2010 JAGUAR XF Complaints and Recall Information

The 2010 JAGUAR XF has 1 complaint and 9 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report fuel system issues, including fuel odors inside the vehicle. One complaint detailed a persistent fuel odor that intensified when the air conditioning was on and reoccurred despite a fuel cap replacement.

Common Issues

  • Fuel odor inside vehicle. An abnormal gasoline smell becomes stronger when the A/C is activated, without warning lights illuminating. The issue persisted after replacing the fuel cap.

There are 9 recalls related primarily to the fuel system, power steering, engine components, and air bag inflators. These recalls address defects that involve risks of fuel leaks, engine stalling, power steering failure, potential fires, and air bag inflator ruptures.

Recalls

  • Engine and engine cooling. Recall 10V332000 affected 5,048 vehicles for a fuel pump relay that may not activate correctly, causing fuel starvation and unexpected engine shutoff. Dealers will update software free of charge.
  • Power steering fluid pipes. Recall 11V168000 covered 4,926 vehicles due to corrosion-prone pipes that might leak pressurized fluid and possibly cause fire. Replacement of pipes is provided at no cost.
  • Fuel tank outlet flange (5.0L engine). Recall 12V521000 involved 4,195 vehicles with a cracking flange that could leak fuel and increase fire risk. Dealers will replace the flange free of charge.
  • Fuel tank outlet flange (4.2L engine). Recall 20V081000 addressed 2,907 vehicles for fuel leaks from cracked outlet flanges. Replacement parts are provided without charge.
  • Fuel outlet flange (early manufactures). Recall 16V187000 applied to 28 vehicles made late 2008 to early 2009 with potential fuel leaks from cracked flanges. Repair by flange replacement is free.
  • Passenger side air bag inflator. Recall 18V009000 covered 8,925 vehicles at risk of inflator explosions due to propellant degradation, which could cause injury or death. Dealers replace air bag assemblies at no cost.
  • Passenger side air bag inflator (extended models). Recall 18V010000 involved 16,532 vehicles with a similar inflator defect risking rupture and injury. Free replacement of air bag assembly is provided.
  • Passenger side air bag inflator (specific states). Recall 16V373000 affected 20,107 vehicles registered in certain states with inflator rupture risks from propellant degradation. Dealers perform free assembly replacements.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, safety defects, or unresolved recall issues related to the 2010 JAGUAR XF may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting with a qualified attorney could help clarify those rights.

STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS

JAGUAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 XK AND XF VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 27, 2009, THROUGH MARCH 10, 2010. THE POWER ASSIST STEERING (PAS) PIPES HAVE BEEN SUPPLIED WITH ZINC-NICKEL PLATING THAT DOES NOT MEET FULLY THE CORROSION PROTECTION REQUIREMENTS OF JAGUAR'S ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION. AFTER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME IN SERVICE, CORROSION OF THE PAS PIPES WILL OCCUR THAT MAY LEAD TO PIN-HOLING OF THE PIPE.

Risk: PIN-HOLING OF THE PAS PIPES COULD ALLOW PRESSURIZED POWER STEERING FLUID TO LEAK INTO THE UNDER-HOOD AND ENGINE BAY AREA. A LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID WILL RESULT IN A LOSS OF POWER ASSIST STEERING. ALSO, THAT FLUID MAY IGNITE IF IT COMES INTO CONTACT WITH AN IGNITION SOURCE OR A SURFACE AT SUFFICIENTLY HIGH ENOUGH TEMPERATURE, CAUSING A VEHICLE FIRE.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

JAGUAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010-2011 JAGUAR XK AND MODEL YEAR 2010 XF V8 5.OL GASOLINE ENGINE VEHICLES. THE IN-TANK ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP MAY NOT BE CORRECTLY ACTIVATED AS THE FUEL PUMP RELAY IS NOT ENERGIZED FOLLOWING A VEHICLE START UP CYCLE. AN INADEQUATE SUPPLY OF FUEL TO THE ENGINE COULD RESULT.

Risk: FUEL STARVATION TO THE ENGINE LEADS TO ENGINE STUMBLE FOLLOWED BY ENGINE CUT OUT WITH MINIMAL WARNING AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A CRASH.
