Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.

Risk: A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.

Risk: A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

Risk: If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

EQUIPMENT

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.

Risk: If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.

SEATS

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured July 29, 2013, to February 5, 2016. The seat fasteners on the first or second row seats may not have been tightened to the proper torque specification.

Risk: Loose fasteners may allow the seats to move, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupants in the event of a crash.

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 1, 2013, to November 19, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience unintended side curtain and seat air bag deployment during vehicle operation.

Risk: If the air bags deploy unexpectedly during vehicle operation, it can increase the risk of personal injury and increase the risk of a crash.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured October 1, 2014, to June 18, 2015. The affected vehicles may have a misrouted air conditioning suction/discharge hose.

Risk: If the line is misrouted, it may contact the exhaust manifold, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.

Risk: Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.

STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 4, 2013, to February 18, 2015 and equipped with a Power Liftgate option. In the affected vehicles, water may enter the Power Liftgate Control Module and cause a high resistance short circuit in the module.

Risk: A short circuit in the liftgate control module may result in a fire.

Service shifter warning came on while driving, had to put the vehicle back into automatic mode since manual shifting (paddle shifting) stopped working.

Since acquiring my vehicle, I have had to replace the flex pipe three times. I have experienced recurrent issues with the exhaust system, requiring multiple repairs to address the same problem, which has resulted in ongoing frustration and inconvenience.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the Electronic Throttle Control warning light illuminated on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH off an exit ramp, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the RPMs increased, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact stated that the failure had mainly occurred while driving between 2nd and 3rd gear, and between 1st and 2nd gear. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

POWER TRAIN

Continual problems with Power train led to replacement of the Power Transfer Unit at 94,910 miles [ under warranty ] The vehicle is not usable when the PTU fails. The vehicle will slam into gear hard, or fail to move for a few seconds when trying to take off from a stop sign and then slam into gear. Very dangerous when pulling into traffic. Now after experiencing the same erratic behavior at 123000 miles , i took the jeep back to the same dealer only to find the Power transfer unit again must be replaced. The replacement only lasted about 28,000 miles. I am retired, this jeep has not been abused nor driven off road. This could cause an accident or strand me somewhere making me afraid to drive it. This problem seems to occur often with this model and also has reduced the value of this vehicle .

POWER TRAIN

The vehicle is exhibiting all the same mechanical issues as others that have been covered under a recall pertaining to the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). I took it to an authorized dealer and they discovered the input splines on the PTU are worn badly and suggested a PTU replacement as well as a rear axle replacement. They did the software update to reprogram the PTU and that was supposed to correct the issue. I had to pay for the software update, whereas, yet again this update was covered on other Jeep Cherokee's of the same make, model, and year. The dealer is saying that I will have to pay out of pocket for the PTU, and rear axle replacement since my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited does not have the particular recall for its VIN number. This vehicle is a safety risk to drive with these unaddressed issues that others have had addressed previously. I am told by the dealership that the vehicle is not unsafe to drive as is, however, NHTSA previously qualified these vehicles to be unsafe that have these issues pertaining to the recall previously referenced. Since I am told by the dealership that the vehicle is safe to drive as is and furthermore, the vehicle is not covered for a recall repair for the issue I am experiencing, I will continue to drive the vehicle with the safety concern, however, I am not responsible for anything that may result from driving it in the current condition.

