Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. The instrument cluster may fail resulting in a lack of activation of warning chimes, messages, and gauges.

Risk: Without the activation of warning chimes, messages, and gauges to provide vehicle information to the driver, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan and Jeep Compass, 2018 Dodge Journey, and 2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. The rear brake caliper pistons on these vehicles may have an insufficient coating causing gas pockets to form, potentially reducing rear brake performance.

Risk: A reduction of braking performance can increase the risk of a crash.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2018 Jeep Renegade, Compass and Grand Cherokee, RAM 1500 and Promaster, Fiat 500x, Dodge Journey, Challenger, Charger and Durango and Chrysler 300x vehicles, 2017-2018 Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles and 2018-2019 Jeep Cherokee and 2018 Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid vehicles. The powertrain control module may be equipped with a voltage regulator chip in the circuit board that may fail, causing a stall or a no start condition.

Risk: A vehicle stall can increase the risk of a crash.

The engines in these vehicles may be missing valve stem keepers, which can allow the valve to drop into the engine cylinder causing engine damage. These engines may also have a reversed camshaft cap that can damage the camshaft bearing causing camshaft failure.

Risk: Cylinder damage or camshaft failure can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

My "4WD needs service" warning badge has come on and I took it to the Jeep dealership and they ran said it was related to the active recall on the PTU. They ran a diagnosis on the PTU and verified it is bad. Stellantis will not fix the issue as they don't have a solution. It has been 8 months since the recall was announced. They want me to pay for the PTU ($3-4K) and when/if the solution is found I can submit for a potential reimbursement. This is my only vehicle and is unsafe to drive. I don't want to pay $4,000.00 out of my pocket for something they should be fixing.

Towed to mechanic and the transfer case has a large crack and the rear differential is bad. Repairs exceeding $4000. Also, on a regular basis the car loses power while driving. Driver has to pull over and restart car. This has not been fixed yet. Not sure what it is. Both issues are known issues for Jeep Cherokees and also this year Jeep. Yet there is no recall for this VIN number. The costs for fixing this and the dangers are unacceptable. Scared about the power loss and not sure what my mechanic will find. This car should be included in the recalls for both issues. I am super disappointed in Jeep. I filed a report with Jeep cares and will also be contacting the attorney general and a consumer attorney. These issues need to be included in the existing recalls for this VIN number. Also, mechanic had to get a refurbished transfer case because there is a backlog of new transfer cases. Clearly this is a big issue.

Rear differential was replaced on 8/2/23 under warranty due to banging and vibration . Since then I feel that problem on 8/2/23 was caused by the transfer case issues, slowing down the jeep would bang when coming to a stop, as if someone hit us from behind. Whet to the dealer today 9/3/25 and the told us we needed a new transfer case and other related issues.

My vehicle was showing signs of problems and has been diagnosed as needing a new PTU and rear differential. These are both well known issues of Recall ID 01C, but my VIN was not included in the recall. I was not aware of the issue and am concerned because this is a definite safety issue.

SERVICE BRAKES

While driving, the emergency brake system becomes enabled, which immediately causes the vehicle to stop and sometimes stall. This is so dangerous! My daughter has been in the middle of an intersection when the vehicle has done this, she's lucky she hasn't been struck and killed. We have not taken it to a dealership, however online reports confirm this problem, and that the NHTSA is investigating it. There is a warning light that comes on when this happens, it says BRAKE, and then it gives prompts on what you need to do to disable the emergency brake. This has happened about four times in just this past year (we purchased this vehicle used and have owned it for one year), with the most recent time happening over the weekend. I was reversing the vehicle to move it to another spot in our driveway. I reversed the vehicle, then put it in Drive, and it immediately stopped and flashed BRAKE and enabled the emergency parking brake, although I didn't even touch it! I had to then put my foot on the brake, push the emergency brake button, (I think twice), and then I was able to drive forward.

I was at a red light, the first in line, and when the light turned green, I pressed the gas, and heard a horrible thud(thinking someone hit me because my car rattled) and then the car would not move forward. Each time I pressed the gas, nothing moved. I put it into park and back to drive, nothing. I put it in reverse and nothing. I put it in manual, and nothing. I even switched to sand, snow, etc, and nothing. Every time I revved the motor it did not move. It remained on, and revved the engine, but would not move. I have never had any signals (sounds, emergency lights, etc) come on in the four years I've had this vehicle. It did have a recall on it and supposedly was repaired the day I purchased the vehicle. I had it repaired by the same place it was purchased (and where the recall was fixed) and the head service guy told me I needed to contact Mopar to let them know of this and they denied anything..My 2019 Jeep with (at the time of this) had only 96964 miles on it should not have had this occur! If I'd have been on the express way (instead of a very busy intersection at rush hour) this would've been catastrophic for me and others!

I was traveling on [XXX] , a major highway from PA to NJ, when my car had a catastrophic explosion, without any warning, while I was driving. The car was running smoothly prior to the explosion. I do not know how I made it to the shoulder because once there I could not move the vehicle. I was on the shoulder and tractor trailers driving 70-80 mph were coming toward me and crossing over the white line into the shoulder. I truly thought I was going to be hit and killed. I had the car towed to my mechanic who informed me that the explosion occurred in the Transfer Case which could have caused a crash injuring myself and other drivers on the highway. My mechanic suggested to have the vehicle towed to a Jeep dealership for further investigation and repairs knowing that Jeep Cherokees from 2017 - 2019 had failed Transfer Cases installed. The dealership has informed me that I am responsible for the parts and labor because the power train warranty ran out and my VIN number is not part of the recall. I have incurred towing expenses, rental car expenses and diagnosis fees and I am still without my vehicle. The quote I was given is for $3400.00 plus tax. This occurrence happened due to no fault of my own. I feel that the recall should be expanded to include my vehicle. There is no loaner care available to me from the dealer and now they cannot get the parts needed until 9/13. This car is low mileage, and this should never have happened. There is a pending recall on this vehicle for the past 8 months. There is still no remedy. My trade-in value has plummeted. I'm experiencing issues related to the PTU recall, and the dealership is telling me there is no known remedy. The vehicle randomly loses drive power / gains drive power. They know the PTU is what is likely wrong with the vehicle, but are refusing to fix the issue, because the recall doesn't have a remedy yet. How long does it take for a manufacturer to find a fix for this? Jeep should be responsible for paying / fixing this recall, yet they aren't because there isn't a remedy.

