2010 MAZDA MAZDA6 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2010 MAZDA MAZDA6 has 3 complaints and 11 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the steering difficulty due to severe rust on the engine cradle and persistent airbag warning light after recall repairs. There are also reports of the vehicle veering unexpectedly while driving.
Common Issues- Engine cradle failure. The engine cradle rusts severely, causing it to fail and making the vehicle difficult to steer. This defect was diagnosed by independent mechanics at around 114,000 miles but was not repaired by the dealer.
- Steering difficulty and unintended veering. The car unpredictably veers to the left during driving with no warning lights illuminated, coinciding with the engine cradle rust issue.
- Persistent airbag warning light. The airbag light remains on after the airbag recall repair, potentially related to a separate recall involving the airbag control unit malfunction.
In addition to complaints, there are 11 recalls affecting multiple systems including fuel system components, door latches, airbag inflators, and structural rust issues. These recalls address concerns such as fuel tank cracking due to evaporative canister vent line blockages, door latch screw loosening, defective airbag inflators, and front cross member corrosion causing steering risks.
Recalls- Fuel tank assembly - Recall 11V134000. About 52,000 vehicles may have spider webs in the evaporative canister vent line causing excessive negative pressure on the fuel tank. This can result in cracks and fuel leaks, increasing fire risk. Dealers will inspect, clean the line, and install a spring to prevent webs, free of charge.
- Door latch screws - Recall 13V425000. Approximately 161,400 vehicles have door latch mounting screws that may loosen, potentially causing the door to open while driving, which poses accident risk. Dealers will apply thread locking adhesive and retorque screws at no cost.
- Fuel system vent hose - Recall 14V114000. Around 42,000 vehicles with 2.5L engines may have spider webs blocking the evaporative canister vent hose leading to fuel tank cracking and fire risk. The remedy includes reprogramming the powertrain control module, cleaning the vent line, and replacing parts if webs are found.
- Passenger air bag inflator - Recalls 19V782000, 17V429000, 18V717000, 18V018000. Over 480,000 vehicles face risk from inflators that may explode due to propellant degradation after long exposure to humidity and temperature cycling. Inflator rupture can send metal fragments causing injury or death. Owners are advised not to drive affected vehicles until repairs are made. Dealers will replace inflators free of charge.
- Structural corrosion and control arm - Recall 18V631000. About 50,176 vehicles sold or registered in northern states risk front cross member corrosion from road salt exposure. This weakens mounting points affecting steering alignment and crash risk. Dealers will inspect and either install protective wax and drain hoses or replace cross members, free of charge.
- Air bag control unit - Recall 16V594000. Nearly 42,000 vehicles may have moisture-damaged air bag control units due to improper coating. This causes airbag warning lights and prevents airbag deployment, increasing injury risk. Replacement parts are not currently available, but dealers will replace the units free when parts arrive.
Owners facing repeated repairs, unresolved recall issues, or safety-related defects should consider reviewing their rights under their state’s lemon law. Legal consultation may help address ongoing problems associated with this vehicle.

AIR BAGS
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured February 4, 2008, to December 3, 2009. The protective coating may not have been properly applied to the air bag control unit (ACU) and, as a result, moisture may damage the unit causing it to malfunction.
Risk: Failure of the ACU would illuminate the air bag warning light and prevent the air bags from deploying in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured September 14, 2009, through May 2, 2011, and equipped with 2.5L engine. In the affected vehicles, spiders may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent hose, blocking it and causing the fuel tank to have an excessive amount of negative pressure.
Risk: Negative pressure could cause the fuel tank to crack resulting in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH
Mazda is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured February 4, 2008, through August 24, 2012. The door latch mounting screws may become loose.
Risk: If all three door latch mounting screws become excessively loose the door latch mechanism would not engage and the door might open while the vehicle is in motion increasing the risk of accident or injury.

52000 vehicles affected
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
MAZDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 MAZDA6 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 8, 2008, THROUGH FEBRUARY 8, 2010. A CERTAIN TYPE OF SPIDER MAY WEAVE A WEB IN THE EVAPORATIVE CANISTER VENT LINE AND THIS MAY CAUSE A RESTRICTION IN THE LINE. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FUEL TANK PRESSURE MAY BECOME EXCESSIVELY NEGATIVE WHEN THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM WORKS TO PURGE THE VAPORS FROM THE CANISTER.
Risk: AS THE CANISTER IS PURGED REPEATEDLY DURING NORMAL OPERATION, THE STRESS ON THE FUEL TANK MAY EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A CRACK, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO FUEL LEAKAGE AD AN INCREASED RISK OF FIRE.
