Recalls
  • Wheelchair lift defect. Recall 15V769000 affects 223 vehicles with certain Ricon wheelchair lifts that have folding link arms with oversized pivot holes, causing bearings to displace. This may allow the lift platform to detach when doors open, increasing injury risk. Repairs include inspection and replacement of damaged parts at no cost.
  • Emergency door handle binding. Recall 21V530000 covers 17,204 buses where the service door emergency release handle may bind, preventing door panels from opening. This failure could hinder evacuation during emergencies. Dealers provide adjustment instructions free of charge.
  • Emergency door retaining device failure. Recall 20V133000 involves 17,693 buses with emergency door retainers that may not hold the door open. This violates FMVSS 217 requirements and elevates injury risk in evacuations. Dealers install repair kits at no charge.
  • Seat foam insufficiency. Recall 18V474000 affects 1,357 buses with CE White/HSM SB11-30" school bus seats. Foam in the knee impact area may not absorb crash energy adequately, failing FMVSS 222 standards. Dealers add extra foam padding for free.
  • Wheelchair lift positioning cam failure. Recall 18V574000 includes 6 buses with certain S-Series and K-Series Titanium wheelchair lifts where the input cam may fail, causing the platform to stop higher than floor level. This creates a tipping hazard for wheelchair users. Dealers replace the cam free of charge.

Owners facing repeated repairs related to these recalls or persistent safety concerns may have rights under their state lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney could provide guidance on potential remedies.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

Corp. Micro Bird Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 MBII, G5, and T-Series school buses manufactured January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2014, and equipped with certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts built by the Ricon Corporation. The affected lifts are equipped with folding link arms that may have pivot holes that are too big, allowing the bearings to move out of position.

Risk: If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.