Received an initial letter about the recall in January 2025 -with no resolution offered.. warning light went on in the vehicle on August 24, 2025. Took a vehicle to dealership today, August 25th. Dealer has informed me there is no fix, no timeline on a fix, but told me they cannot release it back to me because it is not drivable. I now have no car a full-time job and no way to get there with no timeline of when this will be resolve.

Vehicle has a "4WD SVC" light on. I took it to the Jeep Service center to get it diagnosed and it turns out the vehicle will need a PTU (Power transfer unit). I was told that it is not covered under their 01C recall and that i would have to pay for the replacement which is almost $4000. I find it unfair since the vehicle is having the same symptoms stated in that recall and there is a class action lawsuit of this PTU failing since it is a very known issue. This vehicle is very unsafe to drive because it could just shut down on me randomly while driving. This will be the second time this vehicle will need the PTU replaced and i already paid them $400 for diagnosis.

My 2019 jeep Cherokee latitude only had 25000 miles on it when i bought it. Within a month the emergence break would come on by itself randomly while driving or beginning to accelerate from a parked or stopped state. Vehicle also can be parked completely level and it states the vehicle needs to be returned to park and restarted. Meanwhile all the lights come on on the dash and the shifter lights up red. Every single gear. It literally will not move unless you drift. It also will not start randomly, you will go out get in and for no reason it won’t turn over, yet the electrical systems will turn in fine, it’s getting power. In order for this to stop, you have to keep turning it on and off and apply the parking brake and the brake and than release them…. Over and over with intermittent breaks in between until it finally turns over. If you manage to get it started than it won’t shift properly. It stays in an extremely low gear unless you accelerate rapidly. And it won’t accelerate rapidly, your foot can be to the floor and it’s barely going until it gets into third and than just keeps rising never down shifting again until you coast to a stop and have to turn it off again and start the process over. On hills when this happens you will get hit and killed bc it won’t go in time for you to get out of oncoming traffic’s way. It has shut off while driving on the highway. Left me stranded blocking people in in parking lots. And almost gotten me and my family killed in several occasions. There are no similar circumstances in which it does this. It is comletely random and that makes it terrifying. I have 2 children that I am afraid to take anywhere now, and the jeep was bought to keep them safe and able to get anywhere in case of inclement weather etc. as if that’s not enough, the passenger seat floor is always wet. There is no leak coming in from doors or windows so I have no idea. And the radio and ac/heat turn on and off by themselves constantly

Over and over with intermittent breaks in between until it finally turns over. If you manage to get it started than it won’t shift properly. It stays in an extremely low gear unless you accelerate rapidly. And it won’t accelerate rapidly, your foot can be to the floor and it’s barely going until it gets into third and than just keeps rising never down shifting again until you coast to a stop and have to turn it off again and start the process over. On hills when this happens you will get hit and killed bc it won’t go in time for you to get out of oncoming traffic’s way. It has shut off while driving on the highway. Left me stranded blocking people in in parking lots. And almost gotten me and my family killed in several occasions. There are no similar circumstances in which it does this. The power transfer unit (PTU) failed, which is part of Recall 01C. A warning light came on, which prompted me to bring the vehicle to the dealership. On Friday, 8/1/2025, while driving my car, I lost power and the SVC4WD message came on. I took it to the dealer on Monday, 8/4/2025. The technician told me that I need a new PTU and Transfer Box unit in order to fix the problem. He told me there are no recalls for this specific vehicle. I looked on your web site and using my VIN, I was able to pull up information. See included documentation. I also called Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) and they told me there are no recalls for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. I was told that only "certain" cars are affected. My car has 39,000 miles driven. It is my understanding that this particular problem appears at 39K miles. It seems to me that my car should be included in the recall. The technician also informed me that it will take "months and months" to fix the problem and it will cost $3,000+. I am a single mom on a fixed income. Since late last year we have experienced intermittent shift slippage when going from just starting out to automatically shifting to next gear. This has happened many times. We never knew about any recall until we took vehicle to dealer ( Manahawkin Jeep ) for another issue with the oil filter housing leaking. The vehicle jerks forward and is not a smooth shift. The problem has not been inspected by the manufacturer or anyone else except the owner. No warnings or messages about issue.

Delamination of the console screen. Due to this delamination the vehicle has "ghost" called s.o.s. (911) and other people multiple times. it frequently changes radio stations (not a big deal) While driving on the highway has put the rear view camera on screen randomly. which has been a very scary distraction. It has also changed from a/c to heat (also not a big deal) The biggest safety issues are the dialing of 911 and the rear view camera turning on. This will happen even if I turn off the screen completely. I have brought this by a dealer. they say it is a common issue. I have also brought it by a private auto mechanic. They also say it is common, but that its not usually as bad. I first noticed the delamination when I purchased the vehicle at a dealer, I thought it was just the screen protector lifting. It has progressively gotten worse. There are multiple reports on this when i have googled the issue. There have been multiple times this has happened. I will put the most recent of dates, because that was the worst, and I haven't driven it since, since I'm afraid of having an accident.

Their is a chirping sound when making a low speed (15 MPH or so) turn more prominent when making turn up a hill. Sounds can also sometimes be replicated when letting off the accelerator and getting back on it again which is why I believe may be a transmission issue. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? UNKNOWN Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? It has not yet been reported. No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee, on August 6th around 545AM, while on Highway 70E In Maryland, my Transfer Case completely seperated itself (Per Repair Shop). I immediately pulled over, there was lots of smoke. Roadside Assistance towed my Vehicle to repair shop. Repair Shop and Jeep Dealership have told me that the Transfer Case won't be in for approximately 2 Months, due to the Large Quantity on Order for the 2019 Jeep Recall, however my VIN was not on this Recall and clearly this is a known issue. Since this is a known issue, and so many being on Order, why is my VIN not apart of the recall and since it just completely separated causing a huge sudden safety issue, what needs to be done to add this to the Recall?

