2019 INTERNATIONAL HX Complaints and Recall Information

The 2019 INTERNATIONAL HX has 0 complaints and 7 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to engine performance, braking systems, and transmission components based on recall descriptions.

There are seven recalls for the 2019 INTERNATIONAL HX affecting engine, braking, clutch, and fuel systems among others. These recalls address potential safety hazards such as fuel leaks, unintended vehicle movement, and brake failures. The following details provide an overview of the affected systems and corrective measures.

Recalls
  • Engine fuel line. NHTSA recall 18V588000 affects 26,288 vehicles. A restricted fuel pump cooling circuit screen can cause the nylon fuel line to burst under certain conditions. Fuel may leak onto the road creating a hazard and the engine may stall without warning. Dealers will replace the nylon line with a steel line at no cost.
  • Clutch assembly. NHTSA recall 18V826000 involves 21,740 vehicles equipped with Eaton ECA clutches. An internal clutch component may fail causing unintended vehicle movement and increasing crash risk. The Transmission Control Module will be recalibrated free of charge by dealers.
  • Electronic stability control. NHTSA recall 18V289000 covers 72 vehicles. An air supply line to the roll stability valve may be improperly routed, which can cause unintentional parking brake modulation during oversteer on slippery roads. Dealers will reroute the supply line at no cost.
  • Service brakes air system. NHTSA recall 18V289000 also relates to 72 vehicles. The same defect in routing of the air supply line may cause unintended parking brake activation, increasing crash risk. Correction involves rerouting the line, free of charge.
  • Service brakes air chamber. NHTSA recall 18V597000 affects 2,089 vehicles. Spring actuated parking brakes may be improperly crimped to long stroke brake chambers causing air leaks or possible chamber separation. Dealers will replace the affected brake chambers free of charge.
  • Fuel system heat damage. NHTSA recall 18V412000 covers 19 vehicles. Heat from the air compressor discharge line may damage fuel lines, potentially causing rupture and fire risk. Dealers will replace fittings and redesign the discharge line at no cost.
  • Air compressor discharge line. Also part of NHTSA recall 18V412000 on 19 vehicles. The faulty discharge line may contact fuel lines leading to heat damage. The repair includes replacing the fittings and redesigning the discharge line without charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved safety recalls should consider reviewing their rights under state lemon laws. These laws may provide protections for vehicles with persistent defects or recall-related issues.

POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2019 International HV, MV, 2018-2019 HX, LT, RH, LoneStar, ProStar, WorkStar, and 2018 TranStar automated manual transmission vehicles, equipped with certain Eaton ECA heavy-duty truck clutches. An internal component in the clutch assembly may fail, possibly resulting in unintended vehicle movement.

Risk: Unintended vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2017-2018 International ProStar and 9900i trucks, 2018-2019 International LT trucks, 2017-2019 International LoneStar and HX trucks and 2017 International PayStar trucks, equipped with Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines. In certain driving conditions, such as on a long down-hill grade, the fuel line may burst if the fuel pump cooling circuit screen becomes restricted.

Risk: If the fuel line bursts, fuel may leak onto the road resulting in a roadway hazard for other motorists. The engine may also stall without warning, resulting in the vehicle's inability to restart, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:SUPPLY:COMPRESSOR

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2018-2019 International HX and LT trucks equipped with a Cummins ISX engine and a Wabco 37.4 air compressor. The air compressor discharge line may contact the fuel filter inlet and outlet lines (fuel lines) and the heat generated from the air compressor discharge line may cause heat damage to the fuel lines.

Risk: Continued heat damage to the fuel lines could cause the fuel lines to rupture, resulting in a fuel leak and increasing the risk of a fire.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2019 International HX, DuraStar, WorkStar, HV, LoneStar, LT, MV, and RH vehicles, and IC Bus HC, CE, and RE vehicles equipped with long stroke brake chambers and spring actuated parking brakes. The spring actuated parking brake may be improperly crimped to the long stroke service brake chamber, causing a service brake air leak and the possible separation of the spring brake chamber from the service brake section.

Risk: An air leak or separation of the spring brake chamber can increase the needed stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2017-2019 International HX severe service diesel trucks equipped with feature code 04091 (dual air brake system) and 04AZY (Antilock Brake System (ABS) with 6 channel Electronic Stability Protection (ESP)). The air supply line to the SR7 roll stability valve may have been improperly routed to the ATR6 brake control valve steer axle delivery port, when it should be connected to the ATR6 brake control valve control port.

Risk: During a stability control oversteer event when there are slippery road conditions, the parking brakes may be modulated unintentionally, potentially causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.
