2010 LEXUS HS Complaints and Recall Information

The 2010 LEXUS HS has 6 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the braking system, including the brake pump continuously pumping brake fluid and problems with the adaptive cruise control pressure. Several complaints also reference the illumination of the check engine warning light and failures related to the hybrid battery and accelerator pedal response.

Common Issues
  • Brake system failure. Owners report the brake pump continuously pumping brake fluid and an abnormal leak of adaptive cruise control pressure causing braking malfunctions.
  • Recall exclusion disputes. Some vehicles are not included in the recall despite showing identical brake system leaks, with dealers refusing to perform related repairs.
  • Safety concerns. The faulty braking system triggers ABS and brake warning lights, rendering the vehicle unsafe to drive according to repair shops.
  • Hybrid battery failure. One complaint details the hybrid battery failing, causing the vehicle to respond sluggishly or stall unexpectedly.
  • Accelerator pedal issues. Reports indicate the vehicle fails to respond correctly to accelerator input and can jerk or stop unexpectedly.
  • Dealer repair refusals. Some owners report dealers denying repairs related to recall issues despite warnings and prior recall work done on the vehicle.

There are 3 recalls for the 2010 Lexus HS, all affecting critical safety and fuel systems including braking and fuel system integrity. The recalls address defects that may increase crash risk or fire hazards.

Recalls
  • ABS Control Unit. NHTSA recall 10V039000 affected 148,549 vehicles. The ABS control unit programming caused inconsistent brake feel under certain conditions, potentially increasing stopping distances. Dealers reprogram the ABS control unit free of charge.
  • Fuel System Integrity. NHTSA recall 10V285000 affected 17,801 vehicles. Vehicles failed to meet federal safety standards due to excessive fuel leakage after crash testing, which could cause a fire. Dealers install a redesigned protector on the fuel filler inlet pipe at no charge.
  • Brake Booster Pump Assembly. NHTSA recall 13V235000 affected 87,060 vehicles. Nitrogen gas leaking into brake fluid from the brake booster pump reduces hydraulic pressure, possibly increasing stopping distances and crash risk. Dealers replace the brake booster pump assemblies free of charge.

Owners facing repeated brake system repairs, unresolved recall issues, or ongoing safety defects may have protections under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a specialized attorney could assist in evaluating potential claims.

there was a safety recall issued for this model for this year for this car. I took the car to someone and they told me there was a recall for this issue so I should take to the dealer. I took to the dealer in Chandler, they told me there was no open recalls. I called the Lexus customer service line, they told me to take the car to the place where they had originally done the recall work, at Bell Lexus. Even though they know this was from a recall they will not perform the work even though this is a known issue and safety recall on this car. this is the same combination as the recall and they will not even consider fixing it. ABS Braking System Pump with an abnormal leak of ACC Press. Under recall # DLD for the same ABS Brake Booster Pump failure a Lexus dealer repaired the system under recall notice in 2013. The same issue happened again in 2025 an ABS Brake Booster Pump failure rendering the car unsafe to drive with a defective braking system, an ABS light and Brake light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop which informed me the vehicle was unsafe to drive. I contacted the dealer who stated the repair in 2013 was on warrantied for one year. I then called Lexus corporation under Case # 250212001465 and spoke to several Lexus corporate consumer advocates in their resolution department, who essentially stated Lexus cannot assist with a failed ABS Brake Booster component as it was once repaired and the responsibility to repair the ABS brake system pump falls on me the customer. I informed Lexus this was not a broken headlight, this is a safety issue, an abilty to stop the car braking issue for us and others on the road as the car is unsafe to drive at any speed. Therfore, I request the NTSB assistance to resolve this matter.

SERVICE BRAKES

Lexus had a recall on certain 2010 HS250H cars for an issue where they have nitrogen gas leaking into brake fluid causing brake failure. My Vin number was not one of recalls however in August of 2023 they sent me a notice stating that if my car has this problem they will repair at no cost to me. Very expensive repair. That notice says they will repair until March 31 2024. It says if certain warning lights are not on , don't take it to get repaired. My car now has this problem and they are saying they won't repair it unless I pay for repair. I have 5 warning lights on and cruise control now won't work as well as they note that brakes could fell causing a collision. I can't afford the repair and I don't agree that they won't repair it. Under the recall there is no time limit and they would repair it today. To me they are verifying that my car was one that should be on recall since it's the same exact issue and they sent me letter verifying that my car was one with problem. Is there anything I can do?
