2017 INTERNATIONAL HX Complaints and Recall Information

The 2017 INTERNATIONAL HX has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to engine stalling and brake system malfunctions due to manufacturing defects identified in recall actions.

The five recalls affect various systems including engine components, electronic stability control, and braking systems. These recalls address safety concerns such as fuel line rupture, engine stalling, and brake system routing errors.

Recalls
  • Fuel line defect. NHTSA recall 18V588000 affects 26,288 vehicles. The fuel pump cooling circuit screen can become restricted under certain driving conditions causing the fuel line to burst. Fuel leakage creates road hazards and the engine may stall without warning. Dealers replace the nylon fuel line with a steel one free of charge.
  • Brake system air line routing. NHTSA recall 18V289000 affects 72 vehicles. The air supply line to the SR7 roll stability valve is routed incorrectly to the ATR6 brake control valve steer axle delivery port instead of the control port. This may unintentionally modulate parking brakes during stability control oversteer events on slippery roads, increasing crash risk. Dealers reroute the supply line at no cost.
  • Engine control module short. NHTSA recall 16V453000 affects 1,191 vehicles. Certain engine control modules can experience electrical shorts, blowing a fuse and causing unexpected engine stalls with no restart capability. This raises crash risk. Dealers replace the ECM free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved safety recalls may have rights under state lemon laws and should seek legal advice to explore their options.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2017-2018 International ProStar and 9900i trucks, 2018-2019 International LT trucks, 2017-2019 International LoneStar and HX trucks and 2017 International PayStar trucks, equipped with Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines. In certain driving conditions, such as on a long down-hill grade, the fuel line may burst if the fuel pump cooling circuit screen becomes restricted.

Risk: If the fuel line bursts, fuel may leak onto the road resulting in a roadway hazard for other motorists. The engine may also stall without warning, resulting in the vehicle's inability to restart, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2017-2019 International HX severe service diesel trucks equipped with feature code 04091 (dual air brake system) and 04AZY (Antilock Brake System (ABS) with 6 channel Electronic Stability Protection (ESP)). The air supply line to the SR7 roll stability valve may have been improperly routed to the ATR6 brake control valve steer axle delivery port, when it should be connected to the ATR6 brake control valve control port.

Risk: During a stability control oversteer event when there are slippery road conditions, the parking brakes may be modulated unintentionally, potentially causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.
