Recalls
  • Exhaust system bellows pipe. Recall 13V142000 affected 155 vehicles with a defect in the bellows pipe assembly that may fail during the exhaust regeneration process, allowing hot gases to escape and increase fire risk. MCI will inspect and replace bellows pipes as needed, free of charge.
  • Axle hub carriers. Recall 15V389000 involved 232 motorcoaches where porosity in hub carriers may cause oil leaks or cracking, risking hub failure and loss of vehicle control. The fix includes inspection and replacement of defective hubs at no cost to owners.
  • Wheelchair lift beacon lighting. Recall 24V073000 covers 2,114 vehicles with Ricon wheelchair lifts where the threshold warning system beacon may be too dim, reducing visibility and increasing injury risk. MCI will replace the TWS kits free of charge.
  • Exhaust system bellows pipe hole. Recall 18V309000 affected 1,123 vehicles, identifying holes in exhaust bellows caused by vibrations that compromise containment of hot gases during regeneration, creating fire hazards. Dealers will install improved bellows pipe assemblies at no charge.
  • Seat belt anchorage welds. Recall 16V020000 includes 607 buses with Recaro driver seats where missing welds on J-Brackets could detach seat belt anchorages, risking driver injury in crashes. Inspection and replacement of defective brackets are provided free.

Owners of the 2013 MCI D4505 facing repeated repairs, unresolved recall issues, or potential safety defects may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws for possible remedies.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY:WHEELCHAIR LIFT/RAMP

Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2014-2018 D4000, 2013-2019 D4005, 2013-2023 D4500, 2013-2020 D4505, and 2021-2024 D45CRT coaches equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift. The red beacon lighting on the Threshold Warning System (TWS) may not be bright enough. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 403, "Platform Lift Systems."

Risk: Beacons that do not provide proper illumination may be less visible to wheelchair lift users, increasing the risk of injury.

18V309000

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM

Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2011-2016 D4500, D4505, D4000, D4005, and D4000 ISTV motor coaches equipped with ISX engines. Due to vibrations, the exhaust bellow pipes develop a hole.

Risk: If the pipe develops a hole, during a regeneration cycle, hot exhaust gases may leak out, increasing the risk of a fire.