My car started making a grinding noise when making a sharp right hand turn. I took this to a garage and was told the PTU is faulty. I have since found out there was a recall for this on Jeeps manufactured until Feb of 2019. Mine was manufactured in March of 2019 and has the same issue as in the recall. If possible, please look into expanding the dates of manufacture for this recall as I know of 2 other Jeep Cherokees one of which was manufactured the same time as mine that have this same issue.

The Power Transfer Unit and Transfer Case Assembly failed, it is currently available for inspection. The vehicle experienced unexpected loss of motive power at highway speed, additionally there was a noticeable front-end vibration and resulting dangerous change in drive quality. Finally, there was a loss of park function. The vehicle problem was confirmed at the dealer and is currently waiting a complete replacement of the Transfer Case and Power Transfer Unit. There was no warning prior to the problem, the Service 4WD warning lamp did not illuminate until approximately 1 week after the problem. Immediately after the initial front-end vibration and loss of power I took the vehicle to a mechanic, and they couldn't replicate the issue. It was determined the brake pads could have caused the vibration. Upon the second incident and when the service 4WD light came on I took the vehicle to the dealer where the service department determined it was the transfer case and PTU.

After an accident occurred the drivers seat moved forward. The incident was a minor collision. During the repair of the vehicle, the body shop stated the seat could not be fixed. Drivers seat may not be moved forward or back now, making the vehicle unsafe to drive for certain people.

I’m reporting a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4. I recently took the vehicle in for inspection after noticing performance issues, and it was diagnosed with a failing PTU. After researching this problem, I found that Jeep has issued a recall for PTU issues on certain 2014–2019 Cherokees, but my vehicle is not included in that recall. This is frustrating because I’m experiencing the same exact issues described by those whose vehicles were recalled—loss of power to the wheels, difficulty accelerating, and major safety concerns when driving. My Jeep has around 90,000 miles and has been well cared for with no prior major mechanical problems. This is the first significant issue I’ve had, and it’s a serious one. It’s clear this problem is not isolated to just the VINs currently covered under the recall. Jeep’s response so far has been to deny responsibility based on recall limitations—even though the defect is clearly present in my vehicle. I believe more owners are going to experience this same failure if their vehicles haven’t already, and they’re being left to pay for something that should be covered. I’m asking the NHTSA to investigate whether the scope of this recall needs to be expanded. Despite my repeated efforts, I have received no meaningful support or communication from Stellantis. Here are the details: Recall Status: The vehicle is subject to an open recall (issued in January 2025), for which a remedy is still unavailable. Dealership Diagnosis: On or around July 15, 2025, I took my vehicle to a certified Jeep dealership due to warning messages and irregular driving behavior. The dealership confirmed the vehicle is exhibiting symptoms directly associated with the recall and advised me to park the vehicle immediately for safety reasons. Stellantis Communication Breakdown: I contacted Stellantis on July 15, 2025, and was informed a case manager would reach out. As of today, I have received no follow-up communication. When I attempt to call, I am either disconnected or transferred to a voicemail with no response. There is no direct way to reach the case manager, and I am forced to call repeatedly with no resolution. Impact on My Life: I have been without a vehicle since July 15. I rely on my car to get to work, transport my children, and attend medical appointments. I am still responsible for monthly car payments and insurance on a vehicle that I cannot safely operate. Given the safety risk and financial burden, I am formally requesting immediate assistance in the form of a loaner vehicle or rental coverage until a recall remedy is available and the vehicle is repaired.

I was driving one day and stopped at a stop light. I go to accelerate as the light changes, the vehicle moves forward a little then stops moving. The battery stayed on but it would no longer move or rev. So I was left stranded in the middle of the stop light. Thankfully a cop came by and helped me push to a safer spot. I then had to have the vehicle towed to the nearest pepBoys. After their initial inspection they were thinking it was a transmission issue but they do not work on them there so I then had to get it towed again to my house until I could figure out what I should do. After my own investigation then later confirming with the jeep dealership, we’ve determined the symptoms are related to the defective part. I’ve called several times to the manufacturer and recall team and both can only offer an apology and that nobody knows anything right now. Thanfully the dealership on their own offered me a loaner vehicle. But the manufacturer isn’t proving much assistance. I still owe on paying this jeep so this has not only put my safety at risk but also is impacting me finally and trying to make a living. How can I pay for a vehicle that doesn’t work and nobody knows how they will fix it.. This is ridiculous and something needs to happen.

They still don’t have the part to repair it - they claim verbally at the dealership and via phone @ Mopar that there’s no risk but that’s not what the recall notice says. There is a recall for the vehicle where the repair description states that if a PTU failure occurs it will be replaced by FCA US. The PTU damage has been confirmed by an independent service center and the dealership. The dealership currently has our vehicle and has stated that we can either drive it until it completely fails (which according to their recall letter states: "A loss of drive power can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of PARK function can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning and/or injury to others outside the vehicle.") or we pay $3500 to have it replaced. I have been told at this time a part is not available for the snap ring/seal issue but the recall states they will replace a damaged PTU. I have contacted Stellantis and they have told us they can reimburse us up to $50.00/day for a rental car until we are able to have the recalled part fixed. The PTU is not the recall but will be replaced if it is damaged. Telling us we could just drive it until it completely fails is completely unacceptable and showing no concern for the safety of their customers. The recall has been open for 6 months. At what point will they begin honoring the PTU replacements.

I had "service 4wd" error message appear last month and brought it into Jeep dealership for diagnostics. I was told the Power Transfer Unit is bad, the same issue has been recalled in other Jeeps but my VIN number is supposedly not impacted. I was told it would be $3650 fix that is not covered by recall, but vehicle is safe to drive in meantime. Yesterday while driving, the car suddenly shut off mid drive and shook and made noises with a new neutral 4wd error mssg and engine light on. Thank goodness the Jeep was not far from home and was not on a high traffic or mph road as that could have had deadly consequences.It took pushing it to get it back home. Jeep corporate is still refusing to add my Jeep to the recall.

