2024 INTERNATIONAL HV Complaints and Recall Information

The 2024 INTERNATIONAL HV has 0 complaints and 9 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to recalls involving steering, braking, and electronic control systems. There are no direct owner complaints submitted to NHTSA at this time.

There are nine recalls affecting various safety and operational systems on the 2024 INTERNATIONAL HV. The recalls cover multiple components including steering gears, brake calipers, seat belts, engine control modules, and electronic control units. These recalls address potential safety risks such as loss of steering control, brake function impairments, and malfunctioning safety system electronics.

  • Steering gear assembly. Recall 24V088000 affects 893 vehicles where steering gear assemblies may have fewer recirculating balls than required, risking loss of steering control and increasing crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace defective gears free of charge.
  • Brake caliper interference. Recall 25V178000 covers 153 vehicles with calipers that may contact suspension springs or axle U-bolts, preventing the outer brake pad from working and extending stopping distance. Dealers will swap calipers, replace torque plates, and brake pads at no cost.
  • ECU software malfunction. Recall 24V818000 involves 105,276 vehicles equipped with Bendix EC80 ECUs. Electrical noise can cause the ECU to misprocess commands or stop working, affecting ABS, traction control, stability control, cruise control, and collision mitigation, raising crash risk. Software will be reprogrammed free of charge.
  • Seat belt tether bolt defect. Recall 24V026000 includes 297 vehicles with improperly seated driver seat belt tether bolts, which may not restrain occupants properly and increase injury risk in crashes. Dealers will inspect and replace seat belts as needed.
  • Engine control module software error. Recall 23V120000 affects 27,972 vehicles where the engine may rev despite the parking brake, transmission position, and PTO switch setting, causing unintended vehicle movement and increased crash risk. Dealers will update the Cummins ECM software free of charge.
  • ABS warning light failure. Recall 23V370000 covers 59,684 vehicles whose ABS indicator light fails to remain lit during a malfunction, preventing driver notification and increasing crash risk. Dealers will update the software free of charge. Towing variants are excluded from repair under recall 24V-8918.

Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved issues related to these recalls may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a legal professional can help determine eligibility for protections and remedies under applicable consumer protection laws.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC:CALIPER

International Motors, LLC (International) is recalling certain 2024 HV, 2020-2025 MV, and 2019 Workstar 7400 trucks. The caliper may contact a suspension spring or axle U-bolt and prevent the outer brake pad from functioning.

Risk: A loss of outer brake pad function can extend the vehicle's stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash.

105276 vehicles affected

24V818000

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE

International Motors, LLC (International) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Lonestar, 2021-2025 RH, HV, MV, LT, HX, and 2022 PROSTAR vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.

Risk: Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may have diminished or lost functionality, increasing the risk of a crash.

STEERING

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2024 International HX, LT, RH and 2024-2025 International HV, MV trucks and 2024 IC Bus CE commercial buses. The steering gear assemblies may have been assembled incorrectly with fewer recirculating balls than are required, which may result in a loss of steering control.

Risk: A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.

2024 INTERNATIONAL HV

297 vehicles affected

24V026000

SEAT BELTS:CRITICAL FASTENERS

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2024 International HV and International MV trucks. The driver's seat belt tether bolt may not be properly seated in the anchor, causing a bind at the anchor point.

Risk: An improperly anchored seat belt tether may not restrain an occupant as intended, increasing their risk of injury during a crash.

2024 INTERNATIONAL HV

27972 vehicles affected

23V120000

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM):SOFTWARE

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2022-2024 International HV, International MV trucks, and 2022-2023 IC Bus TC commercial buses. When the parking brake is applied, the automatic transmission is still in drive or reverse position, and the stationary power take-off (PTO) switch is engaged by the operator, the engine may rev and overcome the parking brake's ability to keep the vehicle from moving.

Risk: Unexpected vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

2024 INTERNATIONAL HV

59684 vehicles affected

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:ABS WARNING LIGHT

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2021-2024 International HV, HX, LoneStar, LT, MV, eMV, and RH trucks, and IC Bus CE, 2021-2023 IC Bus RE, and 2022-2023 IC Bus TC Commercial Buses. The anti-lock brake system (ABS) indicator light does not remain illuminated when a malfunction exists, and when the vehicle's ignition switch is on, and the vehicle is in motion. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

Risk: An ABS indicator light that fails to remain illuminated will not alert the driver of an ABS malfunction, which could increase the risk of a crash.
