2022 KEYSTONE COUGAR Complaints and Recall Information
The 2022 KEYSTONE COUGAR has 1 complaint and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to the structural integrity of the camper frame, specifically frame flex and possibly broken welds on frames manufactured by Lippert.
Common Issues
- Frame flex and weld failure. A bulge appears near the front of the camper, with inspections revealing frame flex and broken welds likely on Lippert-manufactured frames, affecting vehicle safety.
The vehicle has four recalls addressing components including emergency escape, tires, and recreational vehicle equipment. These recalls cover missing emergency exit windows, incorrect tires, structural weld issues in table/bed bases, and awning fabric defects.
Recalls
- Emergency exit window. (NHTSA Recall 23V169000) Affects 276 units from 2022-2023. Some trailers were manufactured without an emergency exit window, increasing injury risk during emergencies. Dealers will inspect and replace windows at no charge. Owner notifications began March 29, 2023.
- Tires. (NHTSA Recall 22V105000) Affects 118 fifth wheel travel trailers from 2022. Vehicles were equipped with Load Range D tires instead of the required Load Range E, risking overload and crashes. Dealers will inspect and replace tires for free. Owners notified beginning March 16, 2022.
- Table/bed base welds. (NHTSA Recall 22V383000) Impacts 764 2022 Cougar trailers with swing-up table/bed bases. Incomplete welds may cause unexpected dropping of table or bed, increasing injury risk. Dealers will replace the base free of charge. Notifications sent starting June 24, 2022.
- Electric awning fabric. (NHTSA Recall 22V604000) Includes 20,610 travel trailers from multiple Keystone brands, including Cougar. Welded seams on the awning fabric may separate, allowing the awning to fall or extend beyond control, causing injury risk. Dealers will repair or replace fabric at no cost. Owner letters mailed September 16, 2022.
Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved issues related to structural defects or multiple recalls may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting with an attorney who specializes in consumer protection and lemon law could be beneficial.

2022 KEYSTONE COUGAR
ID: 2091652STRUCTURE:BODY
There was a bulge showing near the front of the camper, dealer inspected and said there is frame flex, possibly broken welds on the frame, which is a common problem with the lippert manufactured frames. Model years directly before this year(2022) were recalled for the same problem. This seems to be a common issue for 2022 models as well but there still is no safety recall despite the inherent risk of them being on the road.