I received notification stating I have a recall on my car. I never got a letter. A SRV4WD error code came up on my dash recently. I took it to my mechanic who said he can't do it, he said it's a recall. So I called the Jeep Dealership and they said it's not. So I took it to another mechanic who said it's a recall and sent me to a Transmission Shop. This shop said it's a recall and they don't have the fix and go to Jeep. So I went to the Jeep Dealer again and they said call Jeep Corp, you're not on the list. From here I called Jeep Customer Care who sent me to Jeep Recall Dept where I was on the phone over 2.5 hours before getting a supervisor. He gave me a reference code and told me to go to a Jeep dealer and if I had the codes the dealership could put me on the list. So I did what I was told. I have the codes on my vehicle and the dealership said they can't do anything? So I called Jeep back again, another long call, and spoke to 3 more people the Josh, a Supervisor in the recall dept. I told him the last supervisor gave me a reference number and said If my codes were on the vehicle I would be added to the list. I understand Vehicle specific. I worked at GM AND For in Engineering and on the floor as a manufacturing advisor. These are not Plant Specific parts. The tag associated with a vehicle shows sets, radio, color, etc, we would fly in parts from other plants all the time. My vehicle should be part of the recall 01C for the PTU defect as this is a safety concern. Josh said I should follow up with the nhtsa website as it goes to their engineering department. I've spent a lot of time, and hundreds of dollars on ppl reading my codes. I hop I can get this resolved now. Ref#[XXX] which is probably going to close and expire before anyone reads this. My codes on the Jeep are 1) PTU Lost Communication with DCTM (U1203-00) and 2) PTU Motor Component Blocked (C14A7-97). I've been told these are part of the recall by 5 mechanics now. They indicated that there is an active recall on this part and that it should be taken to a Jeep Service Center. Jeep Service Center confirmed that it is indeed a PDU issue and that there is an active recall on this part. This serial number vehicle, however, is not covered by the recall. As this is the same part and symptoms, as well as year and make of auto, this jeep's serial number should be included in the recall. Please update your records to include this jeep in the recall. As of now, the Jeep has been awaiting backordered parts for 1 month, with no projected delivery date. The projected repair costs are $3800. Thank You

The rear differential housing is peeling apart and leaking out the fluid. It is clearly a defect that is shown widely on the internet affecting many other owners of this vehicle. Clearly there is a danger of the drive train locking up and can lead to accident. Talked with jeep they do not want to help.

Drive shaft busted at approximately 54, 900 miles. Was explained to me by my mechanic how bad this was, and that this could have been gravely injurious to me and others, and that I got lucky. Approximately one month later the air compressor went. The 4WD service light comes on, which suggests a drivetrain problem, as well, though could be an electrical issue. Both repairs were costly. This is unacceptable for a car under or around 55,000 miles and is well-maintained.

Vehicle power train unit was recalled 01/23/2025 for failing parts, however, no parts are available for a fix, Jeep/FCA are not aware when the parts will be available and/or when the recall will be completed. The failure of the PTU can cause dangerous, if not fatal results, including a lower of drive power, a vehicle crash, a loss of park function, and even death. The PTU is recalled, however, I have also already replaced it once and paid out of pocket.

Grinding/binding when backing up or turning the vehicle. Vehicle was taken to dealership 12/28/2023 where I was charged 306.00 to diagnose the issue. Estimate to repair was 4291.66 on a vehicle that had 23,823 miles on it. Went to 3 independent mechanics for estimates and none would touch the vehicle because Jeep would not release the codes for software or provide information for a fix. 01C/NHTSA 25V-011 recall notice then received 2/2025 with NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. Registered for recall and signed up for notifications when parts are available and still waiting as of July 3, 2025. Manufacturer has failed to provide timely repairs of my vehicle which is now slow to accelerate on the highway, noise is louder, binding is worse on turning and backup. Vehicle is useless to drive any distance away from home. Independent mechanics are vocal about how Jeep should be ashamed of their tactics. Need my car fixed or replaced at this point. Total failure of manufacturer. Will submit receipts for reimbursement of diagnostics costs from Jeep dealership also.

The rear differential developed a crack along the outer edge, resulting in a peeling effect along the edge of the unit resulting in fluid loss. We were informed by our dealer (who discovered the issue) that the part needs to be replaced to prevent full failure of the part and a catastrophic event on the road. I called Jeep to seek financial assistance and was told to get an official diagnosis from the dealer, ($180) which I paid for, in order to submit my claim to Jeep and request for reimbursement of approximately $4,200 for replacement part, labor and required wheel alignment. I submitted to Jeep the official dealer diagnosis and receipts for repair. There were no warning lamps or symptoms other than the fluid loss and visual cracks on the differential housing. We were informed by the dealer that they have experienced and repaired one other vehicle with the exact problem and that this is a common and known problem on specific model year Jeep Cherokees. I paid out of pocket for the repair, as we could not afford the 3-6 month time wait for the dealer to resolve financial assistance for the replacement. Note - Jeep Care asked me to submit documents directly to them regarding my claim and assigned CASE number-93372499. Which I did. They then responded and advised I contact my dealer for financial assistance. Which I did. The dear contacted Stellantis and then responded that since I prepaid for the repair, no financial assistance will be given. I then reached out the Wisconsin Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Protection to contact Stelantis on my behalf. They contacted Stellantis, and received a reply that since I am out of warranty, I will receive no financial assistance. So, Stellantis provided two different answers to my request. Informing the dealer since I prepaid, I will receive nothing, and informing Wisconsin that since I am out of warranty, I will receive nothing. Two different answers to the same request.

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee, which is currently experiencing a Power Transfer Unit failure. My Service 4WD light came on, and the vehicle is exhibiting the same symptoms as those covered under several PTU-related recalls, including Recall W47 and Recall 01C.

The SVC 4WD light came on. Took it to dealer and was told I need to pay $4,000 out of pocket to get the ptu replaced. I’ve read articles stating that my car should have a recall on it but when I search my vin… nothing comes up. Could result in complete loss of control, or car can’t disengage from parking brake when seated.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The cars start/stop feature hardly works, and it has just stalled right after the start/stop was engaged and then gave me a message saying “start/stop required” and then was in drive but was rolling backwards and wouldn’t start and then when it finally did start it was a sputtering mess. The start/stop feature consistently struggles to work.

