2011 LEXUS IS 350C Complaints and Recall Information

The 2011 LEXUS IS 350C has 0 complaints and 8 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to recalls involving engine components, air bag inflators, fuel system parts, and visibility systems.

Eight recalls address various systems including engine variable-valve timing components, windshield wiper arms, passenger and driver air bag inflators, and fuel delivery components.

Recalls
  • Engine VVT unit. NHTSA recall 13V395000 affects 101,584 vehicles. Bolts securing the variable-valve timing gear assembly can loosen after cold starts causing the engine to stall while driving, creating a crash risk. Lexus dealers will replace the VVT unit free of charge.
  • Wiper arm nuts. NHTSA recall 13V030000 covers 267,718 vehicles. Insufficient torque on wiper arm nuts may cause wipers to fail if restricted by heavy snow, reducing driver visibility and increasing crash risk. Dealers will install new nuts at no cost.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (Zone A). NHTSA recall 19V005000 impacts over 1.2 million vehicles including some 2011 IS350C models. Air bag inflators may explode due to propellant degradation from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes, risking serious injury or death. Dealers will replace affected inflators or assemblies free of charge.
  • Passenger and driver air bag inflators (follow-up recall). NHTSA recall 19V741000 includes 928,220 vehicles with previously replaced inflators of the same design. Propellant degradation remains a risk of inflator rupture causing injury from metal fragments. Dealers will provide replacement inflators or assemblies at no cost starting November 2019.
  • Fuel system pulsation dampers. NHTSA recall 18V432000 affects 114,998 vehicles. Fuel pulsation damper diaphragms may crack and leak fuel increasing fire risk. Dealers will replace faulty fuel delivery pipes with improved parts free of charge.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (initial recall). NHTSA recall 16V340000 covers 1,754,517 vehicles including IS350C models sold in certain states. Air bag inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation after prolonged exposure to humidity and temperature cycling, risking occupant injury or death. Dealers will replace inflators or assemblies at no charge.

Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved issues related to these recalls or other safety defects may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting with a qualified attorney or consumer protection expert is advised in such cases.

ENGINE

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Lexus GS350 vehicles manufactured June 19, 2006, through July 12, 2011; and model year 2006-2011 Lexus IS350 vehicles manufactured May 27, 2005, through July 13, 2011; and model year 2010-2011 Lexus IS350c vehicles manufactured November 25, 2009, through July 19, 2011. These vehicles, equipped with the 2GR-FSE engine, use bolts to secure the housing and sprocket of the Variable-Valve Timing (VVT) system gear assembly. These bolts could become loose due to abnormal impacts generated within the gear assembly immediately after a cold start-up.

Risk: The loose bolts could cause the VVT gear housing and sprocket to separate and result in the engine stopping while the vehicle is being driven, increasing the risk of a crash.
