EQUIPMENT

Idle Free Systems, Inc. (IFS) is recalling certain auxiliary power units (APU), model MT-HR-H-06, manufactured from February 2010 through December 2011 and installed as aftermarket equipment on heavy trucks. The APU captures excess energy produced by the truck's alternator. This energy is converted to electricity which can be used to power A/C and heat systems in the truck's cab.

Risk: The battery separator contained in the APU could experience an internal circuit board capacitor failure, which could result in a fire.

EQUIPMENT

IDLE FREE IS RECALLING CERTAIN AUXILIARY POWER UNITS (APUS) SOLD FROM OCTOBER 2009 TO MAY 2011, AND INSTALLED AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT ON HEAVY TRUCKS. THE WELDS ON THE METAL HOUSING OF THE FRAME RAIL SYSTEM MAY CRACK AND TEAR.

Risk: IF LEFT UNCHECKED, THE WELDS MAY COMPLETELY FAIL, ALLOWING THE APU TO FALL FROM THE FRAME RAIL. IF THE UNIT FAILS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED, THE UNIT COULD STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE OR A PEDESTRIAN INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH OR INJURY.
