Recalls
  • Electrical and software issues. Recall 24V818000 affects 105,276 vehicles equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced ECUs. Electrical noise may cause the ECU to misprocess commands affecting Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation, increasing crash risk. The fix involves reprogramming ECU software at no cost.
  • Body Control Module software error. Recall 23V119000 involves 4,199 vehicles where a BCM software defect may allow the vehicle to override the parking brake during PTO operation. This increases the risk of unintended vehicle movement and crashes. Dealers will update the BCM software for free.
  • ABS warning light malfunction. Recall 23V370000 covers 59,684 vehicles where the ABS indicator light fails to stay illuminated during malfunctions while driving. This may prevent drivers from being alerted to ABS failures, raising crash risk. Dealers will update the software at no charge.
  • Fuel rail leak risk. Recall 21V366000 affects 1,780 vehicles with potential fuel rail seal washer seating issues that may cause fuel leaks. This defect increases the risk of fire. Inspections and necessary rail replacements will be done free of charge.
  • Air brake check valve defect. Recall 21V227000 involves 845 vehicles with improperly seated retainers in SC-3 single check valves causing potential unintended spring brake application, raising crash risk. Dealers will replace the check valves at no cost.
  • Fuel heater fire hazard. Recall 20V219000 includes 27,421 vehicles where the electric fuel heater may overheat, melt plastic parts, and cause fire or engine stall. The fuel heater will be disabled or removed and electrical power cut off free of charge.
  • Reflective tape omission. Recall 20V584000 affects 14 vehicles lacking reflective tape on the cab’s upper contours, reducing visibility at night without a trailer. Dealers will install reflective tape free of charge.
  • Engine movement risk. Recall 20V810000 covers 17,213 vehicles where engine revving with parking brake applied and PTO engaged may cause unexpected vehicle movement. Dealers will update ECM parameters to enable PTO neutral interlock free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, safety defects, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting with a qualified attorney can help determine available legal options.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE

International Motors, LLC (International) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Lonestar, 2021-2025 RH, HV, MV, LT, HX, and 2022 PROSTAR vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.

Risk: Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may have diminished or lost functionality, increasing the risk of a crash.

PARKING BRAKE

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2018-2021 International HV, 2019-2021 International RH, 2019-2022 International MV, and 2022 International HX vehicles. A software error in the Body Control Module (BCM) may allow the vehicle to overcome the park brake during power-take-off (PTO) operation.

Risk: A parking brake that does not hold can allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly and increase the risk of a crash or injury.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:ABS WARNING LIGHT

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2021-2024 International HV, HX, LoneStar, LT, MV, eMV, and RH trucks, and IC Bus CE, 2021-2023 IC Bus RE, and 2022-2023 IC Bus TC Commercial Buses. The anti-lock brake system (ABS) indicator light does not remain illuminated when a malfunction exists, and when the vehicle's ignition switch is on, and the vehicle is in motion. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

Risk: An ABS indicator light that fails to remain illuminated will not alert the driver of an ABS malfunction, which could increase the risk of a crash.

21V366000

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM:FUEL RAIL

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2018-2019 International WorkStar, International DuraStar, 2019-2021 International HV, International MV, and IC Bus RE Commercial Bus vehicles. The sealing washer may not seat correctly in the pilot bore holes, allowing the high pressure fuel rail assembly to leak.

Risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

2021 INTERNATIONAL HV

845 vehicles affected

21V227000

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2021 International LT, RH, MV, and HV vehicles equipped with Bendix pressure switches. A retainer was not properly seated in the SC-3 single check valve and may not provide source air isolation when pressure is applied. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

Risk: Unintended spring brake application may occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
