The vehicle lights up a red wrench with a lightning bolt through it and then alerts to a "service hybrid electric vehicle system" message. This light stays on from either a few seconds to several minuets before turning off. There is no consistency as to when the warning illuminates. Every time it has come on has been at highway speeds. There is fear that the vehicle is going to lose power and/or propulsion while at a high speed. This feels like a danger to myself, my occupants, and others on the road.

ENGINE

The contact rented a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, smoke was emitting from under the hood and entered the vehicle through the A/C vents. Other drivers were also waving down the contact attempting to notify there was smoke. The contact pulled over to the side of and immediately exited the vehicle. Shortly after there was an explosion and the vehicle caught on fire. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact and his daughter did not sustain any injuries. None of the air bags deployed. The Fire and Police Departments were called. A police report was filed. The vehicle was consumed by the fire and destroyed. The vehicle was towed to an unknown location. The origin of the fire was the engine. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact notified the insurance company. The failure mileage was unknown.

On February 10, 2025 at approximately 4:45 EST, I was driving approximately 55MPH in the far left lane of a multi-lane highway when I received a notice that my hybrid propulsion system had malfunctioned. Upon receiving the notice, I immediately lost power/propulsion of my vehicle although the warning notice disappeared and the screen made it appear that the vehicle was operating. As I pressed the gas pedal, I noted that there was no power being provided to the powertrain and I had to progressively move to the right to find a safe spot to stop. Upon stopping, the warning re-appeared and informed me to put the car in park and turn it off and restart the vehicle. At the time of failure, the battery had a remaining charge of 10% and 3/4 tank of gas. Upon restart, the vehicle functioned as normal using the gasoline powered engine. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety was put at risk due to the loss of power in an area where most vehicles were operating near 55 MPH. The computer warning about the malfunction was confusing and it disappeared relatively quickly leading to significant confusion about how to operate the vehicle especially given that the dashboard returned to a normal state. The problem has not yet been reported to a dealer as they were closed for service. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure other than the short warning that appeared at the start of the loss of power and referenced above.

I was driving on a local road going 35-40 mph, when SUV shut off (no power). I maneuvered to the shoulder, and tried to restart, which it did. The hybrid was near the end of the charged battery mode, when this happened. I purchase the Grand Cherokee 4XE (new) in May 2024, and recently had the battery replaced due to a safety recall. This is the first time I lost power while driving. The car has been at the dealer’s for two days, and they have not found the problem. There was no error code, and they could not replicate the loss of power.

I have a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe with approx 15,600 miles.I had just finished pumping gas and started the vehicle. Put vehicle in drive and noticed the steering wheel would not turn. Turned car off and on and still nothing. Tried again this time power steering had returned. The check engine light is now on. Drove car home. Called dealership next morning and was told couldn’t get car in for three weeks. I feel this car is unsafe to drive!

My vehicle has two issues. One is the heating/cooling components. The car requires the heat to be set at above 75 to obtain any heat, most often it blows very cool or even cold air. It has been in the shop several times, for days at a time with no fix. Picked it up yesterday, they had it set at 77, blew cold air on the drive home, approx. 5 miles. The second and most alarming issue is the 95B recall for Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have had no vehicle for 3.5 months following the recall. Although it did not state no driving, I have felt unsafe doing so. I have had to park in my drive, less than 20 feet from my own home and others while it could take fire even while parked. 1/2/24 I had the prescribed 'fix', a computer reset with no battery replacement warranted. My vehicle has had two battery recalls and one other incident wherein it just completely stopped working. I am no longer able to transport my grand children whose carseats sit over the defective battery. I have had to cease running parts for our self owned business. I have had to pay for a vehicle to drive including gas I would not have needed to purchase. The dealership where purchased would not keep the vehicle on its lot during the recall, they would not provide an alternate vehicle therefore I have lost valuable work and family time due to safety of the car. They also did not want to inspect the car during this time. Also winter on the street parking is not allowed in my community so again I was forced to put myself and others at risk parking near homes. I am seeking total reimbursment as I cannot safely drive. I purchased the car because I wanted to save on gas. Instead I cannot any longer us e the car for my intended purposes. I would appreciate hearing back. I have done all the required work, making the required calls to the manufacturer, receiving never a call back or any assistance there. In 2023 after 2 weeks of leading this vehicle, the cars steering wheel froze and I was unable to drive it, I had to get the vehicle towed to the dealership. This is a major safety issue especially if you have children in the car, at the time I had my [XXX] in the vehicle, unable to drive it. Recently, temperatures have dropped significantly in November here in Massachusetts, and I had to drive with my toddler with no heat, in freezing temperatures and cover my child with a blanket. I was told by the dealership service staff that I needed to clean my car so the heat can work, after vacuuming my car I dropped it off again December and showed them for the 5th time that the car is blowing cold air, while the heating temperature is max and “hot”. In November, on a random day I arrived home and the car engine did not want to turn off after pressing the “off” button, we had to park the car far away from our home in fear that it will catch fire or start “having a mind of its own”, the vehicle decided to shut off on its own after an hour, I also shared this with the dealership.
