2021 LINCOLN CORSAIR Complaints and Recall Information

The 2021 LINCOLN CORSAIR has 11 complaints and 65 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the backup camera intermittently displaying a blue or blank screen despite recall repairs. Additional complaints include the detachment of the front passenger seat, water intrusion in the trunk, premature rear brake wear, and problems with the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system affecting drive mode switching.

Common Issues

  • Backup camera failure. The rearview camera frequently turns blue or displays a distorted image despite repairs done under recall, and no direct cause has been identified for the issue.
  • Passenger seat detachment. The front passenger side seat detached and became unhinged while the vehicle was parked; the seat required replacement but was not repaired at the time of complaint.
  • Water intrusion in trunk. Water floods the trunk compartment while the vehicle is parked with no warning indicators illuminated; cause remains undetermined despite multiple dealership inspections.
  • Delayed recall repairs. Parts unavailable for certain recalls including the electrical system and battery management, resulting in extended repair wait times and inconvenience for owners.
  • Battery charging restriction. Owners of plug-in hybrid variants were instructed to stop charging the high voltage battery due to risk of fire caused by a defect; resolution and parts have been delayed beyond the initial timeframe.
  • Premature rear brake wear. Rear brakes wear out unusually quickly at low mileage, possibly due to sticking calipers, raising safety concerns over potential brake failure.
  • AWD system malfunction. Faulty AWD module caused by an incorrect transistor prevents the vehicle from switching drive modes, triggering multiple warning lights and affecting handling.

There are 65 recalls affecting various systems. They involve powertrain control, engine fire risks, rearview camera failures, seat belt warning malfunctions, and battery defects among others.

Recalls

  • Powertrain control module. Recall 25V133000 affects 207 vehicles where incorrect prior repairs cause the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module software to shift the vehicle into neutral unexpectedly, risking loss of drive power and crash; dealers will update the software at no charge.
  • Engine fire risk. Recall 25V345000 covering 1,797 vehicles addresses risk of engine oil and fuel vapor leaking into the engine compartment on 2.5L HEV/PHEV engines, possibly causing fire; dealers will update software and advise owners on safety measures.
  • Rearview camera failure. Multiple recalls including 25V510000 (41,875 vehicles), 25V048000 (91,580 vehicles), 25V442000 (200,186 vehicles), 25V159000 (49,399 vehicles), 23V022000 (382,759 vehicles), and 23V342000 (442,973 vehicles) address water intrusion and software errors causing rearview or 360-degree cameras to fail or display distorted images, increasing risk of crashes; repairs range from camera replacement to software updates done free by dealers.
  • Seat belt warning chime. Recalls 25V338000 (3,227 vehicles) and 22V953000 (101,001 vehicles) cover vehicles with defective audio modules causing insufficient audible seat belt warnings, violating federal safety standards; dealers will update software free of charge.
  • Battery management defect. Recall 24V954000 involving 20,484 vehicles addresses a manufacturing defect in high voltage battery cells causing internal short circuits and potential fire; owners advised not to charge until repairs including software updates or battery replacement are performed free of charge.
  • Driveshaft lubricant level. Recall 21V011000 on 147 vehicles where inadequate lubricant may cause rear drive axle seizure leading to loss of vehicle control; dealers will inspect and refill or replace as needed at no cost.
  • Fuel delivery module leak. Recall 21V625000 involving 13,773 vehicles addresses leaks that cause low fuel pressure and engine stalls; dealers will replace the module free of charge.
  • Missing air bag warning label. Recall 24V852000 covering 27,678 vehicles involves missing dashboard labels related to airbag usage guidelines, increasing injury risk; Ford will mail replacement labels at no charge.

Owners of 2021 Lincoln Corsairs dealing with repeated repairs, unresolved recalls, or safety defects should consider their rights under state lemon laws. Persistent problems with critical systems like the powertrain, brakes, and safety devices highlight the importance of exploring these options when repair attempts fail or recalls are not promptly addressed.

SERVICE BRAKES

My 2021 Lincoln Corsair has 20,691 miles on it. At a dealer visit on June 9, 2025 for an oil change and routine maintenance I was told by the dealer that the rear brakes needed replacement. A friend of mine with a 2022 Corsair with 18000 miles on it has the same issue with rear brakes being worn out. This appears to be a common issue with late model Escapes, Corsairs, and Ford Edges. Rear brakes should never wear out in 20K miles unless the calipers are sticking which is what is happening. This appears to be a safety issue as the rear brakes could fail at any time with these low mileage vehicles.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

This correspondence comes to you in regard to Safety Recall Notice 24S79 / NHTSA Recall 24V954. I received a notice in February of this year from Lincoln regarding our vehicle (VIN [XXX] )- a 2021 Lincoln Corsair Plug-In Hybrid. The notice instructs us to cease charging the high voltage battery until further notice. The recall notification states that further charging the battery could result in a vehicle fire. The notice finally states that a resolution and parts will be available during the second quarter, which is now. Unfortunately, to date I have heard nothing from Lincoln. As we are both retired , my wife and I purchased a Plug-In Hybrid to help save money on gasoline. For the past three (going on four) months, we have had to pay for gasoline for every mile we have driven. Additionally each day that passes is another day less we have remaining on the original warranty. It would be greatly appreciated if you could respond to this request letting us know when this issue will be resolved. We also ask that Lincoln be obligated to extend a cash penalty to cover the cost of the last four months of gasoline purchases, and finally, to extend the manufacturer's warranty on the battery components to a lifetime warranty - in order for us to feel comfortable in the resolution offered to fix the issue.
