The 2014 MERCEDES-BENZ CLA250 has 4 complaints and 16 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to check engine codes requiring PCV valve replacement, as well as concerns about rusting of the rear subframe which has led to a control arm failure in at least one case. Safety warnings or malfunction indicators are not always present prior to these failures.

Common Issues
  • PCV valve failure. Multiple complaints involved check engine code p052e indicating the need for the crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve replacement.
  • Rear subframe rust. One owner reported the rear subframe severely rusted from the inside out, causing a control arm to break off and loss of vehicle control at 30 MPH.

There are 16 recalls impacting this model, covering a variety of components and systems including airbags, electrical wiring, roof structure, brake system fittings, and communication modules. Many of these recalls address safety-related defects with free repairs available.

Recalls
  • Passenger fuse box (15V426000). 43 vehicles affected by fuses incorrectly installed in the passenger side interior fuse boxes. This can cause loss of electrical contact impacting the front passenger seat occupancy system, passenger air bag indicator, instrument cluster, and windshield wipers. Increased risk of injury and crashes possible. Dealers inspect and replace fuse boxes if needed. Recall began August 18, 2015.
  • Front roof panel bonding (23V854000). 2,976 vehicles recalled due to front roof panel potentially detaching from the vehicle after a prior repair. Detachment can create a road hazard increasing crash risk. Dealers replace the roof panel free of charge. Notification letters mailed starting March 22, 2024.
  • Front roof panel bonding expansion (21V197000). 15,096 vehicles recalled for the same roof panel bonding adhesive defect affecting panoramic sunroof models from 2014-2020. Replacement of front panel with new adhesive free of charge. Notification letters sent in 2021.
  • Brake booster vacuum fitting (16V901000). 10 vehicles with a fitting that may break causing increased brake pedal force needed. Owners receive free replacement of the connector fitting. Recall began July 21, 2017.
  • Emergency call software (19V787000). 24,226 vehicles affected by software faults causing inaccurate date and time for emergency call system, potentially delaying emergency response. Owners receive free software update OTA or at dealers. Recall began December 23, 2019.
  • Driver air bag deployment (17V627000). Over 495,000 vehicles, including this model, recalled for risk of unintended driver air bag deployment caused by insufficient grounding and a broken clockspring. Dealers perform grounding improvements free of charge. Recall began December 6, 2017.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, safety system failures, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting with a consumer protection attorney may help clarify those rights and available options.