A grinding noise came from under the vehicle and it began handling differently. A local garage looked and found the rear differential/axles/propeller shaft loose and making internal noises. They referred me to the dealer. A month to get in. I tried a reman, but parts are backordered I am told because these are failing everywhere. The vehicle is unsafe and now the dealer says September at the earliest, $1,000 plus labor, parts cost unknown.

Jeep sent out a safety recall (01c) concerning two speed power transfer unit. In early 2025. I had failure of my PTU in early 2024 for which I paid for the repair DOS 5/24/2024. I continue to have issues with the PTU. Per the recall notice Jeep advised that I would be reimbursed the cost of prior repairs within 60 days of submitting my request. I submitted on 4/11, on follow-up I was told they did not get my request and resubmitted on 5/8. I spoke with Ian on 5/8 and was told to expect reimbursement in 60 days. On 5/10 I received an email that Jeep would not honor reimbursement until a repair remedy was available. 6/18 was informed that a repair remedy still is not available. Request assistance on getting reimbursement and re-repair of PTU.

SVC 4WD light came on, 4WD system overheated. Transmission was damaged, had to pay to rebuild entire transmission, now transfer case is needing a replacement. Got codes C1472-92 and C1477-4B when we ran the scanner. There is a recall out right now for the PTU and transfer case issue but no solution. I need assistance in replacing Transfer Case. Car died out on me in the middle of rush hour traffic on the highway. 2 cars almost hit me but they missed me. Had to wait until the car turned on again and drove straight to the shop.

There is still no remedy for current recall on my jeep. This is my only vehicle and I have a young child. How am I supposed to feel safe driving to even just the grocery store for basic needs when there is an ongoing safety recall. I'm just at a loss of what to do.

While driving the vehicle, I heard a loud clunk, and it continued as I drove. Luckily, I was driving in town. I had to slow down and took the vehicle straight home and then took it to the dealership when I could get an appointment. The dealership examined the vehicle and determined the noise was coming from the transfer case and internal gear failure. I was told it was not drivable until this was fixed. There were no warning identifiers before this happened.

The 4WD light came in November 2024. When taken to the dealer I was told it was probably the power transfer unit as they have been replacing a lot of them. And upon inspection it was the PTU. This problem was verified as being common and a recall issued shortly after my vehicle got a new PTU. My VIN is not under the recall and I am being told there is nothing they can do. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that my vehicle has the same defect the others have and I think they need to look broader at the vehicles included in the recall. In May 2025 (just 6 months later), the rear differential went out with no warning or lights at all. There was a noise and by the time we got it to repair shop they said they don’t know how we even got it there as the rear differential exploded. This could have been a very dangerous situation. The rear differential goes hand in hand with the power transfer unit so it is very probable this happened due to the faulty PTU. Please help get JEEP to acknowledge the problem is a wider scope then initially thought so when they have a fix my vehicle can be included.

The system that failed is the power train. More specifically, the PTU or (Power Transfer Unit) has failed twice. The first time the failure happened, the car had 70,000 miles on the odometer. The Issue presented itself as a “SVC 4WD” warning light on the instrument cluster, followed by a “4-wheel drive system unavailable” annunciation on the instrument cluster. There was a clear loss of power as a result, Sluggish response of the accelerator and shifting of gears in drive, loss of fuel economy. The issue was confirmed by the dealer. The dealer indicated there was a failure of the PTU, where its motor was locking up and PTU systems failure. The car was still under power train warranty at the time and was repaired - PTU was replaced — After having the problem repaired and faulty PTU system replaced in March 2022 under power train warranty at 70,000 miles, the problem has come back. The problem is identical to the first time. The car currently has approximately 140,000 miles on the odometer, 70,000 miles since the PTU was replaced. Once again, I have a “SVC 4WD” light and “4-wheel drive unavailable” annunciation on the instrument cluster. I brought the car to the dealer and was informed the service code was for the same issue as before, faulty PTU and PTU motor locking up. Loss of power, sluggishness shifting and in acceleration. The diagnosis is to replace the PTU This is two full PTU failures, each at 70,000 miles usage on the odometer at the time of failure. Loss of drive power and 4-wheel drive capability present a clear safety risk, entering the freeway causing a danger to myself and others with sluggish acceleration, or driving in inclement weather conditions where 4-wheel drive is necessary. Problem has been verified by the dealer on multiple occasions. I invite the full inspection of the vehicle which is in near new condition with 140,000 miles. After about 3 seconds, all of the lights went out except for the check engine and the battery light. The speedometer and the RPMs immediately dropped to 0, but the vehicle was still moving. I was on a road with no shoulder and traffic behind me and I had to pull over in someone's yard to get out of the way of the traffic. That was very scary and could have killed me if I had been on the interstate or a busier highway. When I was able to safely pull off the main road, I put it in park, and it cranked right up and the dash lights went away. I am having to put it in the shop because I am too scared to drive it anymore. This problem really needs to be addressed as it is all over the internet. There are a LOT of consumers dealing with this same issue.

It wasn't until I attempted to get my car serviced at Gettel the first time it malfunctioned that I learned it had been brought to their service department numerous times before it even reached 100 miles. They refused to work on it because the warranty had JUST expired recently, not even a whole year after buying the car (of course) and handed me a piece of paper with the recalls and services regarding the stop/start system. At this point I had to just repair it myself. Fast forward to the second time it malfunctioned: I was in traffic and preparing to slow down to turn when the wheels, brakes, and steering locked up, parking brake turned on and the whole car shut off causing a small collision. The other driver understood what happened and claimed the same thing happened to his wife, therefore he hates stop/start vehicles. He made me promise to never buy another electrical car, charged it to the game and drove away. The other driver understood what happened and claimed the same thing happened to his wife, therefore he hates stop/start vehicles. He made me promise to never buy another electrical car, charged it to the game and drove away. Fast forward again to currently, now the third time my car broke down: While sitting at a light, it was still running, but as I lifted my foot from the brake pedal the car shut down. There was no indication of anything wrong with the car (S.N. none of the lights on the dash have EVER lit up since I bought it). I contacted Gettel via Google review and NOW they want to do something about this death trap they sold me because I made my situation public. P.S. When I search my VIN# on this site, a completely different car pops up?

