2025 INTERNATIONAL LT Complaints and Recall Information

The 2025 INTERNATIONAL LT has 2 complaints and 11 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the automatic braking and lane assist system activating erroneously, causing sudden braking. These events have led to unintended vehicle movements and minor injuries from seat belt locking.

Common Issues
  • False automatic braking. The Autonomous Braking and Lane Assist system activates without reason when slowing trucks are detected far ahead.
  • Sudden braking force. Brakes engage abruptly, causing the vehicle to slide and trailer momentum to shift unexpectedly.
  • Faulty radar sensor. The radar used for detecting obstacles is identified as defective and requires replacement.
  • Injury from seat belt. Operators report strains from seat belt locking during false braking events, although medical attention was not needed.

There are 11 recalls related to several vehicle systems including steering, braking, lighting, fuel delivery, and electronic controls. These recalls address defects that may affect vehicle safety and control functions.

Recalls
  • Tie rod assemblies. (NHTSA 24V462000 and 24V556000) Approximately 689 vehicles are affected by improperly heat-treated ball studs that can break, risking steering loss and crashes. Dealers will replace tie rod ends and realign front axles at no charge.
  • Turn signal wiring. (NHTSA 24V180000) 38 vehicles have reversed wires in the taillight jumper harness causing turn signals to activate incorrectly, potentially confusing other drivers. Dealers will replace the wiring harness for free.
  • Steering gear sector shaft. (NHTSA 24V164000) 272 vehicles may have cracks or fractures in improperly heat-treated steering gear teeth, risking steering failure. Steering gears will be replaced at no cost.
  • Hill Start Assist brakes. (NHTSA 25V501000) 1129 trucks are affected by clogged HSA exhaust ports that delay release of service brakes, increasing crash risks. Dealers will relocate the exhaust port free of charge.
  • Windshield wiper linkage. (NHTSA 25V276000) 14,786 vehicles have risk of right-side wiper linkage separation, causing wipers to fail and visibility reduction. Dealers will replace the wiper module at no cost.
  • Fuel pump barrels. (NHTSA 24V734000) 1086 vehicles equipped with Cummins X15 engines may experience fuel pump barrel fractures that cause fuel leaks and engine stalls, increasing crash risk. Fuel pump barrels will be replaced free of charge.
  • Electronic control unit software. (NHTSA 24V818000) Over 105,000 affected vehicles have Bendix EC80 ECU issues caused by electrical noise, leading to improper or lost commands for safety systems such as ABS and collision mitigation. Dealers will reprogram ECU software at no charge.

Owners facing repeated safety system malfunctions, unresolved recall defects, or multiple repairs may have rights under their state lemon laws. Consulting with a consumer protection attorney is advisable for such cases.

VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:LINKAGES

International Motors, LLC (International) is recalling certain 2025-2026 HV, HX, LT, MV, RH, and 2025 EMV vehicles. The linkage that connects the right-side wiper arm to the motor may separate, causing the wipers to fail.

Risk: Windshield wiper failure can reduce driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

25V501000

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

International Motors, LLC (International) is recalling certain 2024-2026 LT and 2025 RH trucks. The Hill Start Assist (HSA) exhaust port may become clogged, delaying or preventing the release of the service brakes.

Risk: Brakes that are still engaged while driving increase the risk of crash.

STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2025 International HV, LT, MV, and RH trucks. Tie rod assemblies may contain ball studs that may have been incorrectly heat-treated, which can cause them to break, and possibly result in tie rod failure.

Risk: Tie rod failure can cause a loss of vehicle steering control and increase the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE

International Motors, LLC (International) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Lonestar, 2021-2025 RH, HV, MV, LT, HX, and 2022 PROSTAR vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.

Risk: Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may have diminished or lost functionality, increasing the risk of a crash.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2025 International HX and International LT vehicles equipped with Cummins X15 diesel engines. The fuel pump barrels may fracture and cause a fuel leak, resulting in an engine stall.

Risk: An engine stall increases the risk of a crash.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2025 International LT vehicles. Two wires in the taillight jumper harness may be reversed, causing the turn signal to activate in the opposite direction of what the driver intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk: Turn signals that do not function as intended may confuse other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.

LANE DEPARTURE: SENSING SYSTEM: RADAR

The contact was the operator of a 2025 International LT62F company vehicle. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving with another truck in front of the vehicle that was attempting to slow down from at least 200 feet away, the automatic braking system erroneously activated, causing a false positive reaction with the brakes warning system detecting a possible crash with a brick wall, causing the Autonomous Braking and Lane Assist system to slam on the brakes of the tractor and the trailer. The contact stated that the force caused the vehicle to slide to the left, with the momentum of the trailer being hauled. There was no accident reported. The contact sustained a strain of the right shoulder from the seat belt locking. Medical attention was not required. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the radar was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,185.
