Recalls
  • Parking brake air actuators. NHTSA Recall 14V810000 affects 1,623 vehicles. A diaphragm in the brake chamber may be improperly seated causing brake drag. This condition risks wheel end fires. Kenworth will inspect and replace brake chambers as necessary free of charge.
  • Diesel fuel filters. NHTSA Recall 14V486000 involves 2,045 vehicles with certain Fleetguard UFF-XT fuel filters that may separate from the nut plate, resulting in sudden engine stalls. This increases the risk of crashes. Filters will be replaced free of charge by dealers.
  • Hazard and daytime running lights. NHTSA Recall 15V458000 covers 12,551 vehicles. The daytime running lamps may override hazard warning lights when the brake pedal is applied more than two seconds, violating FMVSS No. 108. Dealers will update cab controller software free of charge to restore compliance.
  • Headlights and DRL override. Also under Recall 15V458000 affecting 12,551 trucks, hazard warning light function is overridden by daylight running lamps under certain brake conditions. Software updates will correct this safety issue.
  • Air brake reservoir tanks. NHTSA Recall 24V145000 affects 996 vehicles with air tanks that have insufficient volume, reducing braking performance and increasing crash risk. Dealers will install correct volume air tanks free of charge.
  • Windshield wiper motors. NHTSA Recall 15V271000 involves 104,807 vehicles where water intrusion may cause the intermittent wiper function to fail, impairing visibility. Corrosion could cause electrical shorts and fire risk. A remedy is under development and owners will be notified when repairs are available.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to safety defects may have rights under their state lemon law. Consulting with a consumer protection attorney can provide guidance.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:SUPPLY:RESERVOIR/TANK

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2009-2021 Kenworth C500, 2012-2021 Kenworth T440, 2009-2015 Kenworth T660, 2015-2024 Kenworth T680, 2008-2024 Kenworth T800, 2009-2020 Kenworth T370, 2013-2023 Kenworth T880, 2011-2016 Kenworth T470, 2023 Kenworth T480, 2021-2023 Kenworth T800B, and 2009-2019 Kenworth W900 vehicles. The air tanks have an insufficient volume of air for the brake system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

Risk: Insufficient air volume can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Kenworth T270, T370, T440, T470, C500, C540, C550, T660, T800, W900, and 963 trucks manufactured November 1, 2010, to April 6, 2015. In the affected trucks, water may leak into the wiper motor.

Risk: As water leaks in, the wiper may cease to function on the 'intermittent' setting, reducing the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the water may cause corrosion which, over time, may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Kenworth T440, T470, T660, T680, and T880 trucks manufactured January 14, 2010, to May 22, 2015, and equipped with HID Headlamps and the option for Daytime Running Lamps (DRL). The DRLs are required to deactivate when the hazard warning lights are activated, however, the DRLs on these vehicles override the hazard flashing functionality after the brake pedal is pushed for more than two seconds. Normal hazard flashing functionality returns once the service brake is released. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk: If the hazard warning lamps are overridden by the DRL, oncoming vehicles may fail to be warned, increasing the risk of a crash.
