 vehicles may have panoramic glass roofs installed without primer, causing potential detachment and road hazard. Owners will be notified to inspect and reinstall glass with primer if needed.
  • Certification label error. (NHTSA 15V579000) Two vehicles have incorrect certification labels missing accurate VINs. Dealers will replace labels free of charge.
  • Brake booster switch sleeve crack. (NHTSA 14V560000) Two vehicles may have cracked brake booster sleeves preventing brake pedal return, risking improper vehicle movement. Inspection and replacement provided at no cost.
  • Engine belt and pulley wear. (NHTSA 14V562000) Over 165,000 vehicles have belts that may detach due to worn pulleys, causing engine stalls and crash risk. Drive belts and worn pulleys will be replaced.
  • Lift gate support corrosion. (NHTSA 16V867000) Over 50,000 vehicles have lift gate supports with insufficient corrosion protection risking sudden gate falls causing injury. Supports will be replaced free of charge.
  • Windshield wiper motor corrosion. (NHTSA 16V792000) About 93,801 vehicles may have water intrusion leading to wiper motor corrosion and failure. Replacement motors will be provided once parts are available.
  • Front control arm detachment. (NHTSA 20V279000) Approximately 141,200 vehicles face corrosion in front cross members causing potential front lower control arm detachment and loss of control. Repairs include corrosion treatment or cross member replacement.
  • Wiper link ball joint corrosion. (NHTSA 18V103000) Over 158,000 vehicles have corroded wiper link ball joints causing wiper linkage separation and failure, reducing visibility. Replacement link rods and crank arms provided.
  • Belt tensioner flange cracking. (NHTSA 18V069000) Around 141,053 vehicles may have cracked belt tensioner flanges leading to accessory belt detachment, battery discharge, and engine stall. Belt tensioners will be replaced with improved versions.
  • Blower motor failure. (NHTSA 15V233000) Nearly 77,000 vehicles may experience blower motor failure, reducing defroster effectiveness and windshield visibility. Suspect motors will be replaced free of charge.

Owners with repeated repairs related to these defects, unresolved recall notices, or ongoing safety concerns should consider their potential rights under state lemon laws. Legal consultation may assist in evaluating eligibility for remedies.
