2014 INFINITI Q50 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2014 INFINITI Q50 has 11 complaints and 14 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with steering, air bag warning lights, engine and transmission problems, and door malfunctions. Several complaints note safety concerns related to the steering system, airbag sensors, and structural components affected by rust.
Common Issues- Steering lockup. The steering wheel locks up when turning, sometimes flipping upside down. Drivers must turn the vehicle off and on to correct the steering, creating a dangerous driving condition.
- Air bag sensor warning. The passenger side air bag off warning light stays illuminated despite occupancy, linked to abnormal voltage in the sensor and potential recall defects.
- Rusted crossmembers. Front and middle crossmembers rust out severely, compromising structural integrity and affecting suspension and drivetrain security.
- Leaking oil pans. Engine and transmission oil pans leak, increasing the risk of mechanical failure.
- Rear door failure. Both rear doors fail to open from inside or outside.
- Transmission issues. The vehicle refuses to shift past third gear and sputters, limiting speed and disrupting driving.
- No key detection. The vehicle intermittently displays "No Key Detected," sometimes failing to shut off the engine after shifting into park.
- Water intrusion. A sunroof leak allows water into the firewall and body control module, causing electrical failures and intermittent vehicle jerking.
- Odometer discrepancy. One complaint alleges odometer fraud with a misrepresented title status.
The 2014 INFINITI Q50 has 14 recalls addressing issues in steering systems, occupant classification, airbag deployment, driveline components, and electrical software. The recalls cover various vehicle systems that can impact safety and drivability.
Recalls- Direct Adaptive Steering software. (NHTSA 16V430000) Affects 28,182 vehicles. The steering system may err at startup, altering responsiveness and turning radius, increasing crash risk. Dealers reprogram software at no charge.
- Occupant Classification System (OCS) software. (NHTSA 16V244000) Affects over 3.2 million vehicles including 2014 Q50. The system may misclassify the passenger seat causing the airbag to deactivate incorrectly, raising injury risk. Vehicles receive a software update or ECU replacement for free.
- Power steering disablement in freezing conditions. (NHTSA 13V588000) Affects 23 vehicles. Power steering software may disable the electric system in cold weather, delaying backup system engagement and increasing crash risk. Owners instructed not to drive until repaired with a software fix.
- Driveshaft fatigue and breakage. (NHTSA 24V470000) Affects 7,222 vehicles including 2014 Q50. The driveshaft can fail causing loss of drive power or rollaway risk. Dealers replace the driveshaft at no cost.
- Passenger airbag deactivation risk. (NHTSA 14V138000) Covers 989,701 vehicles including the 2014 Q50. The OCS software may incorrectly disable the passenger airbag, increasing injury risk during a crash. Dealers update the software free of charge.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs related to steering system malfunctions, airbag sensor defects, rusted structural components, or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting legal resources or professionals can help clarify next steps.

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
Risk: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the message "No Key Detected" was displayed. The contact waved the key fob around the START/STOP button, and the message ceased. The contact stated that the light around the START/STOP button was orange, but was green before the failure. One day, while driving the vehicle, the engine failed to shut off after shifting into park(P) and pressing the START/STOP button. The contact made several attempts to turn off the vehicle. The message to "Visit the Dealer" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics before finding a mechanic who was able to turn off the vehicle by removing the starter fuse. The mechanic advised the contact to tow the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer performed a water test and discovered that there was a leak in the sunroof, which had caused the failure. The mechanic discovered that water had leaked through the firewall in the body control module (BCM), causing the failure. The contact was provided with an estimate, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that after the repair, while the vehicle was idling, the vehicle intermittently jerked. There was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Front and middle crossmember rusted out to the point they have no more structural effects issues discovered while fixing a know issue to these models : rusted out and leaking engine and transmission oils pans I had confirmation from the dealership and other independent repair shop that leaking oils pans are common for those models and can cause engine and transmission failure. For the crossmembers they are important structural components that directly affect suspension/direction and drivetrain secureness. If the plastic shrouds/cover are not taken off during inspection those issues will goes undetected until one of them reaches failure
