2013 LAND ROVER LR4 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2013 LAND ROVER LR4 has 4 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to fuel system defects and transmission fluid leaks. Reports include fuel pump cracks after recall repairs, resulting in unsafe driving conditions and costly repairs.

Common Issues

  • Fuel pump cracking. Repairs from the 2022 recall addressing fuel tank flange assembly cracking failed to prevent further fuel pump cracks leading to fuel leakage and safety concerns.
  • Fuel odor and leaks. Drivers report persistent fuel odors and liquid fuel on the ground even after recall repairs, raising safety risks for drivers and passengers.
  • Malfunction indicator light. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminates, indicating ongoing engine or fuel system issues potentially linked to fuel leaks or pump failure.
  • Transmission oil cooler pipe leaks. Leaking transmission oil cooler pipes cause transmission wear and chassis corrosion. Repairs are costly, and the issue affects multiple LR4s and Range Rover Sport models from 2010-2013.

The 2013 LAND ROVER LR4 has four recalls affecting tire pressure monitoring, panoramic roof assembly, and the fuel system. Recalls relate to safety-critical systems including fuel delivery and visibility features.

Recalls

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Recall 14V618000 affects 28,037 vehicles due to the TPMS failing to learn sensor locations, which may prevent warning of low tire pressure and increase crash risk. Dealers update the Body Control Module software free of charge.
  • Panoramic roof assembly. Recall 15V386000 impacts 492 vehicles where incorrect primer used in adhesive may cause the roof to detach, raising crash risk. Dealers apply the correct primer free of charge.
  • Fuel outlet flange cracking. Recall 21V635000 covers 111,746 vehicles. The fuel outlet flange mounted on the fuel tank may crack causing fuel leaks that increase fire risk. Dealers replace the flange free of charge. Interim and owner notification letters were sent in 2021 and 2022.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs related to the fuel system or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state lemon law. Those facing ongoing safety defects or costly repairs should consider consulting an attorney specializing in lemon law protection.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Range Rover Sport and 2010-2016 LR4 vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 or 5.0L V8 engines. The fuel outlet flange mounted on the fuel tank may crack, possibly resulting in a fuel leak.

Risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

VISIBILITY:SUN/MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Land Rover LR4 vehicles manufactured August 15, 2012, to September 18, 2012. Due to the use of an incorrect primer, the panoramic roof adhesive may not adequately secure the roof assembly.

Risk: The insufficient bond may result in the panoramic roof assembly detaching from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2014 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport and 2013-2014 LR4 vehicles manufactured September 16, 2013, to June 30, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven. As a result, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate, despite the the tire pressures being within specification. Should one of the tires subsequently lose air pressure, the driver would not be notified of the change in air pressure.

Risk: If the TPMS light illuminates because the sensors cannot be located, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN

The transmission oil cooler pipes commonly leak on 2010-2013 LR4 and Range Rover Sport (LS) to the extent that a TSB (LTB00378NAS2) was issued on September 9th 2014 by JLR. The fluid leak causes undue wear on the transmission along with corrosion of the chasis. JLR in Alpharetta, GA wants to charge $3,100 dollars to replace the defective parts. I believe that this problem is much more common that JLR has previously represented in the model years mentioned above and that this should be reclassified as a recall as soon as possible.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The 2022 repair to address NHTSA Safety Recall Number: 21V-635 - Gasoline Fuel Tank Flange Assembly Cracking was inadequate and led to a fuel pump crack that we are now having to repair in January 2025, after a routine check indicated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. We transport three school-aged children in our vehicle and was told by a mechanic that the car was unsafe to drive and could blow up if we continued to drive it. My husband had the vehicle towed and contacted Land Rover, since we previously had it repaired and continued to experience the issues other drivers complained about even after the repair, including fuel odor, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp illuminating and liquid fuel on the ground. Land Rover indicated that the repair from 2022 was adequate and refused to remedy the fuel tank leak. The cost for the repair is $1700.
