The 2014 LINCOLN MKZ has 6 complaints and 23 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report problems with steering difficulty, including warnings such as "Steering Assist Unavailable" and "Drive Control Malfunction." Other common complaints include issues with the rear view camera, trunk release button, seat heating and cooling, and unexpected vehicle shutdowns.

Common Issues

  • Steering difficulty. Owners report the steering wheel becomes very difficult or impossible to turn, often accompanied by warning lights like "Service AdvancedTrac" and "Steering Assist Unavailable."
  • Steering warning lights. Messages such as "Collision Warning Not Available" and "Drive Control Malfunction Service Required" frequently appear before steering issues occur.
  • Vehicle shutdown. Some owners state the vehicle has shut down randomly while in park and had trouble restarting on several occasions.
  • Rear view camera failure. Rear view cameras operate only intermittently, sometimes working about 20% of the time or less.
  • Trunk button malfunction. The external trunk release button fails to operate, although the remote and internal buttons still work.
  • Heated and cooled seats issues. Seat heating and cooling functions often fail or work sporadically.

The 2014 Lincoln MKZ has 23 recalls that affect various systems including powertrain, steering, restraints, braking, lighting, and door latches. Many recalls involve the electric power steering system and door latch components.

Recalls

  • Transmission range sensor. (NHTSA 13V594000) The sensor may allow shifting out of Park without pressing the brake, risking vehicle rollaway. A PCM software update will fix this issue for 7,153 vehicles.
  • Restraint Control Module. (NHTSA 14V597000) Cracking and circuit shorting in the module may disable airbags and seat belt pretensioners, increasing injury risk. The RCM will be replaced free of charge; parts are not currently available.
  • Seatback recliner welds. (NHTSA 14V164000) Substandard weld joints may cause the front seatbacks to lean unexpectedly, raising injury risk. Dealers will replace seatbacks on 43,135 vehicles.
  • Door latches failure. (NHTSA 15V246000, 20V331000, 17V210000, 20V177000) Components in door latches may break or not latch properly, risking door opening while driving. Affected vehicles, numbering in the hundreds of thousands, will have latches replaced or inspected free of charge.
  • Electric power steering bolts corrosion. (NHTSA 15V250000, 19V632000) Corrosion on steering gear motor bolts can cause detachment, leading to loss of power steering assist and increased crash risk. Dealers will apply sealer, replace bolts, or install new steering gear if needed on nearly 600,000 vehicles.
  • Front brake hoses. (NHTSA 23V162000) Brake hoses may rupture and leak fluid, extending stopping distance and increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace hoses on over 1.2 million vehicles.
  • Steering wheel bolt looseness. (NHTSA 18V167000) The steering wheel retaining bolt may loosen, possibly detaching the wheel while driving. Owners will receive a longer bolt replacement for free on more than 1.3 million vehicles.
  • Seat belt anchor failure. (NHTSA 16V875000) Heat from pretensioner deployment may fail the front seat belt anchor cables, reducing occupant restraint in a crash. Dealers will apply a protective coating free of charge to 600,000 vehicles.
  • Headlamp defects. (NHTSA 20E025000) Replacement headlamps may have improper beam patterns and missing markings, decreasing visibility and increasing crash risk. Affected headlamps will be inspected and replaced as necessary on 130 vehicles.

Multiple complaints involve steering malfunctions and safety-related recalls affecting hundreds of thousands of 2014 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. Owners facing repeated repairs or ongoing safety defects may have legal rights under state lemon laws and should consider consulting with a qualified attorney.

13V594000

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid vehicles manufactured April 26, 2012, through September 24, 2013. Due to a manufacturing error, the transmission range sensor may not function properly allowing the affected vehicles to be shifted out of the Park position without first applying the brake pedal. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, "Theft Protection."

Risk: Without requiring the brake to be pressed, the vehicle may be unintentionally shifted out of Park, allowing it to roll which may result in a crash.

STEERING

A light came on for steering loss, stop safely and lock down my car. We are unable to drive it. The issue is the same to the recall number 19526 and possibly number 18508. Which my car is listed. The steering becsme difficult to turn and then eventually the light came on for steering loss and the car has been disabled. I looked up our Vin number [XXX] , and it was not included on this recall. However we believe it should be. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

I was sitting in idle staying warm in car. When I decided to leave, I noticed I couldn't turn the steering wheel or that it was very difficult to steer. I have not had this issue inspected. The warning lights that was on before was "service advancedtrac", "collision warning not available" "drive control malfunction service required". I called Sons Ford Auburn where they stayed there was no recall for this issue. I also called Lincoln customer service where they told me the recall doesn't fall under my vehicle due to it being a hybrid and that I don't have the bolts associated with the recall.
