2025 MINI COUNTRYMAN Complaints and Recall Information

The 2025 MINI COUNTRYMAN has 5 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to the recall repair parts being unavailable and concerns about unexpected vehicle movement, which triggered restraint system warnings despite no visible damage.

Common Issues
  • Recall repair delays. Owners report receiving recall notifications but cannot complete repairs because parts are unavailable, leading to extended wait times beyond a reasonable period.
  • Unexpected vehicle lurching. A complaint describes the vehicle suddenly moving forward several feet when releasing the brake while stopped, leading to low-speed impacts.
  • Restraint system warning. The vehicle displays persistent yellow and red warnings related to the restraint system, seatbelts, and airbags after minor impacts, even without external damage.
  • Forward sensor vulnerability. The forward sensor, which triggers restraint system warnings, lacks protective barriers and can be damaged by minor impacts or even being kicked, without the driver being notified clearly.
  • Conflicting dealer and manufacturer guidance. Owners report inconsistent advice from MINI USA, dealerships, and insurance companies on addressing sensor-related warnings and damage responsibility.

The 2025 MINI COUNTRYMAN has four recalls affecting braking and interior safety systems. These recalls address the integrated brake system, which may impair braking and stability controls, and rear door armrest brackets that can detach during airbag deployment, risking occupant injury.

Recalls
  • Integrated brake system. (NHTSA 24V104000) Approximately 266,716 vehicles are affected. The integrated brake system may malfunction, causing loss of power brake assist and failure of ABS and DSC systems. This increases the risk of crashes. Dealers will replace the brake system free of charge. Owners were notified between June and December 2024.
  • Electronic stability control. (NHTSA 24V104000) The same 266,716 vehicles share this recall with the integrated brake system. Loss of proper ESC function can cause loss of vehicle control and increase crash risk. Repairs involve replacing the integrated brake system at no cost.
  • Rear door armrest bracket. (NHTSA 24V340000) Nine vehicles are affected. The armrest support bracket on the rear side door panel may be improperly secured, causing it to detach during airbag deployment. This can strike rear occupants or impair thorax airbag deployment, raising injury risk. Dealers will replace affected door panels for free. Vehicles remain in dealer inventory without owner notifications.
  • Thorax airbag. (NHTSA 24V340000) Identical to the previous recall, this affects the airbag system due to the door armrest bracket defect in nine vehicles. The remedy is replacement of the rear side door panels at no charge, with no owner letters issued since the vehicles have not sold.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, unresolved recall issues, or safety system malfunctions may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a qualified attorney can help clarify those rights and available remedies.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)

BMW of North America, LLC. (BMW) is recalling certain 2023-2025 BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models and model years. The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.

Risk: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle. Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

Aug 8, 2025, I was stopped in a parking lot, I decided to roll forward, when I took my foot off the break, the car jumped 5-6 ft forward. I immediately slamed on the break to stop it from moving. The car hit with a low speed impact a pole like thing with concrete around it. The speed didn't even register on the speedometer. My car shows no damage, I have photos. However, my car immediately flashed the Yellow warning "Restraint system." along with RED highlighting both the seatbelts and airbags. I called Mini USA as instructed. Mini USA said "That warning should go away a few hours after calling. If you see no damage then it should be fine. If not, call the dealership." It did not go away. I called Schomp Mini the dealership, [XXX] who used to be the general manager said: "Call the insurance company, this sounds like it's not a mechanical defect since it is an outside event." I called Geico. Geico said "If there is no damage on the bumper, then we consider it a manufacturing fault, and the dealer has to pay for it." I then later called Mini USA again, I was transferred to a head technician, who said "Oh, yeah, That warning isn't telling you that the restraint system is broken, it's telling you the forward sensor is. There is no protective barrier between the sensor and the bumper, so it can easily get broken without any damage to the outside of the car. It would be a manufacturing issue. Call the Service Manager at the Dealer to take care of it." The Service Manager, he said "The computer will flag every event if you did a hard stop with the break and it won't necessarily tell when the sensor is broken." So I said "So then if someone hit my car in a parking lot I wouldn't know?" he said "yes." There are thousands of reports of lurching with 2025s. This is clearly a manufacturing defect. I might be stuck with a bill nobody will pay. This is frightening me. Apparently you can even KICK the sensor on any mini and break it without anyone knowing.