The degradation presented a safety issue as it was very close to failing by the time it was detected. This same issue also happened to my father in law who also has a 2019 jeep limited. The current recall does not cover his jeep either. Multiple body shops stated that they had never seen anything like it in cars with such low mileage.

Purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk in November of 2022. December 29, 2023 it would not go into gear. Towed to local repair shop was told it was the PTU. Quote to fix was $3,250 but part was on backorder. Called Jeep customer service that same day and was told vehicle was past warranty by two months and they wouldn't be able to do anything. After three months of calling Jeep Customer Service, telling them each time I called where the vehicle was I was told that if it had been at a certified Jeep dealership they would have been able to help. A supervisor told me they dropped the ball, apologized and said they would heavily "coach" their employees for future calls like this. Still wouldn't guarantee any assistance but advised me to tow it to a Jeep dealership and they may be able to help. Finally get it towed, get a PTU put in only to receive a recall letter that the "new part" is still defective and can possible cause the vehicle to crash. This has been since January. I submitted a reimbursement for what I paid to have the first PTU put in but it was denied by Jeep saying because it was already a faulty PTU they couldn't reimburse me. I am still getting a check engine light, the auto start/stop light comes on and the vehicle stalls repeatedly. Both the independent repair shop and certified Jeep dealership confirmed that it is a faulty PTU unit that needs replaced.

My Service AWD light came on (stayed on) in January 2025. Prior to the steady light, it came on and off randomly. Originally, I did not notice any change in driving. I took it to the Jeep Dealer once the service light was steady and was informed the PTU has internal failure, and the part was on back order until March. I had to pay a diagnostic fee because I could not wait for the part to be available and needed my car, so I took it back. This was after a week of them holding the car and me constantly following up before they told me it was back ordered. I attempted to try another Jeep repair shop, they too confirm internal failure, but said the part is on back order and could not tell me when the part would be available. I am noticing that the car tends to pull to one side especially when turning, and while on local streets. After checking the NHTSA website I realize this problem (with the PTU) was recalled back in January for the same year and model as my car, but my car has not specifically been identified with this issue. I have less than 40,000 miles on my car. I want to have this issue resolved as soon as possible, but keep running into issues on finding a location that can get this part. I have lost days of using my car, and have taken off from work trying to get this issue resolved. Before this causes further issues, I want to get this resolved asap.

Took the vehicle for an oil change at the dealership and they did a vehicle inspection as well. The service 4 wheel drive light had been popping up on the dash as well as a message 4 wheel drive system unavailable. They said the rear differential or ptu had to be replaced and would cost 5 grand. Took it to a mechanic and he also said the ptu was bad and is coming up with a qoute for me as well.

About 2 weeks after the extended warranty expired on my 2019 Cherokee I began to notice the Service 4 wheel drive message pop up on my dash. I took the vehicle to the dealership and was told that the PTU was faulty and that it would be $2200 to repair. I have now gone nearly 3 years without repair and still very much feed that this is a defect that should be repaired by Jeep on all Cherokees that were manufactured around the same time as mine.

The service 4wd light went on. It was diagnosed as a faulty power transfer unit. There is a recall for my make , model and year but not my vin#.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact owned a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact parked the vehicle and went inside a restaurant for approximately 30 minutes. Upon returning to the vehicle, the contact opened the front driver’s side door as black smoke poured out of the vehicle. The contact stated that all four windows were covered with black soot. The windshield was cracked. The heater vents and ignition had melted and had fallen to the floor. The dashboard and instrument panel were severely burned with several wires exposed because the contact was able to see inside the dashboard. The authorities were called, but no assistance was provided because there was no active fire. A Police report was filed over the phone. No injuries or property damage were reported. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed by the Insurance provider to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was later deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle remained with the Insurance provider. The failure mileage was approximately 181,000.

We were notified earlier this year regarding recall number 25V-011. When we checked then, a repair was being investigated. It has been several months and the recall is still categorized as "Recall incomplete, remedy not yet available." We also tried to identify with the local dealer the possible severity of the failure but could not get a definite answer. According to the recall, the fault could cause " an unexpected loss of motive power or loss of PARK function while stationary" with no further explanation. The risk is listed as "a vehicle crash without prior warning". Would the loss of motive power be the simple failure to transfer the engine power to the wheels? Or more severe option of one or more drive shafts becoming disconnected and causing the vehicle to roll when it contacts the road? If so, the vehicle is not safe to be driven at highway speeds. The local dealer was unwilling to escalate our concerns or provide any assurance of safe operation on the highway. So far, we have not noticed any issues related to the recall but have not driven significantly outside the local community.

PTU system was faulty and needed to be replaced. There is currently a recall on this issue with 2019 Jeep Cherokees, but Jeep informed me that my VIN was not associated with this recall. Even though I personally paid to have the issue fixed 3 weeks before the recall.

Vehicle turned off on highway while in drive. Would not start again after this happened and was only five years old. This created a significant safety risk of the veg I leg stopping on the highway. Due to this insurance would not cover, and vehicle was returned to bank. Was assessed at a dealership stating potentially could be repaired costing more than the value of vehicle. We became aware of a pending recall of the following issue that describes what occurred. “The power transfer unit (PTU) may become damaged and disengage the transmission and differential, resulting in a loss of drive power and/or loss of park function.”

The screen flashed a 4WD alert, and then shut off / went completely black. I could not accelerate, I could not turn the wheel at all as it locked up, and once the car finally stopped, I had to keep the break pressed because it would not shift into park. it wouldn't move forward but i was afraid if i let my foot off, it would randomly start again. A truck behind me nearly crashed into the back of my car which would have killed me. I quickly had to pull off to the right in the shoulder as my car came to a dead stop. My car was towed by AAA and brought to the nearest mechanic, as that is the only way they will tow a car. I was told the engine is shot. I have 40,000 miles on my 2019 car. this is completely unacceptable. I know there is a recall for EXACTLY what happened to my car on THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL CAR, but apparently my VIN is not included in the recall. I'm out $13,000 that I owe on this car now and have no options at all financially.

