Recalls
  • Electric Power Steering. NHTSA recall 17V241000 affects 58,323 vehicles including the 2016 AMG GLE43. The electric power steering connector may be insufficiently sealed, allowing water ingress that can deactivate power steering assist and increase crash risk. Dealers will replace the connector and inspect or replace the steering rack free of charge. Parts were initially unavailable and interim notices were sent in June 2017.
  • Engine and Transmission Software. Recall 17V506000 involves 12,322 AMG GLE43 vehicles. Software conflicts between the engine and transmission control units may cause engine shutdown during braking or acceleration after ECO start, increasing crash risk. Dealers will reprogram software at no cost. The recall began in September 2017.
  • Occupant Classification System. Recall 16V903000 covers 47,799 vehicles including the AMG GLE43. Incorrect calibration of the front passenger seat occupant classification system can misclassify occupants as child seats, deactivating the front passenger air bag. This elevates injury risk in crashes. Dealers will update the system software free of charge.
  • Front Passenger Air Bag. Also part of recall 16V903000, the misclassification issue directly affects air bag deployment. Failure to deploy the air bag as intended increases passenger injury risk. Correction is performed through software updates at no charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or safety-related recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consultation with a qualified attorney can help clarify possible legal remedies.
