2008 INFINITI QX56 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2008 INFINITI QX56 has 2 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with sudden stalling and inaccurate fuel gauge readings. Brake lights activating unexpectedly with brake failure have also been reported.

Common Issues

  • Sudden stalling. The vehicle stalls unexpectedly while driving without prior warnings.
  • Fuel gauge inaccuracy. The fuel gauge may indicate fuel remains when the tank is empty, leading to potential fuel starvation without a warning light.
  • Brake failure warnings. Brake warning lights illuminate at speeds under 50 mph followed by loss of braking, requiring the vehicle to be turned off and restarted to restore functionality.

Four recalls affect the 2008 INFINITI QX56, addressing critical systems including brakes, fuel gauge, airbags, and suspension components. These recalls cover safety-related defects requiring inspection and replacement of defective parts.

Recalls

  • Brake pedal assembly. (NHTSA Recall 10V072000) About 179,383 vehicles are affected. The brake pedal pivot pin was not spin-formed to specification, causing the pedal to partially disengage and reducing braking force. This increases crash risk. Dealers inspect and replace the brake pedal assembly if needed at no charge.
  • Side curtain airbags. (NHTSA Recall 10V349000) 21 vehicles are affected. An out-of-spec A-pillar finisher may impede correct inflation of side curtain airbags, elevating injury risk during crashes. Dealers replace both front pillar finishers free of charge.
  • Fuel gauge system. (NHTSA Recall 10V074000) Approximately 340,000 vehicles are affected. The instrument panel fuel gauge may inaccurately show fuel remaining when the tank is empty, which can cause stalling on highways. Dealers replace the fuel sender unit inside the fuel tank at no cost.
  • Lower control arm welds. (NHTSA Recall 10E019000) 1,873 vehicles are affected. Some collars in the front and rear lower control link assemblies contain welds that don’t meet strength specifications, risking separation that reduces handling and may cause a crash. Dealers will replace any affected lower links for free.

Owners dealing with repeated brake or fuel system failures or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting an attorney specializing in consumer protection and lemon law could help clarify possible remedies.

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

NISSAN IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2008 NISSAN ARMADA AND INFINITI QX56 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM FEBRUARY 7, 2007 THROUGH FEBRUARY 14, 2007. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 201, "PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACT." AN OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION A-PILLAR FINISHER MIGHT IMPEDE THE CORRECT INFLATION OF THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG NEAR THE UPPER PORTION OF THE B-PILLAR.

Risk: INCORRECT INFLATION OF THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO A VEHICLE OCCUPANT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH REQUIRING DEPLOYMENT OF THAT AIR BAG.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:PEDALS AND LINKAGES

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56, AND MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 NISSAN QUEST VEHICLES. THE BRAKE PEDAL PIVOT PIN END WAS NOT SPIN-FORMED TO SPECIFICATION DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. THE PIVOT PIN COULD SLIDE AND CAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PARTIALLY DISENGAGE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL BRACKET.

Risk: THE DRIVER WILL EXPERIENCE UNUSUAL AND NOTICEABLE LOOSENESS IN THE PEDAL AND A REDUCTION IN BRAKING FORCE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN FRONT AND REAR LOWER LINKS, P/NOS. 54501ZQ00A, 54500ZQ00A, 551A1ZQ00A, 551A0ZQ00A , 54501EA00A, 54500EA00A, 551A1EA500, 551A0EA500, 54501ZR00A, AND 54500ZR00A, SOLD BETWEEN NOVEMBER 25, 2009 AND MAY 14, 2010 AS REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR MODEL YEAR 2004 THROUGH 2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND QX56, AND MODEL YEARS 2005 THROUGH 2010 FRONTIER, XTERRA, AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS.

Risk: IF THE COLLAR WELD SEPARATES, THE VEHICLE HANDLING WILL DETERIORATE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