The message "Service 4WD" was displayed. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, and then resumed driving. The vehicle was taken the dealer, where it was diagnosed with internal PTU failure caused by the PTU motor blockage. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The manufacturer informed the contact that the VIN could be included in a related recall in the future. The vehicle was repaired. The contact later became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that he could be reimbursed for the previous repairs after the dealer had confirmed that the failure was related to the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 145,591.

The svc 4wd light stays on and the power transfer unit makes a horrible noise. It is the same symptoms as the recall of the 2017-2019s, but somehow, my car does not fall under the recall. The car only has 52521 miles on it and is treated very well. There is no reason that this should have broke.

STEERING

I bought a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited used on July 30, 2024. Through the rest of the year I experienced a short sharp sudden pull from the steering wheel to the right and left. This happens frequently, several times in every drive. I had tires replaces and suspension balanced on March 5, 2025. This did not change the issue. When driving, the vehicle pulls left or right randomly especially at higher speeds. It is scary to be on highway and suddenly be pulled toward another lane. I have no open recalls and my mechanic can not locate the problem. I am very concerned. It is not safe so I do not travel far because of unsolved situation. Please provide a means to solve this 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited V6 issue

Drive shaft is broken completely and needs replaced. I first heard the cleaning while driving and then took it for inspection. My splines have damage as well.

Started car prior to leaving house. When entering car, placed car into run mode. Released parking brake and placed into drive. Service 4WD light came on with. When pulling out of driveway, I made a left turn which the car made a clunk noise in the front end. When driving a little further I topped the hill only doing about 15 mph. Once accelerating down the hill the car shifted and made a loud grinding noise. This prevented the car from traveling any faster. This also resulted in a needed emergency pull over on back road with no shoulder. Car was then parked, turned off for about 2 minutes in traffic. At that point car was restarted with no Service light. I began to accelerate and noise went away. Further driving brought light back on and off but no noise at this time. I have a concern this could happen at highway speeds resulting in a unessarcery car accident. There seems to be a high fail rate with these cars and the PTU. I would highly recommend extending the safety recall to all Jeeps with this brand PTU.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

PTU for this car, with no light or warning on the dashboard, car began to make a cranking clicking noise and began to smoke from the rear exhaust, car lost steering capability for the brief moment and fellow driver alerted me that my car was on fire below. Car immediately pulled to the side, i never lost power. at mechanic shop, appears that the PTU blew and oil flew all over the bottom of the car which then ignited causing car fire, appears to have damaged dry shaft, PTU blown into literal pieces and Rear differential all damaged. Car was initially serviced and was told that part was on back order with no signal or conversation that it was unsafe to drive, yet appears that is not the case. other jeeps 2018-2019 have a similar recall on PTUs and i dont know why this model does not

When driving to work a popping/clunking sound was noticed from under the vehicle. Coasted to a stop, Jeep wouldn't move when in drive like there was no power. No service lights came on. Stuck on the side of the road with cars driving by. Since the Jeep wouldn't move it was difficult to ensure I was completely off the road. Called AAA, towed Jeep to repair shop where a catastrophic failure of the rear differential and transfer case was noted. We were in the process of trading the Jeep in due to multiple issues noted during the last service inspection, including corrosion near snap ring of rear differential.

While diving on interstate 435 at highway speed the PTU failed on the vehicle while crossing a long bridge with no significant shoulder to pull over to. Driver had to coast the vehicle to the end of the bridge creating a safety hazard due to reduced speed, eventually pulling over on to shoulder after the bridge. Vehicle would not move and actually started to roll backward while in gear. The safety of the driver and all others traveling on the road behind the vehicle were put at risk due to the vehicle becoming inoperable at interstate speeds. Power Transfer Unit failed and is still in place on vehicle awaiting repair. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and remains there awaiting repair. The PTU was inspected by a mechanic at the dealership. There was no warning prior to the failure of the part.

My vehicle yesterday indicated a warning light on the dashboard SVC 4WD. I see there is a recall for this issue which covers my year but when I enter my VIN number it indicates there are no recalls associated with it.

My panoramic sunroof just shattered without reason.i wasn't close enough to any vehicle for a rock or debris to be the issue I was driving a steady speed on the freeway when it happen. The glass that broke seemed to have broke outward not inward.

See that there is a voluntary recall, to start, my first occasion, I was driving down a busy highway with my child in the car. SEAT BELTS

Passenger seat belts closest two both driver side and passenger side in the back seat do not lock properly. We tried to vacuum it clean and blow compressed air in it to clean it out but still not working. We took it to a local jeep dealer and they confirmed they would need to be replaced but only the extended warranty covers $599 (we owe $386). This should be an automatic safety hazard because I have a child who sits there and a pet who gets tethered there. In December I started noticing that I would have to pump the accelerator to get the vehicle to go but was fine once it was going. On December 10th while driving and stopped at a red light the truck cut off, I quickly turned on the flasher and tried to restart the truck. This happened every time I stopped. At that time the check engine light came on. After pumping the gas again I got it started. This happened 5 times by time I got home. I contacted a friend who is a mechanic and he informed me that I needed to get it to a shop. I did not drive it for 3 days, but upon driving it to put gas in it, I noticed that again I had to pump the gas pedal to get it going. When I reached a stop sign it cut off again. I called road side assistance through my insurance company and they were able to get it started. After pumping the gas again I was able to drive it to the gas station, where it would not start after that. Because of the time of night I had the truck towed to my house. Afterwards I it towed to a repair shop where I have been informed that a new engine is required . The truck only has 110,000 miles on it. I have had to replace the battery twice already. I feel it should be included in the recall as the issue stated for the recall is the problem and could have caused an accident when it shut off in the middle of the road during rush hour traffic.

POWER TRAIN

Power transfer failed while going through and intersection resulted in the vehicle being stranded in the travel lane of the highway I was crossing. Vehicle was towed to the closest transmission shop after jeep informed me there is currently no fix for the situation and they could not help with warranty service due to no repair has been found

The 4WD service light came on but the transmission has been having problems while shifting. It seems like it really struggles to change gears. This could be a huge problem if it doesn’t shift. When I went to the mechanic they said it was a PTU issue and they have been seeing a bunch of Jeep Cherokees with this issue.

