Common Issues

  • Injector system malfunction. The engine pushes excess fuel into the particulate filter, causing constant regeneration attempts that may disrupt normal operation.

The vehicle is subject to 51 recalls affecting various critical systems such as steering, braking, electrical systems, lighting, and powertrain components. These recalls involve defects that present potential safety risks including loss of steering control, failure of safety systems, and improper lighting function. Most remedies involve inspections, replacements, or software updates provided free of charge by dealers.

Recalls

  • Steering gear assembly. (NHTSA Recall 24V044000) Approximately 45,887 trucks may have steering gears with fewer recirculating balls than required. This defect may cause loss of steering control, increasing crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace faulty parts at no cost.
  • Steering knuckle assemblies. (24V043000) Affects 68 trucks with improperly seated bearing journals preventing proper wheel hub installation. Oil leaks and possible axle spindle failure increase crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace assemblies free of charge.
  • Instrument cluster display. (25V569000) Around 13,908 trucks face failure of the 15-inch digital display to show warning lights or vehicle speed, violating FMVSS 101 and 121. This raises crash risk due to lack of critical information. Dealers will update software without charge.
  • Lighting control module software. (25V436000) Affects 56,260 trucks with malfunctioning exterior lights and unstable lift axles, causing insufficient road illumination and increased injury risk. Dealers will update vehicle software at no cost.
  • Advanced Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software. (24V915000) In 220,764 trucks, electrical noise may cause ECU malfunction, impairing safety features like ABS and Electronic Stability Control, increasing crash risk. Dealers will reprogram ECU software free of charge.
  • Automatic transmission gear shifter. (24V190000) Impacts 70,509 trucks where crimped connectors may cause loss of communication between shifter and transmission, disabling the vehicle after stops and increasing crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace shifter assemblies as needed.
  • Steering arm and tie rod fasteners. (24V908000) Affects 68 trucks with possible fastener failure in steering components, risking loss of steering control and crash. Dealers will install correctly torqued fasteners free of charge.
