2017 INFINITI QX60 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2017 INFINITI QX60 has 10 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report sudden electrical failures causing the vehicle to lose power, stall, or shut down various systems intermittently. There are also multiple reports of sunroof glass shattering spontaneously during normal driving. Other issues include timing chain failure, starter malfunction, and concerns about engine reliability.
Common Issues
- Sudden electrical shutdown. Dash lights, radio, and interior components cut off, sometimes causing the vehicle to stall or lose power steering, with intermittent recovery.
- PCM failure. Powertrain Control Module defects cause loss of power, disabling cruise control and proximity sensors, locking the steering wheel, and disrupting other electronic functions.
- Sunroof explosion. Spontaneous shattering of the sunroof glass at highway speeds without external impact or weather triggers, posing safety risks.
- Battery and alternator issues. Battery warning lights illuminate repeatedly despite recent replacements, leading to sudden engine shutdowns on the road.
- Timing chain failure. The timing chain breaks while under warranty, resulting in stranded vehicles and costly repairs.
- Starter failure. The starter stops working while driving, causing loss of vehicle operation.
- Transfer case defects. Problems with the transfer case cause the vehicle to lose drivability, sometimes requiring roadside repairs.
- Engine failure concerns. Complaints about engines dying suddenly without warning despite low mileage, resulting in recommendations for engine replacement.
Two recalls affect the 2017 INFINITI QX60, both related to the hydraulic service brakes system. These recalls address potential brake fluid leaks that may cause electrical shorts and fire risks.
Recalls
- ABS actuator pump defect (Recall 19V807). Affects 391,479 vehicles including 2017 QX60s. Brake fluid may leak onto the circuit board causing electrical shorts and fire risk. Owners will be notified to have the ABS actuator replaced free of charge. If the ABS warning light stays on more than 10 seconds after startup, owners should park the vehicle outside away from structures and avoid driving it.
- ABS actuator pump defect (Recall 18V601). Affects 215,124 vehicles including 2017 QX60s. Brake fluid leaks on internal circuit boards may cause shorts and fire hazards. The recall involves inspecting and possibly replacing the ABS actuator at no cost. Owners should park outdoors and avoid driving if the ABS warning lamp remains illuminated beyond 10 seconds after engine start.
Owners dealing with frequent electrical failures, sudden stalling, sunroof glass explosions, or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney familiar with these issues can help clarify those rights and options.

The car died suddenly while driving. The battery is only a few months old. Prior to dying a few warning lamps suddenly came on but there was no prior warning. The engine did not overheat, there was no smoke, or check engine light until the car suddenly died. I have been advised that I need a new engine. I have been researching and it appears many others have similar issues with their Infiniti engines. Its [XXX] Please look into this. It’s odd to me that so many folks engines have died at what is actually low mileage. It’s also pretty frustrating and depressing, the repairs can go up to the cost of a new vehicle, when this appears to be a design flaw. I’m starting to meet way to many folks whose Infiniti or Nissan suddenly needs a new trans or engine as soon as the warranty ends. Timing chain completely went when I had been complaining of a noise while it was under warranty. I was stranded on the side of the road. The starter completely went while driving. Now, I am told the transfer case is bad and I had to pull on side of road to a repair shop.

A mechanic says it is PCM failure. I have owned the car for 18 months. Shortly after buying it, it started doing this thing where it loses power for just a second or two. Cruise control and proximity sensors kick off, steering wheel locks and/or power steering turns off, all interior components turn off. Usually everything comes right back on, and I can reset the cruise control. Lately it has been more frequent, and things don't go back to normal. It sometimes causes the vehicle to stall and not start as well. Today even once things are back "on", I can't control the AC fan, radio volume, etc. Bluetooth shows connected to the car on my phone but isn't playing through the vehicle speakers. I don't undersrand how this could not be a recall when it poses a major safety risk to suddenly lose power and be unable to steer the vehicle! This has been happening since Feb 2024, so I'll just put the original date. Sometimes it happens 15 times in a day and the vehicle is more or less not drivable. Other times I'll go a month or so with no glitches.

I am writing to bring to your attention a serious safety issue I experienced with my Infiniti QX60, which I believe warrants immediate investigation and action. On 3/15/25, during a family trip for spring break, I was driving my 2017 Infiniti QX60 at approximately 75 mph on the highway when the sunroof suddenly exploded without warning. The sound was akin to gunfire, and the shock of the incident left my family and me deeply shaken. The explosion occurred without any prior impact or debris hitting the vehicle, and there were no adverse weather conditions that could have contributed to the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the situation could have been far worse had the glass shattered inward or caused a loss of vehicle control. This incident caused significant inconvenience and financial burden. I was 350 miles from home and had to divert to the nearest town to assess the damage and determine how to proceed. Since the incident occurred on a Saturday, no repairs could be made until the following Monday, leaving my family stranded and forcing us to incur additional expenses for lodging, meals, and alternate transportation to reach our destination, which was still 150 miles away. Upon researching this issue, I discovered numerous reports from other Infiniti QX60 owners who have experienced similar spontaneous sunroof explosions. Despite the apparent frequency of these incidents, there has been no indication of a recall or any corrective action from the manufacturer. This is deeply concerning, as it poses a significant safety risk to drivers, passengers, and others on the road. I urge the NHTS to investigate this matter thoroughly and consider mandating a recall or other corrective measures to address this defect in Infiniti QX60 vehicles. Additionally, I hope that steps can be taken to ensure that current and future owners are protected from this potentially dangerous issue. Please let me know if there is any additional information needed.

About a year ago, I was driving about 80 mph and the dash lights and radio just died, then within seconds everything came back on. It only happened that one time. The other day, I was on a busy highway headed home when my battery light came on. I just replaced both the alternator and battery less than a year ago. I started inching over to the left land (just in case) when the car just died and I had to coast to a stop in the middle of the highway WITH MY 3 KIDS!!! The police came and I was able to start the car and pull it on the shoulder, then a tow truck came and dropped it off at Infiniti. They had my car for 2 days and couldn't find anything and they told me to come and pick it up. Within 30 minutes of me picking it up, it did the same thing so I took it right back to Infiniti and dropped it off. Today, they called me and it was finally doing what I said it was doing. Battery light, electrical cuts off and car just dies.
