Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Air vehicles. The high voltage coolant heater may fail to defrost the windshield.

Risk: A high voltage coolant heater that fails to defrost the windshield can reduce the driver's view, increasing the risk of a crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY THERMAL:MANAGEMENT:SOFTWARE

Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Air vehicles. When a hardware communication fault is detected, the High Voltage Interlock (HVIL) software could disconnect the high voltage contactors while the vehicle is in motion, causing a loss of drive power.

Risk: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL:SOFTWARE

Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Air vehicles running software release versions 2.1.2 through 2.1.26. The software may cause a fault while the adaptive cruise control is on, resulting in a loss of drive power.

Risk: A sudden loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Air vehicles. The wiper arm nuts may loosen, causing the windshield wipers to fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."

Risk: Inoperative windshield wipers can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

BACK OVER PREVENTION:DISPLAY FUNCTION

Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Air vehicles with a software version between 2.015 and 2.0.50. The rearview camera image may fail to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display while in reverse decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:FUSES, RELAYS, CONTACTS, AND SHUNTS

Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Air vehicles. The electrically activated contact switches that transfer energy to the drive motors, may unexpectedly open, cutting off power to the electric motors.

Risk: Power loss will shut down electric motors, causing a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.

SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY:SEAT HEATER/COOLER

Lucid USA, Inc. (Lucid) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Lucid Air vehicles. Under certain conditions, temperature monitoring for the rear seat heaters could become inoperative and result in the rear seats overheating.

Risk: Overheated rear seats can increase the risk of a burn injury.

SEATS

Premature wear in perforated leather/vinyl seats. Cracking and tearing.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The vehicle became completely inoperable suddenly while driving on the road due to a "drive unit failure." Fortunately, I was still at an intersection when this occurred. I don't what would have happened if I was in motion, especially at higher speed on a highway. The car was towed to the nearest Lucid service center, but it remains there over 6 weeks later as they are not able to fix the problem.

Shortly after releasing the accelerator pedal to obtain a parking pass, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated at a high speed, resulting in a collision with the pavement and a post on the premises. This incident bears similarities to the all-weather mat recall; however, Lucid has confirmed that my vehicle's mats are not listed under the recall. The failure appears to be related to the Lucid electric propulsion system, which is available for inspection upon request. As a result of the crash, I sustained minor injuries. A police report has been filed with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department by Deputy M. Scott (Report #[XXX], Chino Hills Station, Chino Hills, CA 91709). Lucid is currently conducting an investigation and has issued Incident Report #[XXX]. Additionally, State Farm Auto Insurance (California) has assigned an appraiser to assess the body damage. There was no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the issue appearing except for one short incident of sudden unintended acceleration experienced by my husband which has been reported to Lucid. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The contact owns a 2023 Lucid Air. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stopped at a red light and in the "Dream" driving mode, the light turned green and the vehicle drove forward and crashed into the rear of a second vehicle. The contact indicated that the "Dream" driving mode had malfunctioned and did not detect the vehicle ahead. During the crash, the vehicle was traveling approximately 5 MPH. No injuries were reported, and no police report was taken. The cause of the failure was unknown. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but was unwilling to share data from the vehicle related to the crash. After the incident, the contact will no longer drive the vehicle due to the safety concerns. The failure mileage was 21,000.
