2017 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER EVOQUE Complaints and Recall Information
The 2017 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER EVOQUE has 3 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report sudden loss of power due to timing chain failure, air bag non-deployment in collisions, and gear shift malfunctions that cause the vehicle to become stranded.
Common Issues
- Timing chain failure. The timing chain can fail without warning causing sudden loss of power while driving on the highway, posing a safety risk.
- Air bag non-deployment. In a head-on collision at about 30,000 miles, the front passenger air bag failed to deploy despite impact, resulting in minor injuries.
- Gear shift malfunction. The gear shift mechanism does not rise from the console as expected, preventing gear selection and leaving the vehicle stranded until roadside assistance arrives.
Two recalls affect this model. They address defects in the air bag inflator module and the front suspension control arm fasteners. Both issues impact vehicle safety systems related to crash protection and steering.
Recalls
- Passenger air bag inflator (16V941000). About 550 vehicles are affected by a defect where the front passenger air bag inflator may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing deployment. This increases the risk of injury. The recall began February 20, 2017. Dealers replace the front passenger air bag free of charge.
- Front lower control arm fasteners (16V889000). Approximately 220 vehicles have faulty fasteners on the lower control arm that may fail due to an assembly error. Failure can cause separation of the steering knuckle, affecting vehicle handling and increasing crash risk. The recall started January 27, 2017. Dealers replace the hardware at no cost.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs related to these issues or unresolved recall defects may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting with an attorney specializing in lemon law could provide guidance on available remedies.

The timing chain went out, and it is a common problem with this same make and model of vehicle, and no recall has been issued. My safety was at risk because my car showed no warnings of breaking down, it was well maintained, and there was a manufacturing error that caused me to suddenly lose all power on a highway. I couldn’t make it to a safe area to pull over, and was stuck on the side of the highway for hours not understand why my car was not running
