2015 LAND ROVER LR4 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2015 LAND ROVER LR4 has 4 complaints and 6 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to the coolant flange outlet and coolant crossover housing. One owner described an engine that began making a loud clicking noise, followed by low coolant and oil alerts, and eventually white smoke and engine failure.

Common Issues

  • Coolant flange outlet leaks. Multiple complaints mention failure of the coolant flange outlet and crossover housing causing coolant loss.
  • Engine overheating. Reports indicate the engine overheats without warning signs such as leaks detected beforehand.
  • Engine noise. A loud clicking sound from the engine precedes subsequent mechanical failures.
  • White smoke emissions. White smoke appears on startup after the engine shows signs of distress.
  • Low oil and coolant warnings. Alerts occur after engine noise starts and before noticeable leaks are found.

Six recalls have been issued affecting various systems including the fuel system, engine components, wheels, and electronic stability control. These recalls address defects that risk vehicle safety and drivability.

Recalls

  • Wheel lug nuts. (NHTSA 15V092000) Affected 28 vehicles with lug nuts that may crack and detach, risking wheel separation and loss of control. Dealers replace lug nuts free. Recall started March 23, 2015.
  • Fuel outlet flange. (NHTSA 21V635000) Affected 111,746 vehicles due to potential fuel leaks from cracked fuel outlet flanges. Fuel leaks increase fire risk. Dealers replace the flange free. Notifications sent in 2021 and 2022.
  • Electronic stability control software. (NHTSA 15V214000) Affected 2,687 vehicles with ABS software errors disabling DSC, RSC, TC, and HDC systems, increasing crash risk. Dealers update software free. Recall began May 21, 2015.
  • Engine connecting rod bolts. (NHTSA 15V069000) Affected 2 vehicles where improperly torqued connecting rod bolts may cause engine seizure, increasing crash risk. Dealers replace engines free. Recall began February 27, 2015.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, serious safety defects, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney can help determine eligibility for relief.

ENGINE

I have a 2015 LR4 with 103k miles. Out of nowhere, engine started making a loud clicking noise. No warning lights, car up to this point had been driving perfectly. Then low coolant and oil signals came on the next day, but no signs of leaking. Added some oil and coolant to get it to a mechanic ( stopped driving it once the noise started). Upon next start up, plume of white smoke. Final verdict was an overheated engine and that it was done. I had pumps replaced 2 years ago, regular service and maintenance.