Transmission issue, vehicle bucks or jolts when accelerating appears there is a recall for this but my VIN shows I am not recalled but other 2015 Jeep Cherokees were affected. How can I get this fixed since it was a recall? Cooling goes in and out. This vehicle is driven by my [XXX] daughter. The service 4x4 light came on . I took it to the dealer and they told me they updated the software. Well not even a week later the 4x4 light was back on and the ABS light. My daughter called me in a panic because the brakes were locking up. She was able to get the truck to the shoulder. I had the vehicle towed to a Jeep Chrysler dealership. I paid over $2500.00 to have vehicle repaired to only have the same 4x4 light on. I took truck back to the dealership to be told that it’s the PTU on the vehicle. Which the service guy Mark said is a common problem with these vehicles. I asked him if it’s ok to drive and he said well the car could be a safety issue . So I did my own research and saw that there were recalls on this same year vehicle and I am questioning why my vehicle was not recalled. If this issue poses a highly likely safety issue than why isn’t all vehicle of 2015 Jeep Cherokee being recalled and the issue being fixed. My truck is still at the dealership and the cost to repair is over $3000.00 which is absolutely insane for Jeep to be aware of an issue in the manufacturing. I am lucky that my [XXX] daughter recognized an issue and had the wherewithal to get the vehicle in a safe location, and thank GOD that she wasn’t on the freeway. Took vehicle to garage after hearing rattling sound, mechanic said that PTU shaft almost completely came off due to spline wear. He said there should be an active recall specifically for this issue, so referred us to Jeep dealership for repair. The Jeep dealership said that the only active recall is for the powered lift gate module. However, my VIN was not included in the W47 recall (NHTSA 20V-343), even though my vehicle has the same problem. The Jeep dealership wants to replace the entire transmission mount for $516, but the other mechanic states this will likely not fix the problem.

On [XXX] I was leaving a Nebraska residence to return to Montana. During the trip I had to stop on the highway because the lift gate released and flew open at 55 mph. At that time I pulled over and the gate would not close. I tried several times to close it and so did other drivers who stopped to help me. At that time the resolution was to disconnect the battery and then reconnect. This helped. Upon returning home there was discussion with other drivers on my policy that stated they have had the same issue on prior dates in the last 6 months. The lift gate mechanism has been recalled and replaced on this vehicle on two occasions but the latching mechanism is the issue for this vehicle. To unlatch while in transit and not relatch make it a hazard. Conversations with local shops do not result in a resolution. The second day after I took it out of the dealership, I realized that the engine was damaged. It started to smoke and lose power. On the road, I almost had an accident because the car didn't brake well. They sold it to me like that. They didn't want to give me the carfax and it hasn't been inspected. They told me that it was in perfect condition, which they lied to me, putting the lives of many people at risk. The vehicle shows "4wd system unavailable service required" i took the vehicle to the dealership where they stated the PTU transfer case is not shifting. Dealership did not fix and said it is not covered under the recall for the PTU.

The emergency parking brake failed and became stuck in place, making my vehicle unable to get out of park to drive. I am able to shift gears but the EPB is stuck. There is also instances where the EPB has turned on by itself in the middle of driving. I saw there was research ongoing with this issue in 2014-2021 Jeep Cherokees (PE 22-009) which is related to a previous recall (15v-393). I hope this issue is able to progress to a recall as this is severely dangerous and inconvenient. Thankfully this has only happened while I was driving not near other cars but in the event this should happen on the highway for instance it could be catastrophic.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the PTU had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under warranty; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing hard and erratic transmission shifts, was shuddering, and was making abnormal grinding sounds. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the PTU was replaced a second time under warranty. The contact stated that while driving from the dealer, the 4-Wheel Drive Mode engaged unintendedly. The contact stated that the vehicle remained stuck in 4-Wheel Drive mode and was undrivable. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the PTU, the transmission, and the drivetrain control module had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

POWER TRAIN

at 21,734 miles the transmission has failed and cause the engine to rev to 5000RPM in park. service technician found excessive metal in transmission fluid and recommends replacing transmission, transmission cooler and transmission lines for $8085 plus tax. Technician was able to recreate the action of engine revving to 5000RPM once in park.

WHEELS

Warning lights came on, unable to see speedometer screen. Mechanic removed and replaced front wheel speed sensor and abs wheel sensor.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 - 65 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate and independently shifted to neutral, causing the vehicle to fail to accelerate. No mechanic has been able to accurately diagnose it, and I continue to pay for different repairs, without getting the problem actually solved.

Hello my jeep got a message of service 4 wheel drive so i brought it to the dealership. the looked at it and it turns out to be a failing PTU. Jeep did a recall and extended warranty on it but they are saying they will not cover the cost of the repair because its the wrong code. I have code C14A797 and they are saying they need code P14A797. This doesnt even make sense its the same exact faulty part but different codes??? Codes they the car company creates?

