- Multiple safety system failures. Recall 13V387000 covers 337 police motorcycles from 2009-2013 with improper installation of police accessories causing fuel leaks, reduced braking ability, and loss of electrical power leading to engine stalls. These defects heighten crash risks. Kawasaki arranged for factory personnel to repair affected bikes starting August 21, 2013.
- Fuel system gasoline leaks. Part of recall 13V387000 affecting 337 police motorcycles, improper police accessory installation can cause fuel leaks. This defect increases fire and crash dangers. Repairs were coordinated with affected departments by Kawasaki staff from August 2013.
- Electrical system wiring issues. Also included in recall 13V387000 affecting 337 motorcycles, the police wiring harness can chafe causing shorts and blowing the main fuse. This may cause the engine to stall and increase crash risk. Kawasaki provided repairs through factory-trained personnel.
- Expanded electrical fuse recall. Under recall 15V117000 affecting 194 police-modified motorcycles, fuse blowing and wiring chafing issues persist due to police accessory installation. These faults cause engine stalling and raise crash risk. Kawasaki notified departments and dispatched trained personnel for free repairs starting April 13, 2015.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs from safety defects or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state lemon laws. Consulting with a consumer protection attorney can provide clarity on next steps.
