2020 JAYCO NORTHPOINT Complaints and Recall Information

The 2020 JAYCO NORTHPOINT has 3 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report structural frame failures, specifically multiple cross members and metal bracings breaking off the main I-beam. The suspensions system is compromised due to broken welds, creating safety concerns for towing and highway use.

Common Issues
  • Frame failure. Multiple major cross members have completely broken off the I-beam running front to back of the camper, with welds failing entirely.
  • Structural bracing damage. Other metal bracings between cross members and to the I-beams have broken free, weakening overall support.
  • Suspension compromise. Issues found with leaf springs, shackles, or hangars after trips, suggesting compromised suspension components.
  • Safety risk. Lack of support between main I-beams poses hazards to the towing vehicle operator and other motorists on highways.
  • Outrigger damage. Multiple outriggers have become compromised due to movement of the primary 12-inch I-beams.

There are 4 recalls affecting this vehicle, covering certification labels, suspension axle spindles, propane regulators, and frameless window bonds. These recalls impact tire information, structural components, fuel systems, and visibility safety.

Recalls
  • Certification labels. (NHTSA 25V355000, 69 vehicles) The certification labels may show incorrect tire size causing installation of wrong tires. This increases crash risk. Jayco will mail corrected labels free, no Do Not Drive advisory.
  • Axle spindle welds. (NHTSA 20V665000, 735 vehicles) Welds on the axle spindle may fail, causing wheel/spindle to separate from axle tube. This raises crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace if needed at no cost.
  • Propane regulator failure. (NHTSA 21V425000, 87,649 vehicles) The Winntec 6020 two-stage propane regulator may fail and cause increased propane pressure. This could enlarge flames and increase fire risk. Dealers will replace regulators and test systems free of charge.
  • Window adhesive bond. (NHTSA 20V336000, 1,105 vehicles) Adhesive failure between glass and metal hinge frame in frameless crank out and egress windows may cause glass to detach and fall out. Detached glass could be a projectile risk. Dealers will inspect and replace windows as needed at no cost.

Owners dealing with repeated frame failures, suspension problems, or unresolved recall repairs may want to consider their rights under state lemon laws. Persistent safety defects and multiple recalls warrant close attention for potential legal remedies.

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Jayco North Point fifth wheel travel trailers. The certification labels may have the incorrect tire size information, causing the operator to install incorrect tires.

Risk: Towing a trailer with incorrect tires increases the risk of a crash.

21V425000

EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER:LPG SYSTEMS

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Jayco Designer, 2017-2021 Eagle HT, Eagle, Jay Feather, Jay Flight SLX, Jay Flight, North Point, Octane Superlite, Pinnacle, White Hawk, 2017-2020 Eagle HT, 2018-2021 Jay Flight Bungalow, 2017-2019 Octane, and 2019-2020 Eagle HTX travel trailers and fifth wheels equipped with a Winntec model 6020 two-stage propane regulator. The regulator may fail, causing an increase in propane pressure.

Risk: Increased propane pressure can enlarge the flames in gas appliances, increasing the risk of a fire.

SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:SPINDLE

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Fifth Wheel Northpoint 387RDFS(LZ) recreational trailers. The welds on the axle spindle may fail, causing the wheel/spindle assembly to break away from the axle tube.

Risk: If the wheel/spindle assembly separates from the axle tube, it can increase the risk of a crash.

2020 JAYCO NORTHPOINT

1105 vehicles affected

VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2020 Towable Eagle, Eagle HT, JayFlight, NorthPoint, Octane, Pinnacle, Seismic, and Talon recreational vehicles. The adhesive bond between the glass and the metal hinge frame of the frameless crank out vent and egress windows may fail which would then allow the glass to detach and fall out.

Risk: If the window glass detaches while the vehicle is moving it could become a projectile, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Upon completing a trip with the RV mentioned, an inspection was completed of the units suspension system where it was found to be compromised. Not knowing what compromised the suspension (leaf springs, shackles, hangars, etc), further investigation was done where the underbelly of the camper was removed. Upon gaining access to the actual RV frame, it was found to have at least two major cross members completely broken off the I-beam that runs from the front to back of the camper. Not only were there two cross members where the welds had completely broken free, but there were other metal bracings between cross members and to the I-beams that have also completely broken off. With the welds completely broken, there is no support between the two I-beams on this camper leading to major safety concern not only to those towing the fifth wheel but other motorist around the unit while on the highway. No accident has occurred but instead the frame has completely failed, including multiple cross members, other structural steel bracing and even multiple outriggers compromised due to the movement of the main 12" I-beams. This is a MAJOR safety concern that Lippert (frame manufacturer) nor Jayco (RV brand) is taking any responsibility for but should be addressed as other units sitting on similar frames could be facing the same issues due to the low quality welds and bracing.
