2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Complaints and Recall Information
The 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE has 1 complaint and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to braking performance including abnormal noises, extended stopping distances, and warning lights. These problems often persist despite multiple repair attempts.
Common Issues- Abnormal brake noises. Clicking sounds occur when applying the brake pedal, which owners identify as unusual and concerning.
- Braking performance loss. Vehicles take longer to come to a stop and do not brake normally, putting safety at risk.
- ABS warning illumination. The ABS warning light activates unexpectedly, notably after driving over bumps.
- Recurring brake failure. Replacing calipers, rotors, and pads does not stop the problem from returning.
- Brake fluid leak. Leakage was noted around the rear passenger wheel well after adding brake fluid.
- Multiple diagnostics. Several independent mechanics have worked on the vehicle without resolving the issue.
- Dealer assessment incomplete. The dealership was contacted but did not complete diagnosis or repair at the time of report.
- High mileage failure. Problems were reported at approximately 260,000 miles, indicating potential wear-related components.
There are 4 recalls affecting the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, primarily concerning the air bag system and related control modules. These recalls address risks of unintended airbag deployment that could lead to injury or crashes.
Recalls- Air bag control module failure. NHTSA Recall 12V527000 affects 744,822 vehicles. A component failure may cause front airbags, side curtain airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners to deploy unexpectedly during operation. Chrysler will install a supplemental jumper harness free of charge. Owners are not advised to avoid driving or parking outside as no such advisory exists.
- Air bag electronic control module defect. NHTSA Recall 15V673000 involves 284,611 vehicles. Electrical interference beyond module tolerance can cause unintended deployment of front and side airbags or seatbelt pretensioners. Dealers will replace the air bag electronic control module and side impact sensors as needed at no cost. No driving or parking restrictions are indicated.
- Additional air bag control module replacement. NHTSA Recall 15V046000 covers 752,644 vehicles. Similar electrical noise issues can cause inadvertent airbag and seatbelt pretensioner deployment. Chrysler will replace the control module and sensors free of charge. This remedy overlaps with earlier recall campaigns and is strongly recommended to complete if pending. No do-not-drive instructions apply.
Owners affected by recurring brake issues or multiple unresolved safety recalls involving air bag deployment may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Those dealing with repeated repairs or persistent safety defects should consider consulting legal resources to understand their protections and options.
