2011 KEYSTONE COUGAR Complaints and Recall Information
The 2011 KEYSTONE COUGAR has 0 complaints and 10 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to equipment, wheels, electrical systems, trailer hitches, and power train components. No direct complaints were registered but the recall data highlights areas of concern involving safety and reliability.
The 2011 KEYSTONE COUGAR is subject to multiple recalls affecting various systems including the gas range oven, wheels, electrical circuit breakers, hitch couplers, axles, rear bumper, spare tire assembly, and fire extinguishers. These recalls address potential safety hazards such as gas leaks, wheel failure, electrical fires, trailer separation, reduced braking capacity, and malfunctioning fire extinguishers.
Recalls- Equipment - Gas Oven. NHTSA recall 10V478000 affects 5,459 vehicles. A fracture in the gas line delivering propane to the Atwood 35 Series range oven may cause leaks. A propane leak near an ignition source could cause fire or explosion. Dealers will isolate and pressure test the oven supply tube and replace any leaking tubes free of charge.
- Wheels - Steel Wheels. Recall 10V597000 involves 2,338 units with 15" x 6" white spoke or modular steel wheels. Inadequate weld penetration could cause wheel failure or loss, increasing crash risk. Keystone will replace the affected wheels at no cost to owners.
- Electrical System - Circuit Breakers. Recall 10V606000 covers 2,693 trailers with Siemens and Murray plug-in circuit breakers. The spring clip may fail, causing poor electrical connection, potential arcing, fire, or property damage. Dealers will inspect breakers and replace if necessary free of charge.
- Trailer Hitches - Couplers. Recall 11V002000 affects 1,086 trailers; Lippert hitch couplers lack proper indentation on the forward edge. This defect increases the risk of trailer separation from the hitch ball while towing. Owners must inspect and arrange for a free replacement if the indentation is missing.
- Axle Assembly - Brakes. Recall 11V094000 involves 469 trailers with axles installed backwards, reducing braking torque and shortening brake lining life. This diminishes braking capacity over time, raising injury and damage risk. Dealers will inspect and reverse axles as needed at no charge.
- Equipment/Structure - Rear Bumper and Spare Tire. Recall 12V355000 impacts 1,012 Cougar 26SAB and 29RES units. Metal fatigue in the rear bumper holding the spare tire may cause it to separate from the vehicle, risking injury or property damage. Dealers will install a reinforcement kit free of charge.
- Equipment - Fire Extinguishers. Recall 17V755000 covers over 1.2 million trailers including the 2011 Cougar. Kidde fire extinguishers may clog or require excessive force to activate, and the nozzle can detach, increasing injury and fire risk. Owners will be notified to obtain a free replacement from Kidde.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs, unresolved recall issues, or safety defects related to these recalls may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a consumer protection attorney specializing in lemon law could help clarify available options.

EQUIPMENT
Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling various 2003-2018 Crossroads, Dutchmen, and Keystone recreational trailers equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V755-5127.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
Risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

STRUCTURE:BODY:BUMPERS
Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Cougar 26SAB and 29RES recreational vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2009, through October 24, 2011. The rear bumper, which holds the spare tire assembly, may experience metal fatigue causing the spare tire to separate from the vehicle.
Risk: Over time, the bumper may fail and/or separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of personal injury and property damage.
2011 KEYSTONE COUGAR
469 vehicles affected
POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY
KEYSTONE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 COUGAR AND LAREDO TRAVEL TRAILERS. THE AXLES ARE INSTALLED BACKWARDS CAUSING A SLIGHT REDUCTION IN BRAKING TORQUE AND SHORTENED BRAKE LINING SERVICE LIFE.
Risk: OVER TIME DIMINISHED BRAKING CAPACITY COULD LEAD TO AN INCREASED RISK OF PROPERTY DAMAGE AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY.
2011 KEYSTONE COUGAR
1086 vehicles affected
TRAILER HITCHES
KEYSTONE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010-2011 COUGAR, LAREDO AND OUTBACK TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH LIPPERT COMPONENT HITCH COUPLERS FOR LACK OF INDENTATION ON THE FORWARD EDGE OF THE COUPLER.
Risk: IF THE COUPLER IS LACKING THE INDENT IT WILL LEAD TO AN INCREASED RISK OF TRAILER SEPARATION FROM THE HITCH BALL WHILE TOWING RESULTING IN PROPERTY DAMAGE AND/OR VEHICLE CRASH.
2011 KEYSTONE COUGAR
2693 vehicles affected
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS
KEYSTONE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 SPRINTER, COUGAR AND FUZION TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH SIEMENS AND MURRAY ONE INCH PLUG-IN CIRCUIT BREAKERS. THE "SPRING CLIP" PLUG-IN ASSEMBLY MAY BREAK OR FAIL TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT FORCE TO MAINTAIN A PROPER ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE PANEL BOARD.
Risk: THIS COULD LEAD TO EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURE, ARCING OR THERMAL DAMAGE AT THE CONNECTION POINT AND POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO THE PANEL BOARD'S ELECTRICAL INSULATION WHICH COULD LEAD TO FIRE, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR PERSONAL INJURY.
2011 KEYSTONE COUGAR
2338 vehicles affected
WHEELS
KEYSTONE IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH 15" X 6" WHITE SPOKE OR MODULAR DESIGN STEEL WHEELS WITH A SIX HOLE BOLT PATTERN. SOME OF THE WHEELS MAY HAVE INADEQUATE WELD PENETRATION BETWEEN THE OUTER RING AND THE CENTER PLATE DUE TO IMPROPER PLATE ALIGNMENT.