After driving a vehicle for a few minutes the lights will flash pretty badly, the service transmission light comes on, on the dash and the car enters limp mode, and the fan comes on, you are unable to move the vehicle it will not go forward or backwards. The vehicle runs perfectly smooth until this happens without warning. I am filing this complaint to report a seemingly common ongoing and worsening transmission issues in my 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which persist and have become significantly worse after receiving the U90 recall update and a subsequent TCM/PCM software update offered by Jeep. My vehicle shifted regular before the update After the update, the vehicle began exhibiting: •Harsh and delayed shifting •Sudden jerks and gear hunting during low-speed driving •Uncommanded downshifts •Severe hesitation from a stop, especially at intersections or in traffic •Loss of power under throttle, with unpredictable shifts These symptoms make the vehicle unsafe in daily driving — especially in traffic or at intersections — as it often fails to respond predictably when attempting to accelerate or shift gears. The transmission behavior feels erratic, and software updates have not resolved the issue. Despite the U90 recall and repeated visits to the dealer, the transmission continues to perform poorly and poses a safety concern. Other owners have reported similar issues post-recall. Jeep has not issued a full recall for these problems beyond software updates, which clearly do not solve the underlying mechanical or calibration issues Resolution Sought: I urge NHTSA to: •Investigate post-U90 transmission behavior in the 2015 Jeep Cherokee •Consider a formal recall or service campaign for the ZF 9-speed transmission (9HP) due to persistent performance and safety problems •Require Jeep to provide a permanent fix for affected owners

The contact stated that the following day, he observed condensation under the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The 4WD unavailable notification is displayed on the Jeep. I took the vehicle to a mechanic, and was told that the Power Transfer Unit needs to be replaced. Currently in a battle with a Jeep dealership, over whether or not they should honor the extended warranty on the PTU.

The transmission has had issues since we purchased the vehicle. The issues sometimes makes you feel unsafe when accelerating. Issues include hard shifting in lower gears, jerking, lurching, and sudden surges when accelerating. I have complained multiple times to the dealership during routine maintenance visits. They have performed several software updates but does not seem to help.

This issue occurred when I started the vehicle. Control panel showing Service 4WD and Four-Wheel Drive Unavailable. The dealership retrieved code C14A7-97 (PTU Motor - Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked) noting internal damage to PTU...PTU needs to be replaced. Quote to replace over $10K. There is another safety recall for the PTU but this code is not covered. I do not see how normal driving could cause "internal damage" to the PTU and cannot understand how this does not relate to any already known issues with the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk PTU system.

POWER TRAIN

Since I bought the car Periodic here and there hesitation when going from complete stop to pressing gas to go . Traffic coming towards us and still hesitant to go (sometimes had to pull to the side and other times finally caught on and went) so took it in for tune up had spark plugs replaced and over time periodic hesitation happening again. . Didn’t think much of it then maybe it’s the car (it was so infrequent) until the SVC 4WD light came abt a week n half ago and now the car has been in the shop since waiting to have the PTU replaced. Why was my car not recalled? And others have been. It only has Just under 100,000 miles on it. Currently at Lynch Chrysler Jeep in Mukwonago being worked on! Also just 4 weeks prior to that it was in for the standard ignition engine oil cooler .. (receipt attached) cracked so bad leaking oil every where. Repair shop said they’ve seen of half dozen of these in the shop in the past few weeks. . Part is made cheap and is plastic. Common prob why isn’t that recalled ? But better yet after that was replaced within 24 hours check engine light came back on for a defaulty oil pressure sensor that was part of the standard ignition engine oil cooler - at least was part under warranty due to it was just replaced. Then the SVC 4WD which is mentioned above, this is still being repaired (so no receipt yet just estimate) I guess there was a hold on ordering parts but now has been lifted and they got the part and started working on my car! Not sure if my car qualifies for a lemon or not .. but if this is how a jeep is made I will never buy another .. I’ve been without a car for over a month due to sitting in shops!!

After trying to restart the car it took some tinkering with the ebrake and after a slight hesitation of the engine, it started. That happened twice in one day and once on another. This is a huge issue that can cause loss of life.
