2018 INTERNATIONAL HX Complaints and Recall Information

The 2018 INTERNATIONAL HX has 0 complaints and 7 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners commonly report issues related to engine performance, clutch assembly, braking system, and fuel system defects as indicated by recall history.

There are seven recalls associated with the 2018 INTERNATIONAL HX affecting various components including the diesel fuel system, engine cooling, clutch assembly, electronic stability control, and air brake system.

Recalls
  • Fuel system, diesel. NHTSA recall 17V406000 affects 224 vehicles. The fuel pump drive gear may slip on its shaft causing fuel pump failure and engine stall which raises crash risk. Cummins will replace fuel pumps free of charge.
  • Engine cooling and fuel lines. Recall 18V588000 involves 26,288 trucks. Fuel line may burst during long downhill grades if fuel pump cooling screen clogs, causing fuel leaks and potential stalls. Nylon fuel lines will be replaced with steel lines at no cost.
  • Clutch assembly. Recall 18V826000 covers 21,740 vehicles. Internal clutch components may fail resulting in unintended vehicle movement and crash risk. Dealers will recalibrate the Transmission Control Module free of charge.
  • Electronic stability control and service brakes, air. Recall 18V289000 applies to 72 trucks. Incorrect routing of air supply line to stability control valve can lead to unintended parking brake modulation during oversteer on slippery roads, increasing crash risk. Dealers will reroute lines free of charge.
  • Fuel system, diesel and service brakes, air compressor. Recall 18V412000 affects 19 trucks. Heat from air compressor discharge line may damage nearby fuel lines causing leaks and fire risk. Repairs include replacing fittings and discharge lines with redesigned components free of charge.

Owners facing repeated repairs, unresolved safety recalls, or defects related to engine stalls, brake issues, or fuel leaks may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting legal assistance could help clarify consumer protections available for persistent problems with this vehicle.

POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2019 International HV, MV, 2018-2019 HX, LT, RH, LoneStar, ProStar, WorkStar, and 2018 TranStar automated manual transmission vehicles, equipped with certain Eaton ECA heavy-duty truck clutches. An internal component in the clutch assembly may fail, possibly resulting in unintended vehicle movement.

Risk: Unintended vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2017-2018 International ProStar and 9900i trucks, 2018-2019 International LT trucks, 2017-2019 International LoneStar and HX trucks and 2017 International PayStar trucks, equipped with Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines. In certain driving conditions, such as on a long down-hill grade, the fuel line may burst if the fuel pump cooling circuit screen becomes restricted.

Risk: If the fuel line bursts, fuel may leak onto the road resulting in a roadway hazard for other motorists. The engine may also stall without warning, resulting in the vehicle's inability to restart, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:SUPPLY:COMPRESSOR

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2018-2019 International HX and LT trucks equipped with a Cummins ISX engine and a Wabco 37.4 air compressor. The air compressor discharge line may contact the fuel filter inlet and outlet lines (fuel lines) and the heat generated from the air compressor discharge line may cause heat damage to the fuel lines.

Risk: Continued heat damage to the fuel lines could cause the fuel lines to rupture, resulting in a fuel leak and increasing the risk of a fire.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2017-2019 International HX severe service diesel trucks equipped with feature code 04091 (dual air brake system) and 04AZY (Antilock Brake System (ABS) with 6 channel Electronic Stability Protection (ESP)). The air supply line to the SR7 roll stability valve may have been improperly routed to the ATR6 brake control valve steer axle delivery port, when it should be connected to the ATR6 brake control valve control port.

Risk: During a stability control oversteer event when there are slippery road conditions, the parking brakes may be modulated unintentionally, potentially causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

Navistar Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2018 International LT and HX severe service diesel trucks equipped with Cummins ISX 15L engines. These engines have a fuel pump whose drive gear could possibly slip on its drive shaft, causing a fuel pump function loss, resulting in an engine stall.

Risk: An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.