PTU/rear differential failure The car began to act weird making some popping and banging noises on a two separate occasions, after that there began to be a rattling noise the car then during acceleration just lurched and almost locked up to a complete stop. Luckily this happened on a city street and a non busy hour of traffic with no one following. Other than the two sounds that were sporadic and far in-between not pinpointing anything seriously wrong initially there was no indication of serious issues, no warning lights or dash lights indicated an issue eventually there was a slight rattling then the lock up, even after the lurching incident there was no warning or dash lights that signified and issue. Dealership confirmed it's the rear differential/PTU wants $6,000 to repair the damage seems to indicate it's an occurrence due to pothole damage

SUSPENSION

The vehicle abruptly stopped driving going 40 mph, this could have caused an accident or rollover had It been on the highway. The check engine light came on after the incident. This was towed by flatbed to the dealership where it was diagnosed as the ptu.

Rear differential cracked at approximately 53,000 miles. The gear oil began leaking profusely. There were no warning lights so if I had continued to drive it, the rear could have locked up. My local shop (fox run automotive in Bear, Delaware) cannot find new dealer parts. A used differential sourced from a lot will be used at a cost of $3,400 to me.

I noticed an oil leak in the rear of the car. I went underneath and noticed the casing of the rear differential is separating at the seam. This can cause the rear to lock up, which can cause a loss of control. The warranty is expired. After doing research, there are thousands of cases with the exact same problem. My mechanic even said he has seen this on a few different jeeps of the same model. This should be a recall.

POWER TRAIN

PTU (Power transfer unit) I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the ongoing lack of resolution regarding my Jeep's Power Transfer Unit (PTU) replacement. Since November 19, 2024, my vehicle has been in service at Larry H. Miller, located at 9733 Coors Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. The dealership has informed me that the necessary part is on indefinite backorder, with no expected timeline for delivery. Despite my efforts, I have been unable to receive any assistance or timely resolution. The dealership is suggesting that I trade in my vehicle for a newer model, which I find completely unacceptable, especially since the part required for my vehicle’s repair is covered under my warranty. I have been working with Javiar Sanchez, the Service Manager, and have made multiple attempts to resolve this issue, but unfortunately, I have received no substantial help or updates. Additionally, I have contacted Jeep directly, with no progress made. This situation has left me in the unfortunate position of continuing to make payments on a vehicle that I am unable to drive. As my Jeep remains at the dealership without a resolution, I kindly request immediate assistance in facilitating the repair of my vehicle under warranty, or an alternative resolution to this issue.

When I put my car in park it began to smell as if something was burning. Within a few days, my car began leaking oil. I brought it to my mechanic, who let me know that my oil cooler was leaking. He let me know that this is a very common issue with Jeeps and Jeep is very well aware of it. He let me know that the oil cooler that Jeep uses is known to be faulty. I had it fixed by my local mechanic. There were no lights on in the Jeep and absolutely no notification that there was an issue. The oil life stated it was at 89%, which coincided with when I had my oil changed last. This issue went completely unnoticed by my car with NO alert to the driver. Had I not noticed the smell or recognized that my car was leaking, this could have been VERY bad. Jeep knows there is an issue and refuses to address it. I called the dealership and they denied that there was any issue with the part and even suggested that my local shop that changes my oil was responsible. A quick internet search will show you that this IS a huge issue with Jeeps and way too many people have had to pay out of their own pocket to fix an issue that Jeep knows they have with their faulty oil cooler.

ENGINE

Consistent hard, sudden shifts, jerking, shaking, and shuddering during gear changes. The vehicle also stalls and experiences shift delays. The vehicle also abruptly shifts to neutral while driving at various speeds.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

My vehicle is leaking in the front and passenger seat and my emergency brake comes on and I can't disengage it unless I stop the car and turn it off and back on. Sometimes it takes 2 times to do this. In November, twice I was merging into traffic going 45 miles per hour and it happened. I prayed I wouldn't get smashed. I turned the car off and back on and I was able to disengage the emergency brake. On 1/3/2025, it happened as I was backing out of my driveway onto traffic. I had to turn the car on and off 2 times before I could disengage the emergency brake. I was lucky no vehicles traveling on the road. There is a terrible sound and then the car bucks and you are jarred. I read about an investigation on this same issue back in July 2022. My dealer says until they can replicate the problem they can't fix it. Please help!

My vehicle is leaking in the front and passenger seat and my emergency brake comes on and I can't disengage it unless I stop the car and turn it off and back on. Sometimes it takes 2 times to do this. In November, twice I was merging into traffic going 45 miles per hour and it happened. I prayed I wouldn't get smashed. I turned the car off and back on and I was able to disengage the emergency brake. On 1/3/2025, it happened as I was backing out of my driveway onto traffic. I had to turn the car on and off 2 times before I could disengage the emergency brake. I was lucky no vehicles traveling on the road. There is a terrible sound and then the car bucks and you are jarred. I read about an investigation on this same issue back in July 2022. My dealer says until they can replicate the problem they can't fix it. Please help!

I was driving our 2020 Newmar Baystar #3609 motorhome and towing our 2019 Jeep Cherokee. In 2021, I had the Blue Ox tow bar, 10k rated along with the Blue Ox base plate installed at a RV dealer in Mead, WA. We have had no issues at all with this tow system during the last 4 years, we have never drove "off road", backed the unit up with our Jeep attached or abused the two system in any way. We had driven 6 hours from Pensacola, FL heading to the Mayport Naval Station. While on a secondary road approaching the base, I felt a tug on the motorhome. I checked my mirrors and saw our Jeep tracking to the passenger side and now not directly behind our motorhome. I pulled over and luckily there was no damage to our motorhome, our Jeep or any other property. I saw the passenger side base plate had failed. While examining the piece that had broken off, I noted the area where the "weld" was supposed to be didn't look right. It almost looks like the entire area that should have been welded to the base plate was spotty at best. I have reached out to Blue Ox Customer Service requesting they reimburse for a new set of base plates and the normal labor now to install them. I'm being quoted 4 hours labor which is more that the base plates. I'm glad the remaining base plate held, or our Jeep would have detached completely and even with the emergency break away attached, the likelihood of damaging persons or property would have been high. I took photos of the failed base plate and will keep both parts in the event they need to be examined by a competent person.
