2019 INFINITI QX60 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2019 INFINITI QX60 has 7 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report engine problems related to sludge buildup and bearing damage despite regular maintenance. Other common issues include failures in drivetrain components and safety system warnings.

Common Issues

  • Engine sludge and damage. Several owners report sludge accumulation in the engine and bearing shavings occurring with normal oil changes and regular maintenance, leading to engine noise and fear of driving.
  • Alternator failure. One owner experienced a sudden engine seizure followed by an inability to start the vehicle, which was diagnosed as alternator failure requiring replacement.
  • Drivetrain seal failures. Early failure of seals and bearings in the rear differential and transfer case has been reported, sometimes shortly after the manufacturer warranty period expired.
  • Oil leaks and noises. Whining noises and oil leaks linked to improper assembly of the right side drive shaft seal were noted, raising concerns about possible transmission failure.
  • Acceleration and braking issues. A complaint described situations where the vehicle failed to accelerate or stop as intended, including the engine seizing without warning lights illuminating.
  • Airbag warning light. One owner reported a persistent airbag warning light indicating the need for airbag replacement.

Two recalls affect the 2019 INFINITI QX60 involving backup camera and braking system components. These address rear visibility and potential brake fluid leaks that present safety risks.

Recalls

  • Backup camera system. (NHTSA Recall 19V654000) Affects 1,228,830 vehicles including the 2019 QX60. The back-up camera settings can be adjusted so the rear view image disappears and remains off, failing Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The risk includes reduced rear visibility increasing crash potential. Dealers will update the camera settings software at no charge.
  • Anti-lock brake system. (NHTSA Recall 19V807000) Covers 391,479 vehicles including certain 2017-2019 QX60 models. Brake fluid leak on the ABS actuator, caused by a defective pump, may cause electrical shorts and increase fire risk. The recall advises parking outdoors if the ABS warning light stays on for over 10 seconds after startup. Dealers will replace the ABS actuator free of charge once parts become available.

Owners dealing with repeated engine or drivetrain failures, persistent airbag warnings, or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney can provide guidance on potential next steps.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Nissan Murano, 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima, and 2017-2019 Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and unrepaired, or inspected and determined to not need a repair, under recall number 18V-601. In addition, this recall expands the previous population. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) actuator pumps may allow brake fluid to leak onto an internal circuit board.

Risk: A brake fluid leak on the circuit board may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.

ENGINE

My car started making a whining noise and leaking oil simultaneously. After taking it to be looked at, there is a broken seal due in improper assembly on the right side drive shaft. If it remains broken, not fixed, I risk a transmission failure. Multiple "Technical Serve Bulletins" have been released by Infiniti since 2017 (my car is a 2019 and was purchased certified pre-owned), but they will not issue a recall because this isn't considered a safety issue. Losing transmission function on the highway would create a huge safety concern.

ENGINE

There has been many problems with the QX60 engine with oil slug and Infinty does not want to repair this problem , even after showing regular oil changes. They want to charge up to $17000 to replace the engine

POWER TRAIN

The Rear right differential side seal failed under 40K miles and car was out of manufacturer warranty and I had to pay to get the seal and bearing replaced. I cannot believe a seal and bearing need to be rep[laced withing 40K miles. I had to replace a seal on the Transfer case last year when the car was still under manufacturer's warranty. My guess is that poor quality of the seals/bearings or improper installation procedures could have led to these early failures and surely warrants an investigation.
