Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017 Infiniti QX30 vehicles. The steering shaft bore hole for the universal joint bearing may allow excessive movement that, over time, could result in the separation of the bearing and universal joint.

Risk: A separated universal joint bearing can cause a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.

Risk: If the air bag fails to deploy in the event of a crash, it can increase the risk of injury.

STEERING

The driver’s side heater does not function correctly. When heat is turned on, the passenger side warms but the driver’s side only blows cold air. This prevents the windshield on the driver’s side from properly defrosting/defogging in cold or wet conditions, which creates a serious visibility hazard. Additionally, none of the steering wheel controls function due to a diagnosed clock spring failure. This failure also affects the horn and may impact the driver’s airbag connection. A non-functioning horn prevents warning other drivers/pedestrians, and loss of airbag function creates a major crash safety risk. The vehicle was inspected at an Infiniti dealership, and the problems were confirmed. The issues appeared shortly after purchase and have been consistent since.
